Chapter 186 Anonymous Document
Chapter 186 Anonymous Document
A few days later, Killian received a special anonymous document.
It was a complete risk assessment of the overseas project, clearly marked as not suitable for cooperation.
As Killian looked through the assessment, he immediately realized that Alfonso had someone deliver it to the Thorne Group.
This was a clean break, and also Alfonso's last move.
He didn't try to use the information to bargain for any position back - he was simply showing the grace of someone who had been defeated.
Killian didn't comment on it publicly. After thinking it over for a while, he handed the document to Lena, letting her decide whether to use it.
Lena had mixed feelings about this risk assessment.
Because thinking of Alfonso reminded her of all the things he had done before.
She simply couldn't warm up to Alfonso. When dealing with him, she always felt like there was an invisible barrier between them, making it hard to see into his heart.
Alfonso kept himself too guarded and wasn't genuine enough with people. Even though he always wore a smile and was polite no matter what, behind that smile hid a sharp blade.
At first, Lena didn't take Alfonso seriously, because in her view, if Alfonso wasn't bad by nature, they might be able to work together.
But the truth was, Alfonso wasn't a good person. From the moment he returned to the country, he had been eyeing the control in Killian's hands, wanting to replace him.
This clearly crossed Lena's bottom line, especially when she saw Killian's car accident - she nearly lost all rational control.
She couldn't tolerate anyone hurting Killian. Even if that person was also a member of the Thorne family, she couldn't accept it.
So in the end, she chose to stand on the same side as Killian and kicked Alfonso out of the Thorne Group.
"Lena, it's your choice," Killian said in a low voice, watching her serious expression. "Whether you want to keep this assessment or not, I support you."
"Let's keep it."
After thinking for a moment, Lena spoke up.
But she wouldn't contact Alfonso because of this - that relationship was completely over.
Before, they had been tied together by the Thorne Group. Now that Alfonso had left the Thorne Group, she wouldn't have any more dealings with him.
Seeing this, Killian nodded and said nothing more.
Meanwhile, Alfonso, far away abroad, looked at his phone that remained silent and gave a slight smile.
"What's wrong, Alfonso?"
The person next to him asked curiously, "Are you waiting for someone's call?"
"No..."
Alfonso replied flatly, resting his chin on his hand, his thoughts drifting.
Alfonso had thought Lena would reach out to him when she saw that assessment. Clearly, he'd been overthinking it.
Although he had always been full of ambition for the Thorne Group and was determined to push Killian down, Lena was still special to him.
After all, she was the first woman he'd ever met who was both so composed and capable.
Even facing his attacks, Lena remained unmoved, as if nothing had happened.
Lena was the most resilient woman he'd ever met. Even when he deliberately messed with her and assigned her an unreasonable amount of work, Lena wouldn't give up.
Instead, she persevered and completed everything, and even found the flaws in his plans.
His crushing defeat had everything to do with Lena. He also regretted underestimating her in the beginning.
If he had realized this earlier, maybe he wouldn't have lost so badly.
Thinking of this, Alfonso stood up and walked toward the reception, throwing himself into the party.
No amount of overthinking would help, because in Lena's eyes, he was just an insignificant existence.
She could only see Killian, and he would never catch her attention.
This little incident left Lena with complicated feelings, but it didn't affect her work. She still did her job responsibly.
However, Killian noticed this and suggested going for a drive after work.
Lena didn't refuse. After work, Killian drove her to the seaside.
"Why the sudden drive?"
Sitting in the passenger seat of the convertible, Lena felt the sea breeze brush against her face, and her mood lightened a bit.
"We need to enjoy life too. What's the fun in just burying ourselves in work all the time?"
Killian said to her with a smile. Seeing her expression gradually relax, he felt better too. "Don't you think we spend too little time alone together? We're busy with work during the day and spending time with the kids at home."
Although he enjoyed the time with the kids, their time as a couple was essential.
Before they had children, they were two independent people with their own lives.
His words struck a chord with Lena. She smiled and rested her face on her hand. "True, we can't ignore ourselves. It's nice to get out and clear our heads like this once in a while."
Killian drove to the seaside and held her hand as they walked onto the beach.
The two of them strolled along the wide beach. Even without much conversation, it felt comfortable.
They held hands tightly, gazing into the distance, their hearts pressed close together.
When they returned home that evening, Isolde was pleased to see them getting along so well.
Although she didn't say much, the smile on her face showed her attitude.
Seeing them like this, the children were also quite happy. Zoe especially clung to them and talked more than usual.
Watching the whole family laughing and talking, Lena felt warm inside.
But while she was moved, she also had other thoughts.
She couldn't just think about marriage - she also needed to leave herself room. If she didn't marry Killian, what would her future path look like?
Lena was someone who acted immediately when she thought of something. That night, back in her room, she started planning.
When Killian returned to the room and saw her writing and drawing on paper, he sat down beside her.
"Lena, what are you writing?"
The next moment, he saw the words on the paper and was slightly stunned - she was actually planning a future without him.
"I'm just thinking that the future has many possibilities. I can't just go down one path to the end. If we don't end up together, how would I develop?"
Lena didn't hide her thoughts but told Killian everything honestly.
Watching this, Killian didn't stop her. Instead, he actively helped her plan out the hypothetical scenarios.
Because he knew very well that only by fully supporting her could he put Lena's mind at ease.
