Chapter 332 She Is Already His
Chapter 332 She Is Already His
Serena had never felt this before—being kissed until her legs went weak, unable to stand steady.
Finally, Adrian picked her up, sat in his office chair, and settled her on his lap.
Serena glared at him somewhat resentfully.
Adrian looked at her red, swollen lips, kissed tenderly by him. The desire he'd barely controlled reignited in his eyes, like a starving wolf eyeing a little lamb.
Serena's heart fluttered under that gaze. Without thinking, she covered his eyes with her hand. "Don't look at me like that. Control yourself."
Adrian pulled her hand down and drew her into his embrace. "Okay, I'll control myself."
He picked up the three honeymoon proposals and placed them in her hands. "See which one you like."
Serena flipped through them casually. "I think they're all good. You decide."
"Alright."
Adrian agreed, then pulled a wedding dress catalog from his drawer and placed it in her hands. "While you're at it, pick a wedding dress too."
"Now?"
Serena could hardly believe Mr. Locke would look at things unrelated to work during work hours.
"So what? I've slaved away for Locke Group for so many years. Can't I do a little personal business occasionally?"
Serena couldn't help reminding him, "Mr. Locke, most of Locke Group's shares are in your name. You're working for yourself, okay?"
She didn't know how he could say such things.
Adrian laughed low. "Fine. Just look."
Serena had no choice but to open the wedding dress catalog.
Actually, there weren't many options—only a dozen or so total. Adrian had already gone through them and eliminated more than half.
The remaining dozen were all works by top international designers, globally limited, one-of-a-kind, with outrageous prices.
Serena's heart ached. She tried to negotiate with Adrian. "Wedding dresses are only worn once in a lifetime. Ordering such expensive ones isn't necessary, right? Something decent should be fine?"
Adrian pretended to think it over. "Normally, yes. But I earn so much money every year. If you won't spend it, who do you want to spend it?"
Serena fell silent.
He had a point.
She simply closed the catalog. "You choose. I think they're all good."
The ones he'd selected—she really couldn't choose between them.
Adrian looked at her, eyes narrowing slightly, as if studying her.
Serena felt uneasy under his gaze. "Why are you staring at me?"
"You want me to pick the honeymoon plan, you want me to pick the wedding dress. Serena, your taste is really questionable. When you picked your boyfriend back then, did someone else choose him for you too?"
Bull's-eye.
Serena coughed violently, glaring at him warningly. "Adrian, are you looking for trouble?"
Before Adrian could respond, she continued, "But Mr. Locke is right. My judgment really isn't great. I don't think I've thought through my marriage partner carefully. I should go back and reconsider."
As she spoke, she started to stand.
Adrian pulled her back onto his lap, staring at her coolly. "Give up that idea. In my world, there's only widowhood, not divorce."
Serena smiled faintly.
Actually, hearing him say that made her quite happy.
She didn't play coy. She tugged his tie and initiated a kiss on his lips.
They'd talked enough about these trivial matters. Time for business.
Serena reported to him, "I canceled tonight's dinner. I've cleared the time for you. The restaurant is Moonlit Lotus. Is that okay?"
"Nothing to be okay or not okay about. Anywhere you book is fine."
Serena nodded.
Adrian looked at her calm, gentle face. "You're not angry?"
Serena didn't understand at first why she should be angry.
But quickly, she realized—Adrian meant about having dinner with Faust.
At that dinner, some deals might be made.
Years ago, the Carrington family had humiliated Sarah. Now if Adrian and Carrington Group were to restart their partnership, Adrian worried she'd feel uncomfortable.
Serena smiled. "Normal business partnerships—some work out, some don't. If they'd refused to work with Sarah for business reasons back then, I'd have no opinion.
But from what I understand, that project at the time—a partnership between Carrington Group and Rothwell Group was the most suitable.
Sarah approached Carrington Group precisely because of that.
Sarah invested so much effort in that project. But they didn't want to work with her—they didn't say so at first, then at the signing, they chose a company with worse terms than Rothwell Group. Weren't they just slapping Sarah in the face?
Petty behavior, personal vendettas disguised as business, taking the opportunity to suppress her, publicly humiliating her—that's the behavior I despise.
Even now, many companies rely on Carrington Group—the Jones family is one, the Mole family is another. I don't like them either.
But the Carrington family is one of New Valley's four great families. If they collapsed completely, many people would lose their jobs, many families would be destroyed.
If Carrington Group can stop those despicable, dirty tactics and projects and give these people a way to survive, that's ultimately a good thing."
She said it all in one breath.
Adrian looked at her intently, appreciation flashing in his eyes.
Serena looked at him. "You were thinking the same thing, weren't you?"
Adrian ruffled her hair. "Yes. We're on the same page."
Serena smiled, playing with his tie, saying slowly, "You're a good person."
"But I don't want to be a good person."
He should have been ruthless, brought her home first, and dealt with everything else later.
He'd wasted so much time.
Serena didn't understand what he meant. Thinking he was talking about work, she nodded along. "Yeah, being a good person is exhausting."
Adrian fell silent.
They weren't on the same wavelength at all.
But at least she was his now.
