Chapter 342 Heard That Ms. Rothwell Wants Me to Marry into Her Family
Arthur huffed irritably. "I couldn't? Why couldn't I? He left early, leaving his granddaughter to be bullied. How is that my fault?"
"It's not your fault—as long as you're not the one bullying her."
As Cathy spoke, she helped Arthur walk outside.
Arthur had been letting her support him just fine, but hearing this made him angry. "You little brat, whose side are you on?"
"I'm on your side."
"I don't see it."
"Then you might need reading glasses. I'll get you fitted for some soon."
Arthur fell silent.
...
Adrian didn't follow them out.
He walked to the courtyard to find Serena.
Serena was still by the pond feeding fish.
Philip crouched beside her, looking at her curiously. "Are you still the Serena I used to know?"
Serena went along with it. "Probably not."
Philip fell silent.
He and Serena were about the same age and had often played together as children.
But they really hadn't seen each other in many years.
Philip leaned his head over to look at her face.
No one knew what he was looking at.
Suddenly, his head was yanked back.
"Ow ow ow..."
Philip winced and turned to see Adrian. He smiled ingratiatingly. "Adrian..."
Adrian gave him a cool look. "What are you looking at?"
Philip pointed at his watch and leaned close to Adrian, whispering, "Adrian, you don't know—I've been timing this.
Since she started feeding fish here, three groups of people have come and gone around her, and she's still feeding fish. It's been forty-two minutes.
I'm just curious. The old Serena would have jumped in to catch fish. Which fish in our pond hasn't she terrorized? Now she just sits here feeding them... It's too abnormal."
"What should she do instead? Jump in?"
"Shouldn't she?"
If it were the childhood Serena, she would have jumped in long ago.
Adrian smiled without warmth at Philip. "Maybe it's been too long and she's forgotten how to jump in. Why don't you jump in first and demonstrate for her?"
"No! No! No! I've forgotten too!"
Philip said "no" and took a step back, then another "no" and another step back.
He retreated until Adrian couldn't reach him, then turned and ran away with a cheeky grin.
Serena met Adrian's gaze and smiled. "Finished talking with Grandpa?"
"Yeah."
Adrian extended his hand to her. "Come on. Let's go home."
Serena placed her hand in his palm and let him pull her up.
They didn't return to the living room, walking straight toward the exit.
Passing the parking area, Adrian didn't get in the car. He just pulled her toward the main gate.
Serena was puzzled. "We're not driving?"
Adrian looked at her, a smile playing at his lips. "I heard Ms. Rothwell wants me to join the Rothwell family."
Serena was surprised. "You know about that?"
"Mm."
Adrian casually wrapped his arm around her waist. "I'll fulfill that wish for you today."
Serena fell silent.
Of course she knew he was joking.
So he meant they weren't going home—they were going to the Rothwell estate?
The Locke estate and Rothwell estate were two properties in the same villa district, one in front of the other.
The Rothwell estate's back gate faced the Locke estate's front gate directly.
A few steps and they'd arrived at the Rothwell estate's back gate.
Not wanting to waste time going around to the front, Serena entered through the back.
Though Serena didn't know why Adrian was coming to the Rothwell estate.
Entering the main building's living room, she saw a man lounging on the sofa and was surprised. "What are you doing here?"
The man before her was none other than Frank.
Serena hadn't used the front entrance, so she hadn't seen Frank's car.
Adrian looked at his bored expression. "Is Mr. Smith so idle he's here catching mosquitoes for fun?"
"Exactly. With such a capable wife, what else can I do but be idle?"
Serena said delightedly, "Sarah's back?"
Without waiting for Adrian or Frank to respond, Serena headed upstairs.
Only the two husbandless men remained in the living room, looking at each other.
Frank personally poured Adrian a cup of coffee. "I heard Mr. Locke offered shares worth a hundred billion to marry Serena. Such generosity. Impressive."
Adrian took a light sip of coffee, set down the cup, and said leisurely, "Can't compare to Mr. Smith, who spent a hundred billion to clear all the Rothwell family's debts. Mine is just icing on the cake. Mr. Smith's was timely assistance in need."
Both had spent a hundred billion to marry their wives.
Just one before, one after. Neither could criticize the other.
Upstairs—
Serena threw her arms around Sarah's neck affectionately. "Sarah, why did you suddenly come back without telling me?"
"You're getting married tomorrow. How could I not come back?"
Sarah patted her hand. "Alright, I still have work to do. Go find your husband to act cute with."
"Wait before you chase me away. Let's talk a bit more."
Serena came around in front of her and asked, "Sarah, that diary—you went back to Sweetwater City to get it, didn't you?"
She clearly remembered she'd put that diary away years ago and never opened it again.
When she returned to New Valley, she hadn't brought it back.
Sarah responded coolly, "Yes."
Serena's eyes reddened as she looked at Sarah. "Why? How did you know about that notebook?"
"I didn't know about the notebook. I just knew you wouldn't ask to break off the engagement for no reason."
So Sarah had personally gone to the Sweetwater City villa to find some answers.
Unexpectedly, she'd actually found the notebook.
Sarah had specifically waited for Adrian and given it to him rather than Serena because she wanted Adrian to open it himself.
It seemed Adrian hadn't disappointed her expectations.
Sarah continued working without looking at Serena, her tone casual. "Remember—from now on, if you have doubts, ask clearly. Talk things through. Don't keep everything bottled up inside."
Serena smiled sweetly. "I know."
Sarah looked up at her smile and was momentarily dazed.
It seemed the bright, passionate Serena of the past was gradually coming back to life.
Adrian had put his heart into it.
Sarah smiled faintly.
At dinner, both couples stayed at the Rothwell estate to eat.
Lily prepared a sumptuous dinner.
Seeing the Rothwell estate, cold and quiet for so many years, finally lively again, with both young ladies married to wonderful men, Lily was moved to tears.
However, just as they were eating, the doorbell rang in the living room.
The four of them exchanged glances.
No one knew who would come at this hour.
After all, Sarah and Serena had only returned home this evening.
Lily said, "I'll go see."
