Chapter 267 I Came Late
Chapter 267 I Came Late
All at once, the headlights flared on — that car was clearly about to ram into her again!
Olivia's blood nearly froze in her veins.
Her eyes flew open . She could only stare at the car...
After a loud crash, Olivia didn't feel the expected sharp pain. Instead, another black car suddenly shot out from around the mountain pass at a furious speed, charging straight into the first black car's side without a moment's hesitation!
A deafening boom shook the air.
The black car instantly lost control. With no chance to react, it was rammed off the road by this newly arrived car and crashed straight through the guardrail, plunging down.
A few seconds later, a thunderous splash echoed up from below the cliff.
Everything around fell dead silent.
Olivia leaned back in her seat, her whole body weak, her heart nearly bursting through her chest.
But before she could catch her breath, her car suddenly jolted. Then the entire vehicle began sliding uncontrollably down the mountain!
Olivia's face turned pale. She immediately used all her strength to unbuckle her seatbelt, but the buckle seemed jammed — no matter how hard she pulled, it wouldn't budge.
As the car picked up speed, Olivia grew so desperate she even broke her fingernails, but nothing worked.
Just when she thought she was surely going to die, a hand suddenly grabbed her arm!
Then another hand reached in, seizing her and hauling her up, dragging her right out of the jammed seatbelt.
The next second, Olivia was lifted clear of the car. Stumbling, she clung tightly to the person in front of her as they hit the ground together.
The out-of-control vehicle sped away, and a few moments later came a thunderous crash.
The car tumbled off the cliff beside them.
Olivia sat slumped on the mountain road, still in shock, the sound of the crashing car still echoing in her ears.
Trembling all over and covered in blood, she instinctively clutched the person beside her.
A full few minutes passed before Olivia suddenly gasped, finally coming back to her senses.
"Thank you, thank you..."
Olivia instinctively looked up to thank her savior, but when she saw his face clearly, she froze completely.
The man holding her was strikingly handsome, with strong features, a high nose bridge, and deep-set eyes. Especially those familiar deep gray pupils — they seemed carved into the depths of her soul...
It was Brandon!
Olivia's pupils contracted sharply, her mind went blank, all words stuck in her throat.
In that instant, shock, disbelief, joy — countless emotions exploded at once, so much so that Olivia forgot all words and movements, just staring blankly at Brandon.
Brandon lowered his eyes slightly, quietly looking at her, his usually cold and distant gaze now holding a hint of tenderness.
He didn't speak, just reached out and gently pulled her into his embrace.
He held her tightly, his grip growing stronger, as if trying to merge her entire being into his bones and blood.
Olivia could barely breathe. She could clearly feel Brandon's heartbeat, making her feel dizzy.
Brandon — conscious, alive and well, Brandon!
Olivia's whole body trembled. In that instant, the relief of surviving disaster, the lingering fear of escaping death, and the sudden joy of seeing him all surged up at once.
Olivia was nearly crying tears of joy. She raised her hands and hugged Brandon back tightly, with such force that she could barely breathe.
The sea wind howled past, sharp echoes rose from below the cliff, and the two held each other tightly, wishing they could merge into each other's flesh and blood.
After who knew how long, Olivia's tense body gradually relaxed, her heartbeat slowly calming down.
She loosened her grip slightly, lifted her blood-stained face, her voice hoarse and trembling, "...How are you here?"
"Weren't you still unconscious? What's going on?"
Brandon loosened his hold slightly, raised his hand to gently brush the wound at her temple, and after a long while, spoke in a low voice, "I heard you calling me."
"You called me, so I came."
Olivia was stunned.
Then she couldn't help but smile a little. She sighed and sat up straight. "What are you talking about?"
"Don't lie to me. Tell me, when did you wake up? How did you suddenly get here?"
Before Brandon could answer, a series of roaring engines suddenly sounded behind them.
Bright lights shot out from around the mountain bend, several cars speeding toward them, reaching them in the blink of an eye.
Car doors opened, and a group of people quickly ran over. Olivia, dazzled by the headlights, squinted and saw the uniforms the people were wearing.
They were the Robinson family's security guards.
A car door nearby opened, and a figure got out and slowly approached.
As he came closer, blocking the lights, Olivia could finally see who it was.
Dressed in a tailored suit, his refined features were thrown into relief as his gaze fell on the person beside her. "Brother, Ms. Smith, are you both alright?"
Olivia heard him use the familiar term "brother." She paused, instinctively turning to look at Brandon.
As soon as she looked up, she met Brandon's deep, calm eyes. He had been watching Olivia, and now, seeing her look over, the corners of his mouth curved into a slight smile.
Inexplicably, Olivia's face felt a bit hot. She hurriedly lowered her head, avoiding his gaze.
"Mr. Robinson!"
The security guards behind them finally realized what was happening. They glanced at the wreckage scattered everywhere, then at Olivia, covered in blood and in a terrible state, and finally all their eyes focused on Brandon. Everyone's expression changed dramatically.
"Mr. Robinson! You — you're finally back!"
"Mr. Robinson!"
The guards were shocked and quickly came forward to greet him respectfully. Then someone started shouting, "Mr. Robinson, Ms. Smith, you're injured!"
"Quick! Call a doctor right away!"
"Mr. Robinson, please be careful!"
The scene immediately became chaotic. Frederick watched this group coldly, then suddenly chuckled softly, looking at Olivia and Brandon.
"Brother, I'm really sorry. I came too late."
Hearing "brother" from his mouth again, Olivia's feelings were complicated.
Earlier at the Robinson family, someone had mocked Frederick for being an illegitimate child. At the time, she thought Frederick was some guest's illegitimate son.
Now it seemed he was probably the Robinson family's.
Even more absurdly, could Frederick be Brandon's half brother?
Olivia shook her head, forcibly pushing these speculations aside.
Whatever it was, it was the Robinson family's private matter and had nothing to do with her.
Noticing Olivia's movement, Brandon frowned slightly. Without acknowledging Frederick, he suddenly reached out with his long arm and scooped Olivia up into his arms without warning.
Olivia cried out in surprise, instinctively wrapping her arms around Brandon's neck, her nose filled with his familiar, subtle scent.
Brandon's movements were steady and strong. He held Olivia tightly and strode toward the car. The guards immediately rushed forward attentively to open the car door.
Olivia instinctively glanced at Frederick standing nearby.
Sensing Olivia's gaze, he smiled slightly, the warmth on his face never wavering, as if he didn't care at all about Brandon's indifference.
Olivia couldn't help but frown.
