Chapter 50
**Adam’s POV**
“Not real, this is not real, I am still in Dark Claw, I died in that prison, this is not real” Roman repeats over and over again like a broken record. He has curled himself into a ball with his knees to his chest while his hands pull violently at his hair.
“My Love, this is real, you are home, please calm down” I try to pull his hands away from his hair so he doesn’t hurt himself, but I can see him getting lost in his mind like that night he shattered the mirror. Roman shakes off my touch and continues chanting to himself.
“Not real, none of this is real”
“Honey, please stop hurting yourself” my Luna tries to reach out to her son but he jumps off the bed avoiding her touch, hiding in the corner of the room to get as far away from her as possible. My mate looks unsteady on his feet and I can see red seeping through the bandage wrapped around his chest, it is too early for him to be this active. “Stay away, or I’ll be tricked into killing you too!”
Everytime his parents or I try to get close to him to calm him down he just screams at us to stay back before repeating that nothing is real. I get a mindlink from Dr. Muller on what to do to help, so even as he screams and thrashes I approach fast and hold him in a tight hug as the old doctor sneaks up from behind me and injects a sedative into my mate's arm. Within seconds the room goes quiet and he slumps into my arms, completely knocked out.
“Roman is in shock, I think it’s best that next time he wakes up, it's only medical staff in the room after that reaction.” Dr. Muller Instructs as he gets to work peeling the soiled bandages from Roman’s ribs to see how many stitches were torn.
As the doctor unwraps the white gauze I see the damage that was hiding beneath and I feel my wolf scratching at the surface so he can go on a revenge driven rampage. I didn’t properly assess his condition when I brought him here and now I can clearly see every rib bone prominently as his skin looks shrink wrapped over top of them. Across his too thin frame is an array of scars, slices and burns. Each slice looks angry with the veins around each one a dark black colour, they look excruciating. “What is wrong with those cuts?”
“Poison. He was cut with a knife covered in poison, we are running a few labs to see what it is exactly. Whatever it is, it is inhibiting his healing. Some of these look to be over a week old but they have not even begun closing” Dr. Muller doesn't even look up at me while he continues helping my little mate. After fixing one of his stitches he begins the tedious task of re-attaching every monitor and IV before placing restraints on his wrist and ankles.
“He will be unconscious for another few hours but I don’t know what condition he will be in when he wakes. This is for his own safety, as I said before I also think it’s best if you are not here when the sedatives wear off” he says before any of us can object to tying my mate down. The thought of leaving Roman right now when he is hurt and scared goes against every fibre of my being but I, along with Romeo and Anne are gently pushed out of the room. Standing in the waiting room is my two younger siblings and Logan who all immediately rush us as we leave the ICU corridor. Althea latches onto me the way she has done since she was a small child, I brush her dark hair out of her green eyes that are glassy with tears as she sniffles. “Is he okay?”
“No, he is home and he is alive, but he is so far from being okay” I wrap my arms around her, returning the hug. Clutching her to my chest like I am a child and she is my comforting doll. I feel my sister's tears through the fabric of my shirt as Luca gets close resting a hand on my shoulder. “Go home and get some sleep brother, Ally and I will stay his side for a few hours”
“Roman isn't allowed guests right now” I say softly, still feeling his hands around my throat. I had just barely fallen asleep, for the first time in nearly three weeks I felt calm enough to sleep while holding my mate and surrounding myself in his scent.
Only to be ripped from my dreams, one second I was asleep, the next thing I heard was his heart monitor screaming and I thought he was dying then I could feel his choking grip on my neck. Roman’s fingers were pressing hard on my airways as he stared at me with deep onyx eyes.
*“I am going to kill you”*
I didn't even try to stop him, I was just so relieved to see him awake, that I would have let Roman drain the life from me. Subconsciously I bring my fingers to my tender neck to graze the bruises before shaking my head to rid myself of the memory.
“I am going to talk to the prisoner we brought back with us.” I remove myself from my siblings' holds and rush out of the hospital, knowing if I don't leave now, I never will. I want nothing more than to be by my mates side right now.
