Chapter 66 CHAPTER 66
Chapter 66 CHAPTER 66
ΚΑΙ
I ran to Alina, my heart pounding against my chest as I reached her still body. Her skin was pale, her lips slightly parted, but there was no sign of life. Panic seized me as I crouched down beside her, shaking her gently at first, then harder.
"Alina," I called, my voice rough, almost unrecognizable from the fear tightening my throat. She didn't move, not even a flicker. My bones froze in place.
This couldn't be happening. Not now, not after everything.
I stood up, my chest heaving as I whipped around to face the witch hunter. The cold look on his face sent a fresh wave of fury crashing through me. This was his doing. I stalked toward him, my hands shaking with rage.
"Reverse it!" I demanded, my voice laced with venom. "Bring her back, NOW!"
The witch hunter smirked, a twisted sense of satisfaction clear in his eyes. "No," he hissed, standing his ground.
My Lycan instincts roared to life. I could feel my fangs elongate, the beast within me clawing to the surface. Without another word, I lunged at him, grabbing him by the throat and slamming him into the nearest wall. His head made a sickening crack as it hit the stone. But that wasn't enough. My claws dug into his flesh, tearing at his hand until I ripped off one of his fingers.
He screamed, the defiance in his eyes quickly replaced with fear. I didn't feel even a bit of remorse. I have killed a lot of people in the past few days, I would not mind adding more to the list.
"I'll take every limb you have," I growled, my voice deep, almost unrecognizable, as I held his bleeding hand in my grip. "You will have nothing left but your screams unless you reverse what you've done to her. Now."
The witch hunter's face twisted in agony, his body trembling under my hold. He was trying to be brave, but the pain was too much for him to bear. His good hand shook as he raised it, muttering a string of words under his breath. I didn't take my eyes off him for a second, not trusting him for a moment, but all I cared about was Alina.
I whipped around when I heard the faintest sound-the shallow rise and fall of her chest.
She was breathing.
"Alina," I breathed out, rushing back to her side. I knelt beside her, my hands hovering over her as if I was afraid to touch her, afraid she might slip away again. But her breathing was steady, and her skin had regained some of its color. She was alive.
My knees almost buckled in relief, but I held it together. I still had work to do. Standing, I turned to the guards who had gathered
around, their faces pale with fear.
"Take him to the dungeon," I ordered, nodding toward the witch hunter, who was still whimpering in pain on the ground. The guards didn't hesitate. They moved quickly, dragging him away. I made a mental note to deal with him later. Slowly, I turned back to Alina, my heart still racing.
"Take her to her room," I said softly to one of the female servants who had rushed over. "Make sure she rests. She's still weak."
As much as I wanted to spend time with her and make sure she was alright, I needed to do this. I needed to make sure that I gave established my own place in the pack before I went to meet her. If I didn't do this, the last few weeks might as well be a joke because I wouldn't get the throne.
The servant nodded, gently helping Alina to her feet. I watched as they slowly led her away, my chest aching with a mixture of relief and guilt. I had come so close to losing her. I had failed her once, and I couldn't afford to fail her again.
Once she was out of sight, I stood up straight, my eyes scanning the room. The elders, lords, and council members who had once supported Jaime now stood in stunned silence. The body of Jaime, the crown still perched on his lifeless head, lay at my feet.
"I am your Alpha now. I killed him so I am going to take the throne for myself," I announced, my voice cold and authoritative. I bent down, grabbing the crown from Jaime's head and raising it high for everyone to see. "Coronate me. Now."
Elder Gideon, the oldest of the council, stepped forward, his face pale with fear. "Alpha Kai..." he stammered. "We... we need time to prepare. There are traditions to follow..."
I narrowed my eyes at him, stepping forward until we were mere inches apart. "If you don't do it now, I will kill all of you the same way I did to this man and then replace each one of you with new lords and elders. Do you understand me?"
Gideon gulped, his hands trembling as he glanced at the other elders. None of them dared to meet my gaze. "Very well," he muttered, defeated.
The elders scrambled to prepare the ceremonial items, their hands shaking as they laid them out. The Oath Staff, an ancient relic of our pack, was placed in Elder Gideon's hands. He approached me
cautiously, his voice barely above a whisper as he began the coronation rites.
"By the will of the Moon Goddess and the strength of our ancestors," he said, his voice wavering, "we bestow upon you, Kai of the Seven Isles, the title of Alpha. May your reign be long and prosperous. May your strength guide our pack. May your wisdom protect us all."
He lifted the Oath Staff, and I knelt before him, bowing my head as tradition dictated. The weight of the crown in my hands was heavy, but not as heavy as the responsibility I was about to shoulder. This was what I had fought for. This was what I had bled for. And now it was mine.
I could not believe it. I have dreamt of having this on me for so long that it almost felt like I wouldn't get it for some period of time, but now I have it. I have become alpha, just like I have wanted to since I was a child. I fought and killed for it, and somehow it made me feel better because I was the one that fought for it.
It wasn't just handed to me by my father. I fought my wait up and deserved it.
Elder Gideon placed the Oath Staff in my hands, the energy of the pack surging through me as the transfer of power was complete.
"You are now Alpha of the Seven Isles," Gideon announced, his voice a little stronger now. "May you rule with honor."
I stood, the Oath Staff gripped tightly in my hand, the crown resting on my head. I looked out at the crowd, at the faces that had once doubted me. The room was filled with a tense silence, but as I held their gazes, one by one, they bowed their heads.
"I am your Alpha," I repeated, my voice echoing through the chamber. "Under my rule, this pack will rise to greatness."
The crowd bowed lower, submitting to my authority. Satisfaction coursed through my veins, but it wasn't enough. I had what I wanted, but something was still missing. Alina wasn't by my side. And without her, this victory felt hollow.
Without another word, I turned and strode out of the room. The crown on my head felt heavy, but I didn't care. I needed to see her. I needed to make sure she was alright. After everything we had been through, she was all that mattered now.
As I made my way through the halls of the palace, I thought about the journey that had led me here. The battles, the betrayals, the losses... and Alina. Everything I had done had been for this moment. For her.
I reached her room, my heart pounding again, but this time for a different reason. I knocked softly, then entered, finding her lying in bed, her eyes closed, but her breathing steady. Relief washed over me once again.
I approached her quietly, sitting on the edge of the bed. She looked peaceful now, as if the weight of the world had finally been lifted off her shoulders. I gently took her hand in mine, brushing my thumb over her knuckles.
"I did it," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "I'm Alpha now."
She didn't respond, still deep in sleep, but just holding her hand was enough for now. I had her back, and I wasn't going to let anyone take her away from me again.
Finally, I had everything I needed and I knew I would fight to the ends of the world to keep it.
