Chapter 297
“In a few days. Grandpa will buy you a huge room. You won’t have to follow your mom around living rough anymore. Grandpa will take care of you.”
“Tomorrow. Grandpa will take you shopping for clothes, shoes, and toys, okay?…”
Katherine watched Scott walk away with Jacob, hearing those words, and suddenly felt uneasy.
If Dad found out Jacob wasn’t his grandson, would he actually hit her?
Whatever, she’d handle it when the time came.
She called Maureen back to say everything was fine.
Maureen felt relieved and called Ethan.
Just then, Ethan had lain down but wasn’t asleep yet. Getting Maureen’s call made his eyes light
“Mommy, why didn’t you visit me today?
Are you still mad at me?”
After sneaking into the old Sutton residence last time, he’d seen Maureen angry for the first time – it genuinely scared him.
Maureen heard Ethan’s voice wasn’t playful like before, but cautious instead, and immediately explained: “Mommy was too busy today, forgot to call you. I’m sorry. I’ll come see you tomorrow, okay?”
Hearing this, Ethan couldn’t help but sigh in relief, and said obediently: “It’s okay, Mommy. You’re busy.”
“I’m doing fine at the hospital. You don’t have to come all the way.”
If it were before, Ethan would’ve whined to get Maureen to come right then. Now he was as
sensible as Jacob.
Maureen felt especially heartbroken hearing that.
She silently decided she must go see Ethan tomorrow.

After chatting for a while. Maureen finally hung up.
After hanging up, she lay down on the sofa to rest

Maureen slightly frowned and opened her eyes to see Geoffrey standing nearby at some point.
“Is something wrong?”
Maureen asked in confusion.
“Before dinner, were you really just taking a walk?”
Geoffrey asked.
Maureen didn’t want to tell: “Yeah, why?”
“Nothing.”
Hearing that, Geoffrey didn’t ask further.
After he left, he immediately called his bodyguards to check the surveillance.
As expected, the surveillance nearby wasn’t working today.
“Then check further away.”
“Yes.”
Before long, Geoffrey received all the vehicle information his bodyguards had uncovered.
They were all nearby cars, and owner details emerged.
One belonged to the Sutton Group.
Geoffrey ordered his men to investigate that car specifically.
Soon, surveillance footage surfaced.
Geoffrey had Wayne open it, clearly seeing Alex inside.
Wayne didn’t understand the situation but reported it was Alex.
After hearing this, Geoffrey hung up without a word.
Maureen had finished showering and was heading to bed.

Opening her door, she saw Geoffrey sitting inside.
“What are you doing in my room?”
“Sleeping, obviously.”
Geoffrey stood and began undressing.
Maureen’s face flushed instantly.
“Get out! Put your clothes back on!”
Geoffrey ignored her. Nearly undressed, he lay on the bed.
“I don’t sleep clothed. Don’t mind me.’
Maureen hadn’t expected such shamelessness. She immediately grabbed the blanket.
“Out!
Out!”
Geoffrey’s long arm yanked her into his embrace.
He rolled over, holding her close. “Starting now, we sleep together.”
Maureen paused, “No, let go, or I’ll…” She hesitated, “I’ll bite you.”
Bite?
Geoffrey’s throat tightened, his voice raspy. “Okay.”

Maureen had never seen someone so provoking. She opened her mouth and sank her teeth into his shoulder.
She didn’t use too much force, but it must’ve hurt.
Geoffrey grunted softly. Instead of releasing her, he pulled her closer.
“Reenie, do you hate me that much?”
Maureen froze.
“Didn’t we make it clear?
I’m only caring for you out of obligation now, not to live as husband and wife.”

“I never agree!”
“How can you go back on your word?”
Maureen panicked, raising her voice

Just then. Mrs. Ingram’s aged voice came from the doorway “Reenie, is everything alright?”
As Maureen started to answer, Geoffrey spoke first.
“It’s fine. Rest early.”
Mrs. Ingram showed no surprise at Geoffrey’s voice. “Alright, you two get some rest.
Maureen seized the chance to rise, but Geoffrey anticipated it and caught her.
“Keep biting.”
Maureen ignored him, angrily wrapped herself in the quilt, and made Geoffrey lie aside.
“If you want to sleep here, just sleep like this.”
She turned off the light, and soon after, Maureen fell asleep.
Geoffrey listened to her steady breathing and pulled her right into his arms.
The next day, when Maureen woke up, she bumped into Geoffrey’s firm chest.
She slowly opened her eyes, looked up, and met Geoffrey’s handsome face.
Maureen hurriedly got up from his embrace, made sure he was still asleep, and threw on her coat to get out of bed.
As soon as she opened the bedroom door, she saw Zoe was also up.
Zoe looked at her with kind eyes.
“Reenie, come here, I want to talk to you.
Maureen felt a bit embarrassed; Zoe must have misunderstood.
