Chapter 54
Chapter 54
Jonathan had that same carefree, devil–may–care look again.
Annabel curled her lips in a detached manner and said, “I’ll treat you to dinner next time.”
“Next time again?” Jonathan feigned a hurt expression. “You’ve been owing me ‘next times‘ for ages now.”
Annabel didn’t respond. Her gaze flicked to Jonathan’s leg. “Anything else you need?”
“Yeah.” Jonathan’s voice dropped to a low, magnetic tone. “I miss you so badly.” His voice was so captivating that it felt like a spell cast in the quiet of the night, designed to ensnare her heart.
Annabel fought to suppress the strange sensation creeping over her. She reached out and pushed against his chest. “Step back.”
But he didn’t budge. Instead, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her out the door. In the next moment, she found herself pinned against the wall. “Little Wildcat, I really couldn’t stop missing you,” he murmured.
Jonathan buried his face in the curve of her delicate neck, inhaling her scent deeply. He couldn’t help but think he was being shameless, but he didn’t
care.
The heat of his breath made Annabel’s entire body tense. She didn’t dare move recklessly, but her voice was sharp with anger as she gritted out, “Let go.”
Jonathan ignored her. His hand gripped the back of her neck as he leaned in and kissed her.
“Mmm.” Panicked, Annabel thrashed against him, but he was too strong. Desperate, she brought her knee up sharply, aiming for his groin.
“Ouch.” Jonathan was too caught up in the kiss to react in time. He grunted as her knee connected, his lips finally breaking away from hers.
Jonathan stumbled back several steps, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. “Damn it, are you trying to cripple me?”
“You had it coming,” Annabel retorted.
Annabel wiped her lips harshly with the back of her hand. “If you hadn’t forced me, I wouldn’t have fought back.”
Jonathan crouched down, his face pale as a sheet.
Noticing something was off, Annabel’s usually composed expression flickered with rare concern and panic. “Jonathan, don’t tell me I actually hurt you?”
“It hurts-” Jonathan’s voice was weak, almost a whisper. “I need you to check me.”
Annabel frowned deeply, knowing how critical the cock was for men. “Don’t worry. I’ll call an ambulance right now.”
Jonathan gritted his teeth and snapped, “Do you think I can just be carted off to the hospital like this?”
“Lie down on the couch inside,” Annabel said, her voice tight with frustration. After a moment of hesitation, she finally decided to help him check his injury.
Jonathan’s situation was indeed unsuitable for an ambulance ride; otherwise, it would be splashed across the tabloids by morning. Fortunately, her
medical training would come in handy.
Jonathan raised his arm weakly. “I can’t get up.“/
Annabel felt a headache coming on, but stepped forward to help him up, struggling to support him as they moved into the office.
Once Jonathan was lying on the couch, Annabel kept repeating to herself inwardly, ‘He’s just a patient. Right, a patient—‘
Annabel removed his belt and, with trembling hands, began to unzip his pants. Just as she was about to pull them down for the examination, Jonathan

suddenly grabbed her hand.
A playful smirk tugged at his lips, his eyes brimming with amusement. “Little Wildcat, are you seriously about to check it?”
Upon realizing she’d been tricked, Annabel’s anger flared. She kicked him hard. “You jerk.”
This time, Jonathan reacted quickly, pulling her onto his lap and gripping her waist firmly to keep her from getting up. His voice was low and teasing “if hadn’t tricked you, would you have cared about me?”
Annabel struggled to break free, her fury evident. “I’m warning you for the last time. Let me go.”
Jonathan tightened his hold on her waist, his voice dropping to a husky murmur, his gaze darkening. “Don’t move. Or is it that–You want me, too?”
Annabel’s face turned crimson. “Shut up, you jerk.” For the first time, she felt utterly humiliated. Coupled with the frustration of being deceived, her striking eyes shimmered with unshed tears, her voice choking slightly. “Let me go.”
Jonathan could no longer hold back. His hand slid from Annabel’s back to the nape of her neck, pulling her down.
Annabel gasped in shock as she toppled onto Jonathan’s chest, her lips accidentally brushing against his. “Mmm.”
Annabel glared at Jonathan furiously, but his eyes held a faint smile as he traced the shape of her lips, as if sketching the outline of her lips. After what felt like an eternity, Jonathan finally released her.
Annabel stood up, her clothes disheveled. The first thing she did was slap Jonathan hard across the face.
Despite the slap, Jonathan seemed in high spirits, smiling at her even after being hit.
Annabel was livid, raising her hand again but ultimately gritting her teeth. “You’re insane.”
Jonathan didn’t push his luck further, or perhaps he’d already taken enough liberties. After putting his pants back on, he left quickly, but Annabel spent the entire night sleepless.
The next morning, Mason arrived at the office and exclaimed in shock, “Annabel, did you not sleep last night? You look exhausted.”
Annabel replied indifferently, “Stayed up all night reading scripts.”
Mason sighed helplessly and reached out to pat her head, “Don’t overwork yourself so much.”
Annabel stared directly at Mason. Mason’s heart skipped a beat as he hesitated. “What is it?”
“You’ve been touching my head a lot lately,” Annabel remarked.
Mason’s pupils shrank, his mind going blank. “I–I, well-”
Annabel tilted her head slightly to avoid Mason’s hand, As she lowered her gaze to the contract, she said flatly, “Stop it. I don’t feel like washing my hair.”
Mason let out a sigh of relief, but couldn’t shake a sense of disappointment. He laughed awkwardly. “You know, you look so pretty, but you’re surprisingly lazy about hygiene.”
Annabel ignored him and asked, “Has Charles gone to the set yet?”
Mason nodded. “Yeah, I’ll go keep an eye on him. You should take it easy today and get some rest.”
Annabel replied, “Alright,” and continued working. Mason let out a helpless sigh.
Annabel had plans to return to the White residence. Once she wrapped up her work, she got in her car and headed back.

As she was nearing her destination, she noticed a crowd gathered by the roadside. It didn’t look like a car accident. She had already driven past but decided to turn back.
Sure enough, just as Annabel had suspected, someone had collapsed.
Annabel tried to step forward, but the crowd blocked her way. She had no choice but to speak up, “Excuse me, I’m a doctor.”
“She’s a doctor. Let her through,” someone quickly responded, and the crowd parted to make way for her.
Annabel stepped closer and saw an elderly woman lying on the ground. Her face looked somewhat familiar, like someone Annabel had seen before. She was Elizabeth Turner.
But there was no time to dwell on it. Annabel first asked the onlookers to step back to allow better airflow. Then, she crouched down and checked Elizabeth’s eyes. Her pupils were slightly dilated, but there were no other abnormalities.
Annabel then checked her wrist and quickly determined that Elizabeth wasn’t in serious danger. It seemed she had fainted from exhaustion and overheating. “Does anyone have a bottle of water? I need one.”
Someone quickly handed her an opened bottle of water. Annabel helped Elizabeth sit up, supporting the back of her neck with one hand, and carefully fed her a few sips of water.
Before long, Elizabeth opened her eyes. She glanced around, taking in her surroundings, and then asked, “Miss, were you the one who saved me?”
Annabel noticed a flicker of joy in Elizabeth’s eyes when she looked at her. Though puzzled, Annabel responded politely, “Do you feel any other discomfort? Any chest tightness or shortness of breath?”
Elizabeth shook her head and then firmly grasped Annabel’s hand, her expression filled with hope. “You saved me, Miss. Let me treat you to a meal.”
