Chapter274
Secondly, she needed to protect the Sutton Group. Blind and amnesiac, Geoffrey would’ve been nothing but a puppet despite his substantial shares–better to transfer them to his younger brother.
Geoffrey had just left at noon, saying there was urgent work.
Maureen looked at Heather sitting high and mighty on the sofa, and hearing her tone, couldn’t help sneering: “You dumped Geoffrey here. What right do you criticize how I care for him? I haven’t let him starve or freeze. I’ve done my duty as his wife.”
Heather was left speechless by the retort.
After a moment, she stood and glanced around: “Where’s Geoff?
I’m taking him home now.‘
Now Alex basically controlled the company. All shares and assets were transferred. She wasn’t worried about those old men or juniors snatching the foundation Geoffrey built.
Time to bring Geoffrey home.
“I won’t go back.”
A voice came from the doorway.
Geoffrey had returned unnoticed. He stood there in a black coat, obsidian eyes seeming perfectly
normal.
Heather never imagined her brilliant son would become blind.
Watching him walk in step by step, she rushed to support him – but he shoved her away.
Heather’s hands hung empty, heart instantly slashed by knives.
“Geoff, are you still mad at Mom?”
“Mom is doing all this for our family. Your father doesn’t care about anything. If I also step back, the foundation you built will go to others. Better to hand it over to Alex. When you recover, I’ll have him return it to you.”
Heather knew about Geoffrey’s condition: his memory might come back, but his eyes wouldn’t.

The doctor said the trauma from the car accident damaged his optic nerves, he’d spend his life in
darkness.
Geoffrey listened unmoved:
“Go back and tell Alex to wait. I won’t let him off”
He remembered everything from childhood; Alex wasn’t the gentle soul he pretended to be.
“Slap!”
Heather slapped him hard across the face.
Maureen watched in disbelief nearby.
It was the first time Heather had hit Geoffrey. Her hand trembled as she lowered it: “Alex is your brother! He’s more obedient than you. He never refuses anything I ask. If he weren’t sick, he’d be Sutton Group’s CEO!”
“He said he never wanted to replace you! He did it for our family! How can you be so selfish?”
Heather scolded him over Geoffrey’s words.
Maureen listened silently nearby, suddenly thinking of herself and Adrian.
Every time, no matter what, Noelle would only side with Adrian…
Perhaps having been through hardship herself, Maureen didn’t want others to suffer the same. When Heather was about to lecture Geoffrey, Maureen stepped in front of him:
“Had enough?
Geoffrey’s the one whose identity got stolen! He was Corporate Giant’s CEO, but after losing his sight, his own mother dumped him in the countryside like some nobody. Abandoned. And now he’s the villain in her story?”
“You praise Alex because he’s obedient? Is that why he’s ‘good‘?
What if he disobeys too?
Would he become ‘bad‘ then?
Is obedience your only measure for a child’s worth, Mrs. Gu?”
“Truth is, the selfish one here is you!”

She’d always believed she’d sacrificed so much for Geoffrey, feeling misunderstood–yet never considered his perspective.
Geoflicy never expected Maureen to defend him. All the dark clouds in his heart vanished in that
moment.
Heather dug her nails into her palm, refusing to admit fault as she hissed at Maureen, “If you hadn’t failed to bear Geoff a child after all these years of marriage, why would I be rushing to find his replacement?”
In a family business, a childless heir was utterly ridiculous.
“You have no right to lecture me! What mother wouldn’t cherish her own son?”
Heather delivered her final blow before leaving.
Maureen stood frozen, an unexpected pang of sorrow washing over her.
Her own mother had never cherished her.
That’s why she’d impulsively intervened earlier.
Lost in thought, she suddenly felt a hand grasp hers from behind.
“Reenie, thank you.”
Geoffrey had never felt lighter.
Maureen snapped back to reality, pulling her hand away. “Don’t thank me. I just acted on impulse- felt sorry for your pathetic situation. It’s not for any other reason.”
She immediately headed straight to Maid Zoe’s room, hoping the commotion downstairs hadn’t disturbed the elderly woman.
Thankfully, Roy was out shopping with Uncle Justin and missed Heather’s visit.
Meanwhile, during her car ride home, Heather massaged her throbbing temples.
Maureen had truly developed a temper–daring to lecture her own mother–in–law!
“Drive faster,” she ordered the chauffeur through clenched teeth.
The car was passing through Town Center, slowed by traffic.

Heather frowned and rolled down the window just then, spotting a familiar small figure nearby.
“Jacob!
What’s he doing here?”
Heather told the driver to stop, got out, and chased after him.
