Chapter 275 You’re Finally Willing to Get Angry?
The taste of blood spread between their lips, but Brandon remained unmoved, only tightening his hold on her waist as he deepened the kiss.
Olivia was furious and panicked. She struggled with everything she had, and finally, when his grip loosened for a moment, she shoved him away with force.
She stumbled back a few steps, her chest heaving, her cheeks burning, tears gathering at the corners of her eyes from the rough kiss. She glared at Brandon. "What are you doing!"
Brandon stood there with a small split at the corner of his lip, a faint trace of blood on it, looking a little disheveled.
But his expression was unusually calm, as indifferent and composed as ever. Looking at Olivia, he asked in a low voice, "Can you be angry now?"
Olivia froze.
"You've been bottling everything up, distracted all day, and you won't even say a few words." Brandon's voice was low. "If I didn't push you, how long were you planning to carry this by yourself?"
She suddenly understood.
That whole unreasonable scene just now had been deliberately staged by Brandon.
He had provoked her on purpose so she would finally let out everything she'd been holding in.
Olivia pressed her lips together. The anxiety and doubts she'd been suppressing suddenly surged up. She stopped hiding and said bluntly, "I'm not unhappy. I just want to know what happened to Frederick."
"You said you'd send him where he needed to go. I thought..."
She didn't finish, but the implication was obvious.
Brandon looked at her tense face and didn't argue. He simply took out his phone, opened a video, and handed it to her.
"What's this?"
Olivia hesitated, took the phone, gave him a puzzled look, and tapped play.
The screen shook for a moment, then an unexpected figure came into view.
It was Frederick.
He seemed to be standing on a beach somewhere, the sea breeze tugging at his clothes. Behind him stretched the open ocean and a setting sun. His expression was peaceful, and he even wore his usual gentle smile.
Seeing the camera, he lifted his hand slightly, his tone natural. "Ms. Smith, happy wedding day."
"About what happened at the villa, I know the truth now. From beginning to end, it had nothing to do with you. You don't need to worry about it."
"Brandon gave me what I deserved. I'm abroad now and won't be coming back to bother you two."
"I wish you both a long and peaceful life."
The video cut off.
Olivia held the phone, standing there in a daze, not knowing what to say.
No bloodshed, no revenge, no so-called wiping out every threat.
It was completely different from the ruthless methods she had imagined in wealthy family feuds.
Brandon sighed softly, stepped closer, and spoke in a gentle voice. "I know what you're worried about."
"I'm not the kind of ruthless man who'll do anything to achieve his goals as you imagine."
"Frederick does have ties to the Robinson family and did hold resentment, but he never actually hurt you. I had no reason to destroy him."
Olivia looked up at him, still puzzled. "But you said he was James's illegitimate son... Wasn't he trying to avenge James?"
Brandon's eyes darkened slightly, and he slowly shook his head.
"No."
"From the start, it was never about James."
Olivia stiffened again. "Then... what was it for?"
Brandon looked at her shocked expression and went on calmly.
"James was heartless to the core. He could kill his own family, let alone an illegitimate son he never acknowledged."
"He never had any real fatherly feelings for Frederick and treated him with complete coldness. Frederick was the same. He never saw him as a father, let alone wanted to avenge him."
Olivia only felt more confused. "Then... why did he want to kill Emily?"
"For his mother."
Brandon's voice dropped. "Years ago, at a party, Frederick's mother was publicly humiliated by Emily. Her words were vicious."
Brandon paused, as if recalling the past. "That woman already suffered from severe depression and was emotionally unstable. After being humiliated in public by Emily, she couldn't take it anymore and killed herself after going home."
"They say she committed suicide right in front of Frederick."
Olivia couldn't help drawing in a sharp breath.
Brandon shook his head and continued, "Frederick held back all these years, partly because he had no chance, partly because he was waiting for the right moment."
"It just so happened that the day Emily went to find you, she'd been drinking heavily and had sent all her security away. Frederick saw his opportunity and settled the score."
Olivia's heart trembled. "Then... what about the words written in blood at the scene?"
Brandon shook his head, his tone complicated. "Frederick didn't write them."
"Emily, unwilling to accept her fate even as she was dying, used her last strength to write your name, trying to drag you down with her and make sure you wouldn't have peace."
Hearing this, Olivia didn't know whether to fall silent or laugh coldly.
The whole thing was ridiculous.
What she'd thought was a carefully planned revenge and frame-up turned out to be a completely tangled web of grudges.
She steadied herself, then remembered that crucial location and quickly asked, "What about the villa?"
"Why did Frederick choose that villa? I thought he'd discovered the truth about James's death, so..."
At this, Brandon's expression faltered for a moment, becoming hard to read.
"Before it was abandoned, that villa was where Frederick and his mother lived."
Olivia's head snapped up.
"After his mother died, the villa was left empty and gradually fell into disrepair. James noticed that it was remote and secluded, so he took it over and used it as a secret place for handling his private affairs."
"Later, he kidnapped you and brought you there. After that, he himself died in that house."
After hearing this, Olivia completely froze, unable to come back to herself for a long time.
Around and around, all the grudges, kidnappings, and murders had ended up tangled together in the same villa.
What she'd taken for a conspiracy turned out to be... a complete misunderstanding.
Olivia pressed a hand to her forehead, feeling her scalp prickle.
"So in the end, it was all just a chain of coincidences?"
Brandon looked at her dazed expression, a faint smile flickering in his eyes as he gently pulled her into his arms.
"Yes."
"Except for Frederick avenging his mother, everything else was a coincidence."
"So do you feel better now? Your husband isn't some all-powerful, law-trampling, heartless capitalist."
Olivia couldn't help laughing. She pinched the bridge of her nose as Brandon bent down and kissed her forehead. "From now on, if something's weighing on you, just tell me directly."
"Don't keep it bottled up and let your imagination run wild, understand?"
A subtle warmth rose in her chest. Olivia couldn't help nodding lightly and looked up to kiss Brandon.
