Chapter 323 Adrian Said He Would Introduce Her to Someone

Serena suddenly felt disoriented.

Adrian like this made her feel like she was dreaming.

It felt so unreal.

When Adrian didn't get a response, he noticed her dazed expression.

He walked over to her, his cool hand touching her forehead before flicking her between the brows. "Did you sleep yourself stupid?"

Only then did Serena snap back to reality, laughing dryly. "No."

"Really?"

Adrian bent down slightly, bringing his gaze level with hers.

Caught off guard, Serena found herself staring into his deep eyes, suddenly feeling as if he could see right through her.

She instinctively looked away.

Adrian straightened, his tone casual. "Good. If you caught a cold sleeping at my place and couldn't go on your blind date, Sarah would never let me hear the end of it."

That one sentence yanked Serena back to reality.

"Did Sarah call me?"

As she spoke, she reached into her pocket for her phone.

Sure enough, there was a call from Sarah—and it showed as answered.

Adrian must have heard it ringing and picked up for her.

Adrian returned to the stove, continuing to cook.

Serena stared at her phone for several seconds before taking it and heading outside.

She walked out to the second-floor corridor, making sure Adrian couldn't hear, then called Sarah back.

Sarah sounded like she'd just woken up, her voice carrying a sexy huskiness. "Serena, what's up?"

Serena had enough experience to immediately catch that something was off about her tone.

Sarah must have someone with her. They'd probably been up to something last night.

Serena asked quietly, "Sarah, am I interrupting?"

"Since you know that, hurry up and talk."

Serena hesitated for a few seconds before finally saying, "I don't want to meet Jacob anymore. He... doesn't give me a good feeling."

Sarah didn't respond immediately, seeming to think it over.

Serena heard a sharp slap from the other end.

Over ten seconds later, Sarah's voice came through again.

This time, it was much cooler. "You didn't like Jacob?"

Serena felt a bit guilty.

First Larry, now Jacob—she hadn't liked either of them.

Would Sarah find her too much trouble?

But marriage, barring any accidents or divorce, would last decades.

She didn't want to suffer through it.

She finally answered honestly. "I think, even for an arranged meeting, I shouldn't settle for someone terrible. Could you... set me up with someone else?"

"Setting you up again is no problem. But Adrian said when you get back, he could introduce you to some outstanding young men. Did he not mention it?"

Serena's grip on her phone suddenly tightened, her breathing becoming labored.

Adrian said... he'd set her up with someone?

Sarah asked again, "He didn't mention it?"

Serena came back to herself, her voice somewhat bitter. "He didn't."

"Then ask him. His connections should be pretty good."

"But I can't bring myself to ask..."

Serena's voice grew quieter and quieter.

She was already trying hard to control her emotions.

Sarah naturally heard it and realized if she continued, Serena would probably start crying.

She said lightly, "Alright, he only said that because I'd annoyed him that day. He didn't mean it. Serena, at the very least, you need to know what you want."

Serena bit her lip hard. After a long while, she finally said, "It's not that I don't know. I'm just afraid to want it."

Sarah's end went silent for quite a while.

Frank's casual voice drifted through. "What's there to be afraid of wanting? Look at me—I dare to want things! If you like something, you should fight for it."

Serena said nothing.

Not everyone had Frank's background and confidence to dare to fight and grab what they wanted.

Of course, another crisp, familiar slap answered him.

Then came Frank's shameless voice. "Did that hurt? If not, hit this side too. That way it'll be symmetrical."

"Get lost!"

Serena felt this call really came at the wrong time. "Sarah, I'll hang up now."

"Go meet Jacob today. After you meet him, then talk about whether you 'dare' or not."

Serena was confused and about to ask what she meant.

Sarah added, "Make sure to stay safe."

With that, Sarah hung up directly.

Serena thought for a long time but couldn't figure out what Sarah's words meant.

Finally, she simply stopped trying and went back inside.

By then, Adrian had finished making breakfast and had already brought it out, setting it on the dining table.

He sat at the table without eating.

Seeming to hear her approach, he looked her way.

Their gazes collided in midair.

Serena quietly steadied her emotions and walked over.

"Sit. Eat."

Adrian said flatly.

Serena sat down, picked up her utensils, and ate slowly.

She didn't say a word the entire time.

Adrian glanced up at her. "How does making one phone call turn you this silent? What, is Sarah forcing you to go on blind dates?"

Serena shook her head. "She's not forcing me. The blind dates are my own choice, but I've never had good judgment when it comes to people..."

At this point, she looked up at him, seeming to gather her courage. "Mr. Locke, Sarah said you know a lot of outstanding young men. Could you... introduce me to some?"

Her tone was tentative.

Adrian agreed readily. "Sure."

In that instant, the taut string in Serena's heart seemed to snap, her breathing gradually weakening.

What had she been expecting?

Had she been hoping for a different answer?

She lowered her head again and continued eating.

Adrian looked at her calm face—no joy, no emotion whatsoever.

His tone was casual but carried a certain weight. "I agreed. Why aren't you happy?"
