Chapter333
Maureen wasn’t worried Elizabeth would refuse–her next text contained evidence gathered by Justin proving Elizabeth had hired thugs to attack her.
Even if I couldn’t put Elizabeth in jail, I could still ruin her reputation.
Maureen didn’t look for trouble, but she wasn’t afraid of it either.
Now she was talking to Elizabeth because she was her half–sister. She thought Elizabeth didn’t know, so she wanted to chat.
Maureen told Zoe she had something to do today and would be back late.
Ethan quickly said, “Mom, can I go with you?”
Maureen shook her head, “Stay home and talk with Grandma. You have a check–up at the hospital this afternoon.”
“Okay.”
After she left, Zoe watched her back and murmured, “Our Reenie longs too much for family bonds.”
People are like that–the more they lack something, the more they want it.
Maureen never got much affection growing up. Besides Juan, she didn’t feel love from relatives.

So when she learned Elizabeth was her real sister, her feelings were especially complicated.
A small diner off the highway in Karaville.
When Maureen arrived, Elizabeth was already waiting there. Like Noelle, she cherished her reputation.
Elizabeth watched Maureen walk in, bundled up tightly with only her pale face visible.
She had to admit Maureen was beautiful–her features delicate, especially those eyes that looked like they were painted.
Though layered in thick clothing, Maureen’s curves still subtly showed through.

Elizabeth knew she wasn’t bad–looking herself, yet somehow felt lacking beside Maureen.
“Whatever evidence you sent is useless to me. Save your energy–I’m not easily intimidated.”
Elizabeth took the initiative, her tone sharp.
If you weren’t afraid. Maureen thought, why arrive carlier than me? But instead of calling her out. she pulled out a document and handed it over.
Elizabeth took it suspiciously. Her eyes flickered strangely upon opening it.
“You investigated me?”
She held a paternity test report, yet her first reaction wasn’t to question the parentage result but to accuse Maureen of digging into her life.
Maureen’s heart sank instantly.
“You’ve known all along that you’re Noelle’s daughter.”
Her statement hung in the air.
Afraid Maureen would expose this to her nominal mother Barbara, Elizabeth rushed to explain: “I only learned yesterday–from Noelle herself. That’s when I discovered you’re my biological sister.

Elizabeth reached out to hold Maureen’s hand. “If I’d known earlier, I’d never have hurt you. We’re sisters, after all. I’m nothing like Adrian.”
Maureen pulled her hand away, her eyes icy with detachment.
Truthfully, Elizabeth’s acting couldn’t hold a candle to Andrea’s.
Having been burned by Andrea before, why would Maureen trust Elizabeth now?
“I came to warn you, not to play sisters,” Maureen stated coldly. “Cross me again, and you’ll regret it.”
Elizabeth’s face hardened.
As Maureen stood to leave, she added, “Your family’s precious status means nothing. Every bit of
the Thompson fortune was stolen from the Ramirez Family. I’ll reclaim it all.”
Elizabeth watched her disappear, then stamped her foot in fury.
“How dare she threaten me?”

Spoiled since childhood, she’d only known humiliation since returning–first from Alex, now from Maureen.
Elizabeth vowed to make Maureen pay. Sisters? Maureen wasn’t worthy of being her sister She
needed no sister anyway.
Outside the restaurant, Maureen faced the biting wind. Snow blanketed everything in white. She stood exhausted, body and soul.
She didn’t go home, but took a taxi to Memorial Park, placing fresh flowers before her father’s grave as usual.
Zoe was both right and wrong–Maureen longed for family bonds, but had long given up on Noelle and her ilk, expecting no warmth from them.
“Dad, I miss you so much.”
The wind howled, answering only with icy gusts.
Maureen remained unfazed, standing in the cemetery for hours.
Unbeknownst to her, an uninvited guest arrived at her Small Town home.
Ethan was at the hospital for checkups with Uncle Justin, leaving Zoe and the maid at home.
Noelle stood dripping with luxury in the modest living room, radiating arrogance: “Zoe, you’re lucky–my daughter supports your retirement?”
“As her birth mother, this breaks my heart.”
Her eyes swept over Zoe’s caretaker and the kitchen chef, noting the compact yet fully functional
space.
Zoe snorted coldly: “Some women give birth but not raise–dare they speak of motherhood? What a joke.”
The living room fell silent.
Noelle never expected a former housekeeper to dare speak to her like this. She raised her hand to
strike Zoe.
The caregiver stepped forward: “Ma’am, our elderly lady has health issues. You can’t lay hands on her, or I’ll call the police.”

Noelle’s hand froze mid–air as she sneered.
“What elderly lady? She’s just a down–and–out woman no man wants. Got lucky looking after my daughter. Now that my daughter and son–in–law have made it, they pay to keep her–thinking
