Geoffrey and Ethan had prepped a whole table of Maureen’s favorite dishes with the chef. When Ethan saw Katherine and Jacob arrive, he looked surprised.
“Katherine, Jacob, what’re you doing here?”
“We’re late, hope we can still join for dinner?”
Katherine’s arrival instantly brightened the mood.
“Of course you can.”
Katherine brought both kids to help out in the kitchen.
Maureen stared at the empty rooms, her appetite gone.
Geoffrey approached. “You alright?”
He wasn’t like Alex–good with words or comfort.
“Yeah.”
Maureen nodded.
“You guys must be hungry. Go eat without me.”
“You need to eat anyway.”
Since Zoe’s incident, Maureen hadn’t eaten a bite. Geoffrey worried about her health.
“But-”
“No buts.”
Geoffrey cut her off. “Remember, you’re carrying a child.”
Belatedly, Maureen rested a hand on her lower abdomen.
She’d almost forgotten the baby.
“Okay, I’ll eat.”

At dinner, Maureen mechanically forced food into her mouth.

With Albert and Scott convinced Roy was their descendant, Katherine couldn’t let Jacob stay overnight.
Maureen also feared her dark mood would affect Jacob, watching them leave.
Their departure made the house feel emptier.
Maureen couldn’t bring herself to look toward Zoe’s room–as long as she didn’t go in, Zoe would still be there.
At night, after Ethan fell asleep, Geoffrey sat beside Maureen.
“Tomorrow we’re moving back to Karaville.”
Maureen froze, staring at him in confusion.
“Karaville has better medical facilities than Small Town, and it’ll be easier for Ethan’s treatment.”
Geoffrey wasn’t telling the truth.
He feared Maureen would remain trapped in this place forever.
She’d only returned for Zoe, hoping to spend Christmas Holidays with her in their hometown. Now that Zoe was gone, she truly had no reason to stay.
But going back with Geoffrey? She refused.
“Geoffrey, I don’t want Karaville. I want to go abroad.‘
The amnesiac Geoffrey would never have grasped her meaning.
But with his memories fully restored, he knew Maureen sought escape from their life together.
He gave a bitter laugh, tightening his grip on her hand.
“What?
You divorcing me again? Or dumping me this time?”
Back when Geoffrey was fine, Maureen had sneaked away.
Now that he was blind, she dared tell him to his face she was leaving–did she think he was powerless now? Helpless against her?

Maureen didn’t notice the shift in Geoffrey’s expression, her lashes lowering slightly. “Didn’t we agree?
You promised a divorce. I don’t want this.
Geoffrey tightened his grip.
Maureen gasped sharply. “It hurts.”
He loosened it immediately. “I refuse.”
“Tll compensate you. I’ll cover part of your debts, like restitution for the accident.”
Maureen pressed on. After all, during the crash, Geoffrey had shielded her, taking the impact himself.
For the first time, Geoffrey understood what a knife cutting through his heart felt like. This was it.
“Who wants your compensation?!”
His voice rose, anger barely contained.
“Then what do you want? Tell me, if it’s within my power-”
Maureen’s words cut off as Geoffrey covered her mouth.
Her eyes widened. She tried shoving him away, but he didn’t budge an inch.
Geoffrey had left bodyguards watching Maureen after returning home, fearing she might bolt. That’s how he knew Alex had visited her.
Maureen was kissed until she could barely breathe.
She pounded Geoffrey’s shoulders hard, and the man loosened his grip slightly, letting her gasp for air.
“I want you.”
Geoffrey’s voice was low.
Before Maureen could react, he scooped her up again and carried her into the bedroom.
Weakened by her constitution and exhausted from recent days, Maureen stood no chance against Geoffrey.
Geoffrey acted strangely tonight–ignoring her pleas, refusing to yield no matter what she said.

The man’s shoulders bore bite marks, his back covered in scratches, while Maureen’s mouth held the metallic taste of blood
Perhaps releasing pent–up frustration, she’d poured all her anguish onto Geoffrey tonight.
Geoffrey endured the pain, cradling her as his thumb gently traced her spine.
Utterly spent. Maureen drifted asleep in his arms.
By the time she woke again, the family was already in the car heading back to Karaville.
Staring at the blurring landscape outside, she asked, “Where are we going?”
“Back to Pearl.”
Geoffrey held her closer, adding, “I’ve had Steven sent there ahead of us.
Maureen lifted her gaze to his face–once perfectly handsome, now marked with fresh scratches.
Reaching out with some guilt, she expected him to pull away, but Geoffrey didn’t move.
“Sleep a little longer. If you’re still mad when we get home, you can hit me all you want.”
Home.
Maureen rarely heard that word.
“Geoffrey, do you love me?”
She couldn’t help but ask.
Geoffrey’s throat tightened. “Of course I do. I love you very
much.”
Hearing this, Maureen suddenly found it miraculous how amnesia could make someone fall for a person they’d once despised.
