Chapter 172 Chapter 172
Chapter 172 Chapter 172
Amelia's POV
Kai never came home again.
I hadn’t seen him since that day, the day he lost control and raged like a man possessed.
Maybe I was the one at fault.
Maybe I should have told him before I left back then.
He thought I had deliberately waited until now to tell him the truth just to make him feel guilty.
For the past month, out of anger, Kai had practically confined me to this house. I wasn’t allowed to go out or receive visitors. Still, Ezra managed to visit several times without Kai’s knowledge. At least his presence helped ease some of my boredom.
Ezra also helped deliver my clothing designs to Mike. From Mike, the designs would be passed on to Ryan, and Ryan would take care of the rest.
All the profits from my designs were deposited into my personal account by Ryan.
When Kai and I finally separated, I wouldn’t ask for any marital assets or money from my father. I wouldn’t even accept the shares he had given me.
I had already prepared my own future.
Even so, a sense of sadness always crept into my heart whenever I thought about our divorce.
I couldn’t lie to myself. I still loved him.
Even after he had betrayed our marriage.
Even though everything would eventually come to an end.
I believed God had His own way of arranging the lives of His servants.
Now, all I had to do was wait a few more months until we truly became strangers, an ex-husband and an ex-wife.
"Miss Amelia. Mrs. Miranda is here," one of the maids informed me from outside the door.
"Okay. I'll be there in a minute."
For more than a month now, Mommy Miranda had been visiting me regularly two or three times a week.
Earlier this morning, she had called and invited me to the mall to buy a birthday present for Kiara’s child.
I quickly gathered the papers scattered across my desk before leaving my room and heading downstairs to meet Mommy Miranda.
"Mom," I greeted her with a smile.
"Ezra came too?" I asked when I saw my brother-in-law sitting on one of the sofas in the living room.
"As you can see," Mommy replied, pointing her chin toward Ezra. "I told him not to come, but he insisted."
"Don’t you have work?" I asked him.
"There’s no job more important than the two of you," he replied with an overly serious expression.
Mommy Miranda immediately rolled her eyes.
"Here we go again," she muttered with a sigh.
"Come on, let’s go," she said, linking her arm with mine.
Thirty minutes later, we arrived at a large shopping mall in the city center.
Mommy immediately led us into a jewelry store.
"Let’s just buy jewelry as the gift," she decided as she pulled me into the spacious store.
I simply nodded whenever she asked for my opinion about the pieces she was considering.
Honestly, I wasn’t interested in attending Kiara’s child’s birthday party.
But Mommy had insisted that I come.
"I’ll pay for everything, Mom." Ezra handed over his bank card.
"Of course you will," Mommy Miranda said as she pinched his cheek affectionately. "I want to enjoy the fruits of my handsome second son’s hard work."
"After this, dinner’s on me too," Ezra declared proudly.
Mommy immediately gave him two thumbs up.
I simply sighed and looked away toward the storefront window.
"Want to go out tomorrow?" Ezra suddenly whispered.
"What?" I frowned.
"Stop looking so gloomy. Let’s go out tomorrow, okay?" he whispered again, lowering his voice so Mommy Miranda wouldn’t hear.
Ezra and I had surprisingly similar personalities.
Because of that, I knew exactly what he was trying to do.
He was trying to cheer me up.
"Okay," I whispered back.
Without realizing it, a small smile appeared on my lips.
After finishing our shopping at the jewelry store, we went looking for a place to eat.
"Hey, Amelia, right?"
Someone suddenly called out to me.
"It’s been a long time!"
I turned around.
"Ah, yes. How have you been?"
It was Rumana, one of my former school friends.
"I’m good. Who are they?" Rumana asked while looking at Mommy Miranda and Ezra.
"I’m Amelia’s mother-in-law," Mommy Miranda answered warmly.
"Huh? I thought you were already divorced?" Rumana asked innocently.
I sighed inwardly.
This was exactly why I hated going out.
This wasn’t the first time.
Every time I accidentally ran into old school friends, they always asked the same question.
I heard you got divorced?
"It’s still in process," Ezra answered casually.
Immediately, Mommy Miranda pinched his arm.
"Nothing like that. Those rumors aren’t true. Amelia has never been divorced," Mommy Miranda said with a warm smile.
I simply nodded and returned their smiles.
"Why did you choose this place, Ezra?" Mommy Miranda complained while flipping through the menu.
I knew she was still annoyed because of what had happened earlier.
We were currently in a Japanese restaurant chosen by Ezra.
"Because Amelia likes ramen, Mom," Ezra replied casually.
"Who said that?" I immediately turned to him.
As far as I knew, I had never said I liked ramen.
"I saw you eating noodles a lot, so I figured you liked ramen. Was I wrong?" Ezra asked with an innocent expression.
I let out a long sigh.
"Believe whatever you want."
"See? She likes it," Ezra said shamelessly.
Mommy Miranda simply shook her head at her second son's antics.
Not long afterward, Mommy Miranda decided to leave first because Daddy Osvar had called and asked her to come home immediately.
Once we finished eating, Ezra and I left the restaurant as well.
But just outside, Ezra stopped to answer a phone call.
I waited while absentmindedly looking around.
Then my gaze landed on a sight that instantly made my chest tighten.
At a Western restaurant directly across from ours, I saw Kai.
Yes...
It was him. He was sitting across from a woman, seemingly occupied with his phone.
And the woman...
The woman reached out and gently touched Kai’s cheek with a familiarity that made my heart stop for a moment.
A sharp pain spread through my chest.
As if an invisible hand had suddenly clenched around my heart.
"That’s Kai’s secretary," Ezra informed me.
At some point, he had already finished his call and was now standing beside me.
"Maybe they’re waiting for a client," he added.
"So now you’re defending him?" I asked without looking away. My eyes remained fixed on Kai.
"It’s a possibility," Ezra replied casually. "Maybe they’re waiting for a client."
He paused for a moment before continuing in a teasing tone. "Or maybe it’s like one of those novels, The Boss Dating His Secretary."
I immediately shot him a sharp glare.
Meanwhile, Ezra simply chuckled at my reaction.
"From now on, you should start learning to accept reality." His voice dropped into a whisper.
"Because you’re about to start seeing the ugly side of Kai River."
