Chapter294
Geoffrey heard every word–cach “blind guy” made his expression darken.
“Reenie, I’m stepping out.”
“Need help?” Maureen asked.
“No.”
Geoffrey felt his way out, memorizing the route but wary of collisions.
A receptionist rushed over, beaming with admiration. “Sir, where to? Shall I take you out?”
Her smile vanished before three seconds passed. Geoffrey shoved her off, his voice icy:
“Get lost.”
The receptionist stumbled backward, crashing onto the floor.
The place fell silent.
Maureen’s gaze snapped toward them.
She hadn’t seen Geoffrey lose his temper since the amnesia–this was the first time.
Maureen hurried over, helping the fallen receptionist up. “Sorry, he hates being touched by strangers.”
The receptionist was startled by Geoffrey and took a moment to recover. “It’s nothing.”
Maureen then grabbed Geoffrey’s arm.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“Can’t you talk things out properly?”
“Why did you push that girl?”
The arm that woman had held felt particularly uncomfortable to Geoffrey, and Maureen’s words made it worse. “I didn’t push her, just pulled my arm away.‘
”
“Then could you be more gentlemanly?”

Maureen lowered her voice.
Geoffrey grunted reluctantly.
Gentlemanly? Wasn’t he always?
After leaving the store, he stripped off his jacket and tossed it into a nearby trash bin
Then he made a phone call.

Soon, the women who’d gossiped about Geoffrey were “politely” escorted out by the manager.
Maureen remained busy selecting gifts, unaware of the incident.
When she went to pay, the manager bowed. “Mr. Sutton already settled the bill. I’ll personally deliver everything later.”
Maureen glanced at Geoffrey in the lounge, wondering where he got such money.
She approached him. “I thought you were broke?”
Geoffrey had his excuse ready. “My brother’s engagement – how could I let you pay?”
“That was my private savings. Barely a drop in the debt bucket.”
Maureen didn’t say anything after hearing it.
The two shopped all day before finally getting what they needed.
On the way back, they took a taxi. The driver was at the wheel, and she leaned against the window, exhausted.
“Geoffrey, remember, you owe me this favor.”
She didn’t want to give in silence anymore; whatever she did, she would say it and make him
repay.
Geoffrey reached out and pulled her into his arms: “Yeah, I remember.”
Outside the window, heavy snow began to fall again.
Maureen was too tired and just let him hold her.
Geoffrey held her soft body in his arms, feeling great. But he couldn’t see, so he didn’t know what expression Maureen had now or how she felt.

“It’s almost Christmas Holidays, why choose now to get engaged?”
Maureen asked casually.
Geoffrey held her tighter: “Maybe after they get engaged, they’ll marry soon.”
Maureen was tired and sleepy, too lazy to think much.
“By the way, who is his fiancee?”
“The Thompson heiress, Elizabeth.”
Elizabeth!
Maureen froze in Geoffrey’s arms.
He felt her tense up immediately.
“What’s wrong?”
Maureen shook her head. “Nothing.”
Geoffrey’s handsome brows furrowed, his earlier good mood vanishing.
“If you don’t want to go,
I’ll
go
alone.”

“Zoe said it herself–I’m his sister–in–law after all. I should attend his engagement.
“1
Only when Maureen acknowledged being Alex’s sister–in–law did Geoffrey’s expression soften slightly.
Back home, after sorting gifts, Maureen collapsed exhausted onto the sofa.
Soon, her phone rang.
She answered without checking. “Hello?”
A painfully familiar voice came through.
“Reenie, it’s Alex.”
Maureen’s heart instantly tightened.
Though they’d met before, they’d never spoken privately–given their positions.
“What do you need?”

Countless questions died on her lips.
“Could we talk in person?”
Alex asked.
He’d tried meeting her multiple times, always refused. Now he called directly.
He wasn’t sure she’d agree.
Remembering how he’d helped her as children, Maureen couldn’t bring herself to refuse. “Alright.”
“Turn right when you leave, walk two hundred meters. I’ll be waiting there.”
Alex gazed toward Maureen’s nearby residence.
Maureen hadn’t expected him to arrive so early. After hanging up, she grabbed a coat and headed
out.
Geoffrey was still busy in the study, unaware she’d left.
Neither anticipated Alex would dare come here.
Maureen draped her coat over her shoulders, opened an umbrella, and stepped into the swirling snow; a vast blanket of white stretched before her.
She hadn’t walked far when she spotted a black Maybach parked quietly beside a modest cottage. Maureen halted, rooted to the spot, unable to move forward.
The car door opened nearby. Alex stepped out first, clad in a black overcoat, walking toward her without an umbrella.
He’d driven himself here today, resolved: if Maureen refused to meet him, he’d leave and find another way.
Maureen slowed her pace, staring at Alex’s intensely familiar face, momentarily dazed.
He looked so much like Geoffrey.
As Alex drew closer, Maureen’s eyes inexplicably grew warm.
Before she could speak, Alex smiled and asked, “Don’t you recognize me?”
