Chapter 337 What Am I?

Chapter 337 What Am I?

Serena pressed her lips together and said nothing.

"Answer me!"

Adrian commanded, his tone somewhat stern.

Serena got angry too, glaring at him. "What do you want me to say? Weren't you the one who said Sarah, as the family heir, was the most suitable match for an arranged marriage? You said our families arranged your engagement to me and that you didn't like me. Those were your own words. Have you forgotten?"

Adrian frowned hard, trying to recall when he'd said such things.

Seeing his blank expression, Serena angrily cursed, "Scumbag. You don't even remember what you said. Do I need to remind you? You were with a beautiful woman at the time."

"A beautiful woman?"

Adrian was still trying to remember.

Serena didn't want to deal with him anymore. She turned and headed toward the bedroom.

Adrian seemed to have some recollection.

He immediately followed her in and described the woman's appearance. "Was it her?"

"After all these years, you still remember what she looks like... and you say you don't remember. Men's mouths—nothing but lies."

She muttered under her breath, drying her hair with increased force.

Adrian laughed despite his frustration. Not wanting to argue further, he simply pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

Serena didn't know who he was calling.

She only heard Adrian say, "Send me photos of Frederick and his wife."

The person on the other end was Philip Locke, the fourth Locke son.

He asked curiously, "Why do you want photos of them?"

"Stop talking. You have three minutes. Send them now."

With that, he hung up and tossed his phone aside.

Serena was baffled by this whole performance, but didn't ask. She continued drying her hair, pulling so hard she was practically yanking it out.

Adrian went to the bathroom, got the hair dryer, and plugged it in.

Then he sat beside her and took away her towel.

"Give it back."

Serena tried to grab the towel back.

Adrian said helplessly, "Enough. Keep pulling and you'll go bald."

Serena stopped fighting for it but still wouldn't talk to him.

Adrian pulled her into his lap and dried her hair himself.

Serena didn't resist.

After finishing, Adrian turned off the dryer and set it on the nightstand.

He looked down at her, gently stroking her soft hair, his voice low and tender. "Okay. Don't be angry anymore."

Serena said nothing.

Actually, she wasn't really angry.

Everyone has a past.

She'd been with Chase. It was normal for him to have had women.

It was just... having those long-buried memories dug up, and him finding out about them...

She couldn't quite identify what she was feeling.

Just then, Adrian's phone chimed.

Adrian picked it up and opened WhatsApp.

Philip had sent a photo.

Adrian opened it and held it in front of Serena. "Look. Is this the woman you saw?"

Serena nodded. "Yes."

She remembered clearly.

But why would this woman be with Frederick?

They looked quite intimate in the photo.

What was their relationship?

Adrian saw the confusion in her eyes and explained proactively, "This woman is Sherry, from Marigoldia. She's Frederick's wife now."

"What?"

Serena was shocked. "How?"

Before Adrian could explain fully, the phone rang again.

Philip calling.

Adrian answered and immediately put it on speaker.

Philip's chattering voice came through. "Why do you want photos of them? I know Frederick was wrong to send Sherry to spy on you back then, but that was years ago. Sherry even apologized to you. Are you still trying to destroy them?"

"Enough."

Adrian didn't say another word and hung up.

On the other end, Philip was completely bewildered, having no idea he'd just helped explain everything.

Adrian looked at Serena. "Now do you believe me? Sherry and I had nothing. She was my classmate and Frederick's girlfriend at the time. Frederick was competing with me for the family business, so he sent Sherry to spy on me. Could I tell her the person I liked was you? If Frederick had found out, who knows what he might have done to you? I wasn't in the country and couldn't protect you, so I told her Sarah was a suitable match for an arranged marriage. I hoped they'd spread that word back home and get all those New Valley playboys to focus on Sarah instead."

Serena took a long moment to process all this information.

She did remember clearly—that period was when Frederick and Adrian were fighting most fiercely over the family business.

So Adrian hadn't lied to her.

But wait...

She looked at Adrian. "Then why did you bring up Sarah? Weren't you afraid they'd cause trouble for her?"

"Sarah is the heir Robert personally selected and trained. No one dares touch her. Besides, with her abilities and methods, ordinary people can't hurt her."

Serena lowered her head and said quietly, "She is smarter than me."

She wasn't jealous of Sarah. She just felt a bit melancholy. Sarah's excellence was far beyond her reach.

Adrian said irritably, "Yes, she's too smart. Everyone's afraid of her."

He pulled Serena onto his lap and patiently coaxed her. "But being smart doesn't help. Ask Tristan and Jake—who isn't afraid of her? Frank marrying her is really doing humanity a favor."

Serena got upset and turned to glare at him. "Don't talk about Sarah like that. She's the best. She's the most excellent."

Adrian got angry too, his tone sour. "She's the best, the most excellent? Then what am I?"

"You're second."

In her heart, Sarah was the best, the most excellent. Sarah ranked first.

Adrian took a deep breath. Fine. He wouldn't get angry. This wife was his own choice. He wouldn't get angry.

He lowered his head and kissed her fiercely.

Serena nearly couldn't breathe.

But hearing these explanations, she was genuinely happy.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and responded enthusiastically.

This time, they had no more barriers or misunderstandings between them.

They made love wildly.

Each time Serena felt her body being filled, felt him surging freely inside her, they climbed to the peak of passion again and again...

It was as if a warm current was silently flowing into her body—a long-lost passion.

The seventeen-year-old Serena seemed to come alive again.

Her empty heart gradually filled.

That night they were tireless. Serena couldn't remember how many times they'd made love.

She only remembered that by the end, her voice was hoarse and she was completely exhausted, limp in his arms.

So tired and sleepy.

Adrian, on the other hand, seemed perfectly fine, still talking in her ear. "Serena, your stamina isn't great. Tomorrow you're coming with me for a morning run."

"No."

She mumbled drowsily.

She just wanted to sleep now.

Adrian continued, "From your diary, it doesn't seem like you ever really liked Chase."

"Mm, didn't like him..."

She agreed with whatever he said.

Actually, she had liked him, just not very much.

Adrian, hearing her answer, smiled with satisfaction.

After a while, he asked again, "Then why did you name your company 'the Chasey Group'? Doesn't that contain Chase's name?"
