I wouldn't dream of it!

FOURTY-SIX

LEONE

I pushed the box out till we the bellboy came over to take it downstairs. Lynn was trying to tie a scarf around her neck which was sweet. I knew it was her attempt to hide the hickey. Oh, last night was wild. It had been a celebration for me. I had gotten my mom back, and believed that the best way to celebrate at the dead of the night, was to have wild sex.

Jeez!

Lynn was a different soul in bed. She was shy as fuck, but bold as anything else. I had no idea if that made sense, but the woman made me feel things that I never imagined that I would feel. She was just amazing.

“If you keep looking at me like that, we wouldn’t be able to leave this place,” she pointed out smartly.

I chuckled. “I wish we didn’t need to go.”

She shook her head at me as he held onto her purse. Her gait as she moved to me was soft, and languid, and it made me want to stripe her bare, and have mad sex with her. Though, I had to control myself now.

“Stop teasing me, ok? We’ve finally gotten what we wanted, so it’s best to head home now,” she said calmly.

I sighed. “You’re right.”

I opened the door for her, and she stepped out, while I followed closely behind. At the reception, I paid the receptionist and then ordered a cab. The next thing was to see my mom before we went home. I can’t imagine how she must be feeling now, and I honestly hoped I made the right decision, leaving her back at the hospital.

“You can stay in the car with the driver. I would go and check up on mom, and then, we can go,” I said calmly.

Lynn frowned as she placed her hand on the hood of the car. “I don’t like the sound of that. I would come with you, Leone.”

I sighed. “I won’t do anything rash. I’m already excited that I have mom back, and I wouldn’t do anything to ruin it,” I assured her.

Lynn looked at me closely, and I know she didn’t want me to go alone, at the same time I hoped she saw reason. I needed to talk to mom alone. I needed to see if there was any hope that she would get her memory through me.

It was important to me.

Finally, she sighed and nodded. “I trust you, but if you need me, let me know,” she said softly.

I smiled at her. “You know I would always run to you.”

She chuckled at that.

I left Lynn by the car, and made my way to the hospital. The short journey was enough for me, and I was invigorated by the time I got to the site. I was ready to see mom, and wish her farewell. It wouldn’t be the last time I saw her, but I didn’t want to make my dad suspicious yet. I had to catch him at his own trick, and this was the only way I knew to do that.

A different lady was at the reception this time.

“Hello, what can I do for you?” The woman queried.

I placed my hand on the counter. “Hello, I’m here to see Ginevra Russo,” I said calmly.

She smiled kindly. “Do you have an appointment?”

I shook my head. “No, I don’t.”

Her smile dissolved. “I’m afraid that you can only see her if you have an appointment,” the lady pointed out.

I frowned slightly at that. “Miss, I was the one who found her yesterday, and the doctor knows me quite well. So, make me see her. I’m about to leave the vicinity, and I don’t know when I would be back,” I said firmly.

She flicked something on her pad. “Which of the doctors?”

I groaned inwardly. “Doctor Evans.”

She nodded. I watched as she picked the intercom, and then mumbled a couple of things to the doctor. It was evident that she thought I was bluffing. I was glad about the security and all, but they needed to update their staffs, on some of the things that happened on a daily to avoid embarrassing people.

She disconnected the call, and looked at me sheepishly. “I’m sorry, Mr…”

“Leone,” I supplied easily.

She nodded. “I’m sorry, Mr Leone, but it’s part of the hospital’s policy. You may go to the visitor’s lounge and wait for Mrs Russo. I would get her to you in fifteen minutes. Also, the doctor would like to see you,” she added.

I nodded as I walked over to the visitor’s lounge, using the direction she gave. The room was empty, save for a table and two chairs. There was also a glass that separated the patient from the visitor. It would have been weird if there was no glass because the patients were mentally unstable. So, this served so well, too.

The room was painfully small too, and was white like the rest of the hospital.

Mother arrived at exactly 15 minutes in white and yellow uniforms. She was counting something from the wall, and I noted how serous she was. It was somehow important to her that she got the numbers right.

My heart constricted painfully at the sight. Would she ever be ok? Damn! I had to stop thinking of the worst. She would be fine, with love and care. I had to show her that I was rooting for her health and happiness.

Her eyes fell on mine, and then the nurse helped her seat. She looked at me like she had never seen me before.

“Who are you, lad?” She asked in a loud voice.

I smiled softly , my hand moving to the glass. I’m your son. “I’m like a son to you,” I said instead.

She frowned. “I only have a daughter and I’m looking for her. She is 5 years old. Dod you see her somewhere?” She asked curiously.

I looked away from her, trying to control my emotions. Damn! I should have agreed with Lynn when she requested to come with me. This was too much. She would have known what to say, and how to say, making it easy for me to breathe.

Taking a deep breath, I turned to mom, and smiled softly. “You would find her soon. Don’t worry,” I said softly.

That seemed to appease her as she went back to chewing at her fingers. I watched her closely, and noted that she seemed older than she should be, and her hair had streaks of grey in them. Mother would have dyed them if she had been in her senses. She never wanted to grow old at all, and I think it was one of the things that made father love her.

But here she was, oblivious of the whole thing, and acting without a single care go the world. She made me worried, I wasn’t scared to admit it.

“I want to dance,” she said suddenly.

“Mom?” I couldn’t stop myself.

She looked at me a bit confused. “Get well. I want you to get well soon.I love you so much, and I would do my part as your son. Be rest assured that you’re not alone one bit.”

She smiled at me. “You want to dance, right?”

I couldn’t stop myself as I ran out and leaned on the wall closest to me. I choked back a sob. No! I had to be strong. Mom wouldn’t want me to fall apart now. She had always said we should leave like it was our last as we shouldered the challenges that came our way.

I was going to do that now. I would make sure that she understands how much I love her, and I would never hurt her at any point in time, and I was going to make sure that I make father dance in shame by the time I was done with him.

How could someone hate his wife so much, that he cheated his son from being by her side? It didn’t make sense one bit, but there would be changes now. I had Lynn at my side, and I would be able to handle things from now on.

I pushed myself from the wall, and walked back to the reception. Doctor Evans was waiting for me, with a thick folder strung under his arm. He still hadn’t divulged who brought mother in, and I was sick of asking because he would definitely ignore me.

“Ah, Mr Russo,” he said with a smile. “I’m glad you haven’t gone yet.”

I noted that he looked more friendly now that one of his patients was back. I gave a slight nod.

“I would like to have your number and that of the staffs to be informed of what goes on with my mom’s treatment,” I said calmly.

He nodded solemnly, and tucked a business card which he brought from the pocket of his white coat into my hands. “There it is. And, you have to be grateful that Ginevra is safe now.We would do all we can to make her comfortable and normal again. You’re a young man, try not to let these issues cheat you from living your life,” he said softly.

I smiled then as I took the card from him. “I wouldn’t dream of it, doctor.”
