Regrets

FIFTY-EIGHT

LYNETTE

What the hell was he saying?

Mr Russo’s words sunk deeper into my ears chilling me till I wasn’t so sure I would be able to breath. There was so many things that I needed to say, but I couldn’t even speak. The fact that all these was happening was making me is confused. What do I do now? How could this be the truth? Maybe, there was some sort of mistake?

I turned towards Leone, not even trying to be subtle with my gaze. But, what I saw was enough to make me feel sick to my bone. He stood motionless, unable to say a word. I was completely scared about what I would be able to say right now. I wished that thugs would have been better, and maybe, there would be hope that this was a lie.

“So, I think we are all thrilled by this news. It’s always important to straighten the business through this ties of marriage. I trust that my son wouldn’t think of rejecting my offer, and he would increase the posterity of the family business as it ought to be,” he said firmly.

I took a sharp intake of breath. This was not how I had envisioned that things would be, and I was at a loss on how to actually make the most of the situation. Nothing was working as it should be, and if this continued, I would be in a quagmire. Unable to stop myself, I looked right at Leone, he still seemed to be shellshocked, and that made me feel so many things at once.

“We should be merry,” Mr Russo was saying.

I closed my eyes tightly, trying to shut him out, but he kept buzzing incessantly like a parasite. I couldn’t stay here one bit. I snapped my eyes open, and placed a hand over my mouth, coughing wildly.

Isabella looked at me in shock, but of course, I didn’t care about all that right now. I wanted to leave this place as fast as possible. It bothered me to be here, and before I did something that I would regret, it was best to leave.

“Are you all right, Lynette?” Mother asked.

I held a hand up. “Please, I think I should call it a night,” I said with a fake cough at the end of it.

“Of course,” mother said calmly.

I lowered my hand down slightly, and turned toward Leone. He wasn’t even looking at me. I turned back to the staircase, after saying my goodnight, and pretending that I was still coughing. At the top of the stairs, I ran as fast as I could, dropping down the act. My room door seems to be farther than it usually was, but still I tried to move forward. It was the only way I could breath.

Inside the safety of my room, I sank down on the ground, and let tears rock me senseless. This was the worst moment of my life, and I wish I could wind back the hands of time, and forget everything that had happened to me, but I could not.

“Gosh! I’m such a fool! How did I ever think that there was a chance for our relationship to work? What was I thinking?” I snapped at myself.

I hit the back of my head repeatedly on the bed post, hoping to forget the whole thing. I felt like my life was going on a standstill, and there was nothing I was able to do save it. The fact Leone stood there, despite all he had heard, made my stomach turn painfully.

There was definitely no hope for me, and I have ruined our chance of brotherhood. We couldn’t be that. I slept with him. He de-flowered me, and now, I would never have it back. It was going to be done for the rest of my life.

Oh, no!

I couldn’t take this pain. Tears spilled even more and I clutched my dress as I wailed. It felt like someone went in, and tore my heart into shreds. I was so lost because this was not how it ought to have been. Was there even hope for me at this point?

There was no answer to that question, all I knew was that all the dreams I had deluded myself to build had come crashing down without a signal.

LEONE

The only thing I knew how to do was stare. I was numb. It was as though someone threw me from a two-story building, and worse I was not comprehending those words anymore. All I could hear in my brain was the fact I had been made to marry someone I didn’t love. I didn’t want to be with another woman, other than Lynn, and I believed that my father wasn’t going to ruin my life. I wouldn’t let that happen, even if it were the last thing that I would do. I was going to fight for myself, and my future.

I could feel Isabella’s hands on mine, but I didn’t even look at her. I wanted her gone. I wanted to be left alone. I wanted to scream, and most importantly, I wanted to kill the man that I had called a father.

He had taken my mother away from me, and driven her to a point of insanity, yet he wanted to make things worse than it already was? My hands clenched at the sides in rage. I couldn’t really believe the statements.

It wasn’t making sense. Did he not have enough of tormenting his family? What else did he want now? I honestly wished I could know. He was out to ruin my life, but I wouldn’t let him do that. I wouldn’t leave Lynn, no matter what it took.

“I believe that the girl is goodnatured, she would be a good wife to you,” Mrs Racquel mumbled.

I shifted my gaze towards her like I was a robot, and she looked at me with shock, colouring her expressions. I felt nothing, I hated her even. She wanted to have a beautiful life with my father, but she wished to ruin mine. If she wasn’t into money, she would have cared at least for my feelings, but she didn’t care. She took my mother’s place, and she made it look like it was nothing. How could I forgive a woman who did that to me?

“Isabella, let’s go,” she said calmly.

I watched as she took my sister’s hands and made her way out. I was mentally screaming about all of these. I had no idea what to do, and the worst was that it all felt like a giant dream. It was so painful, and I didn’t know what to lessen the pain in my heart. Lynette must be feeling horrible too.

A hand softly touched my arm, and I jumped literally to the feel of it. I turned to see father looking at me with an unreadable expression.

“You need to listen to what I’m saying, son,” he said tersely. I looked at him calmly, but avoided saying anything. “The beauty I selected is one I can trust, and you both already have a budding friendship. I saw you through out the night. It is nice that we don’t need to start from scratch. You both were all over each other, so I believe that is the beginning of a good romance,” he said softly, tapping me at the back of my shoulder.

I took a shaky breath and stepped away from him. I hated when he touched me or did anything for me. I didn’t want to have anything to do with this man. He made me upset, and I was beyond angry at all that was going on. I wished that things had been different.

“Why are you not saying anything? Do you want to know her minute details? I would gladly give them to you. It’s in my top drawer in this house,” he said easily.

Next, he launched into another discus that annoyed me so much. I tried to block him out, but my rage was building. He moved from left to right, saying crap I couldn’t care less about. I hated all of these, and I wanted him to stop talking, but I was still numb.

“Ok,” he said suddenly as he turned to me. “Do you think it would be nice to be able to go on a date with her tomorrow? It would make you come closer even more, and I can’t wait for that to happen,” he beamed annoyingly.

“I’m afraid that nothing like that would be happening,” I said coldly.

Father stopped in his tracks, and looked right at me. I could see the dismay in his eyes. He had no idea how I enraged I was, but he was shook enough.

“Leone, I don’t think you should say anything that you would regret,” he said tersely.

I stepped closer to him. “I actually regret I had not said anything at all.”
