Chapter 177 How to Rely On

Chapter 177 How to Rely On

Fortunately, they had cleared the air and didn't leave too many issues unresolved.

Lena felt much better and soon left Killian's office.

Killian sat down, leaning back in his chair, when his phone suddenly rang.

He picked it up and was surprised to see a message from Isolde, saying she wanted to talk to him privately.

Killian felt both puzzled and surprised, but still readily agreed and set a time and place with her.

Two hours later, he drove to a members-only restaurant and walked into a private room.

Isolde was already sitting inside waiting for him; her expression was calm and composed, as if she had mentally prepared herself.

She had recovered well during this time, her complexion much rosier, and she looked very energetic.

"Did you need to see me about something special?"

Killian asked politely, unable to guess why Isolde had called him here.

Isolde smiled slightly, took a sip of her coffee, and said gently, "Killian, I asked you here today because of Lena."

Hearing it was about Lena, Killian immediately perked up, looking at her with full attention.

"You're a good person, I know that very well. These past days, whether it's been with Lena or with me, you've been impeccable. I've seen it all."

Isolde said with some emotion.

Although she didn't usually talk much, she had been quietly observing how Lena and Killian got along.

Because she also hoped Lena could find a good husband, hoped she could find someone who truly loved and cared for her.

Between Killian and Lena, despite some misunderstandings and ups and downs, Isolde could tell that Lena really liked Killian, and Killian cared deeply about her, too.

Their feelings were beyond question, not to mention they had the children.

The children connected Lena and Killian even more closely, like a bonding agent in their relationship.

Even though they had argued and fought during this process, they couldn't truly separate, because they always had each other in their hearts and couldn't let go.

"I'm not worried that you'll let Lena down, but as you know, Lena has gotten used to living independently all these years, handling everything on her own. She doesn't really know how to truly rely on others."

Isolde looked at Killian sitting across from her with some concern and said seriously, "Killian, I hope you understand that Lena needs someone who can understand her."

These words had a huge impact on Killian and made him rethink his position in this relationship.

He had to admit that his beginning with Lena wasn't exactly beautiful.

They were brought together by an accidental night, and after that, Lena left his side and raised the children alone.

Although she rarely brought it up, it was clear just from thinking about it that the hardships and setbacks she faced during those eight years were obvious.

And Lena had never complained to him about those struggles.

"I'm sorry..."

Killian said in a low voice, "If I had known earlier that it was Lena, I wouldn't have missed all those years and let her raise the children alone."

"You don't need to say that to me," Isolde said with a faint smile. "I believe Lena doesn't want to hear any apologies either. She's strong, you should know that better than I do."

"I hope you two can be together, but the process definitely won't be easy."

Killian certainly understood what she was saying. Getting the always-independent Lena to accept his presence wasn't a simple matter.

Just like they had just disagreed about security, it was because he considered safety issues, while Lena didn't want to be treated like a caged canary, protected and sheltered so carefully.

Why had it become this way?

He wished so much they could go back to how things were at the beginning, when he didn't have so much power and influence, and Lena wasn't like this either.

But regrets were useless. He had to look forward and show Isolde his determination.

"Please rest assured, I will take good care of Lena and consider these issues."

Killian said earnestly, "I know the road ahead for Lena and me might be difficult, but no matter what happens, I won't let go of her hand."

"I will always stay by her side, make her happy and joyful."

Hearing him say this, Isolde nodded with relief.

"Killian, I'm entrusting Lena to you," she said softly. "I feel regretful that I couldn't be by her side, but I'll make up for it bit by bit from now on."

"You need to take care of your health," Killian couldn't help but remind her. "You mean more to Lena than I do. If something happened to you, Lena definitely wouldn't be at peace."

Isolde smiled and agreed, feeling that he considered everything thoughtfully.

The two chatted and laughed for quite a while before returning home together.

That evening, when Killian and Lena went back to their room, he thought about what Isolde had said during the day and reached out to hold her in his arms.

Lena still hadn't completely let go of her frustration and turned her back to Killian, closing her eyes.

"Lena."

Killian said softly in her ear, "If I could, I really wish we could go back to eight years ago."

Eight years ago?

This confused Lena, and she asked, "Why?"

Killian continued, "Because I want to walk through those eight years with you, instead of letting you be alone."

Lena's heart stirred slightly.

No one had ever said such things to her all these years, and she had never thought about what the result would be if she lived differently.

"But the past is the past. What's the point of talking about it now?"

She took a deep breath and said in a muffled voice.

Indeed, even if Killian wanted to turn back time, what's done is done.

"So I hope you can live better and better from now on," Killian tightened his grip and said behind her, "In this family, there's me, there's you, and there are the children."

"I want to be with you, I want to protect you."

His sincere confession touched Lena, but for a moment, she didn't know how to respond.

"You don't have to give me an answer right away," Killian continued. "I'll keep waiting until the day you agree."

Killian didn't want to force Lena, but hoped she would truly want to marry him from her heart.
