She's alive!!!
FOURTY-FOUR
LEONE
I couldn’t take my eyes off mom all through the journey to the hospital. She kept talking about her daughter, Munchie, and how adorable she was. A some point, she made a move to get out of the vehicle, but I held her back. She laughed like it was the funniest thing ever.
“Will she be fine?” I asked absently.
I felt Lynn’s hand on my back. “Yes, we have to take her back to the hospital,” she said softly.
I frowned as I turned to her. “I don’t think that is a good idea. I mean, mom is here now, so what is the use of getting her to that awful place? She needs the peace she can get, and…”
I stopped when Lynn gave me a look. “What?”
She sighed. “I know you’re pretty excited about your mother’s return, but you need to thinks through. We can’t just take her home with us. Look at her,” she said softly. I did as she said. Mother was bitting her fingernails, claiming that was how she would take care of her daughter when she found her. “Do you see that? She needs treatment, and taking her away from it wouldn’t do her any good.”
I gulped.
The truth of those words made my head spin. Lynn was right. I needed to take mom back to the hospital. I don’t know who was funding it, but it would probably be my dad, and she would be safe there. I don’t know how I felt about returning her back after searching for her like crazy, but, maybe it was the right thing to do?
“She needs a healthy treatment, Leone. That’s what we can’t give her now. So, we need to rely on other persons to give her that. I hope you understand this?” Lynn mumbled softly.
I pulled mother close like it would help. She laughed, and tried to let go. Her mental health was becoming worse by the minute underlying Lynn’s fear. There was no-one who would help us in this situation without asking for a guardian. So, it was best to go back to the roots.
I informed the driver, then waited.
Within minutes, we were at the asylum. Thankfully, it wasn’t their closing hour yet, and we were allowed to go in. The moment we stepped in with mother in tow, the receptionist came over to meet us, and mother flinched behind me.
“No, please don’t leave me here. I don’t want to stay here. I want to look for my daughter,” she cried.
I touched her cheek. “Take me as your son,” I said softly.
She glared at me, and then moved back. The nurses on duty were fast as they blocked her escape, but unlike my memories, no-one gave her an injection.
“You betrayed me,” she said, looking at me in the eyes.
I sighed. “That is not true. I would bring your daughter to you, but you have to promise to be a good soul and let the doctors treat you. If you run again, how would I be able to bring your child to you? Think about it. The last time you fled, it was difficult to find you.”
She squinted her gaze at me, and I knew she was wondering if she could trust me or not. I wished she didn’t have to think on those terms, but it was what it was. It would take a while to win her trust, but at least, she was here now. She wouldn’t be leaving, and I could easily meet her when I wanted. There was a new hope that sprang in my heart.
“How do I trust you? I don’t see any child with you,” she said.
Lynn stepped forward. “You can trust us because we would never do anything to hurt you. I mean, from the market to this place, did we act strange?”
Mother chewed on her fingers as she thought about what Lynn said, and then, she shook her head furiously. “No!”
I watched as Lynn smiled, and I couldn’t help but smile too. I was right. There was hope that things would be better now, and I just needed to hang on that hope. It would be fine then. Everything would be ok, albeit there might be little delays.
“That’s good then,” Lynn was saying. “So, we would definitely bring your daughter back to you.”
Mother pushed herself forward and held Lynn’s hands fiercely. “You are munchie, right? I know she is you. You have light and sharp wit, but how could you be so tall? You were so tiny,” she rambled on.
The doctor came at that moment, and slowly pulled mother from Lynn. His smile was kind, but firm.
“Ei, Ginevra,” he said softly. “It’s not good to run out into the world on your own. You’ve been a very bad girl. Well, I would recommend you sleep or I would be forced to give you those awful injections you hate so much.”
Mother placed her free hand over her mouth in shock. “No, no, no! I don’t want that awful drug in my system. I wouldn’t be able to find my baby if that happened. Though, I believe this beauty is my daughter. She is just too shy to admit it. Take me to my room,” she said with an air of authority as she bounced through the white walls.
The whole thing was playing like one giant trick and I honestly couldn’t understand anything, even though I was trying so hard to do so. But, I was trying to be grateful. My mother was back, but I would definitely make sure she was whole. I didn’t know how now, but I would definitely think of something.
With that thought in mind, I turned to the doctor, who was looking quite pleased with the way things had turned out.
“Thank you for bringing her back,” he said calmly.
I shrugged. “We found her today, and I just thought it would be nice for her to gain treatments though I had no idea about what happened the last time. I’m willing to take the risk that you can take care of her.”
He smiled, making his face crinkle. “You’re wise.”
I said nothing to that, simply lost in thought. “I take it that you don’t want to tell me who is paying for her medications.” The man looked around awkwardly. He couldn’t really pretend that he couldn’t hear me this time. “That is ok for now. I would find out anyway, just like I found out that mother was still alive and holed into this hospital.”
He gulped slightly.
I took one look at the whole place, and didn’t want to go. Though, I knew I had to do that. There was no way to stay here overnight according to the rules of the hospital. Plus, it wouldn’t do well to ignite suspicions.
Calmly, l walked out of the ward with Lynn close behind. She had been such a strength through the whole ordeal, and the way she had taken care of me. I really didn’t understand how she could be so brave. It seemed unreal at first that she was so full of love and understanding.
Dusk was fast approaching. The cool breeze tussled my hair, making me smile. It was so long I smiled at things like this.
Then, it hit me so hard that my mom was back. Oh, I did know that, but now, it was like my subconscious was drilling it to me. It was like I had not realised it completely and now, it was sinking deep into my soul.
I ran a little bit, and jumped right in the air, fist pumping hard. “My mom is alive!” I fist pumped.
I turned to where Lynn was, and she was laughing while clapping. Oh! Damn! I ran as fast as I could to her and pulled her into my embrace, then rose her up a bit with both hands on her waist as I twirled her around. She placed a hand on my hair feeling so full of life.
Her breasts caressed my chest as I brought her down, and before long we were kissing. Her hands rested on my shoulders, and mine, on her waist as we kissed under the stars. This was a miracle, a Monet, and I couldn’t help but squeeze her asses, to show her how thrilled I was to have her in my life.
She bit my lower lip slightly, and then, she stopped, pulling back a bit to give me some sort of space. I wouldn’t allow that as I drew her closer to me. We both laughed in each other’s face.
“I’m so happy now,” she said softly.
I grinned. “I know. You’re my biggest cheerleader.”
She chuckled. “You got that right, Mr Russo.”
I pecked her on her eyelids, one at a time. “How do you put up with me?” I asked softly.
She smiled as she pecked my jaw. “It’s not that hard. You make it so easy, though I never want to see you so sad again. It breaks me into two.”
I smiled, squeezing her ass even more. “I won’t. Now, there is no reason to be sad again. We go up from here, baby.”
