Chapter240
Geoffrey returned home and couldn’t find Maureen anywhere.
He felt irritated.
He always left notes when going out, yet she hadn’t told him where she went.
The caregiver Maureen hired for Zoe was cooking in the kitchen. She kept glancing at the brooding Geoffrey outside and finally spoke up when she heard him call for Reenie
repeatedly:
“Ms. Ramirez might not return for days. She instructed me to care for the elderly lady.”
Hearing an unfamiliar voice, Geoffrey asked: “Who are you?”
“Sir, I’m the caregiver Ms. Ramirez hired for the elderly.”
The caregiver walked out and realized he was blind. She immediately added: “Sir, caring for two people costs extra.”
“When Ms. Ramirez hired me, she only mentioned caring for the elderly. Nothing about a blind man.”
She kept emphasizing “blind man.”
Geoffrey’s face darkened: “I need no care.‘
“You’re blind! How could you not need help? I don’t care–pay more!”
Geoffrey’s expression turned icy.
“Get out!”
The caregiver jumped at his shout.
“Why yell at me?
Ms. Ramirez hired me. Only she can fire me.
“Besides, who’ll care for the elderly if you fire me?”

Ten minutes later, bodyguards hiding in the shadows came in and carried the caregiver out
Zoe was startled awake by the commotion outside. She got up to check and saw the caregiver yelling: “You won’t pay extra? Fine! But you had people drag me out? I’m calling the police! I’m suing you!
Waa waa…”
Since childhood, no one had dared act up in front of Geoffrey. He’d never seen such a country shrew before. It gave him a headache.
Geoffrey walked outside: “Gag her and dump her on the street.”
The caregiver was a middle–aged woman in her forties or fifties. Though she couldn’t fight the bodyguards, she was fierce and shameless.
She didn’t know Geoffrey and figured no man would dare touch her. She could even extort
money.
“Help! No justice here! Someone’s tearing my clothes off…”
“A blind man’s harassing a married woman now!”
Neighbors nearby, drawn by her shouting, came out one by one to watch and gossip.
The bodyguards hadn’t gagged her yet when she bit them.
Geoffrey clenched his fists, murderously furious at her vile words.
Just then, Zoe hauled her exhausted body over and slapped the caregiver across the face.
“My son–in–law’s handsome and young! Even blind, he’d never fancy an old hag like you!” “Take a piss and look at yourself! You’re an ugly toad trying to eat swan meat!”
Suddenly, there was uproarious laughter all around.
Zoe took money out of her pocket and threw it in front of the woman: “Here’s half a day’s pay Get lost, and don’t let us see you again.”
Both being from the countryside, after being scolded by Zoe like that, the woman took the money and reluctantly got up.
“Your blind son–in–law is so fierce, I’ll never take a job at your house again.”

The woman left while muttering. The surrounding neighbors couldn’t help but comfort Zoe and Geoffrey.
“Zoe, we didn’t notice until you said it, but your son–in–law is really handsome, just like a big star on TV.”
“Yes, yes, yes, fair–skinned and clean, tall, and good–looking.”
“The caregiver you hired is really not a good one. I heard she specializes in cheating the elderly. Good thing you drove her away.”
“His friends are also handsome. Do they have girlfriends? Do you want us to introduce some?”
The people here mistook Geoffrey’s bodyguards for his friends.
The bodyguards were a bit shy for a moment and secretly looked at Alex.
Geoffrey stood at the doorway, his expression unchanged as he listened to the chatter outside, though the tips of his ears burned crimson.
“Ask them,”
he told the bodyguards.
The guards immediately shook their heads in unison.
Soon, the neighborhood ladies began offering to play matchmaker.
Zoe lived in the remote part of Small Town, where locals only knew Maureen was once the boss’s daughter who supposedly passed away after some incident.
They later discovered it was all a misunderstanding.
The reason nobody contacted Zoe stemmed from five years ago, when Geoffrey arrived with a team and took several neighbors for questioning.
At the time, everyone assumed Zoe’s family had offended powerful figures, so they kept their distance afterward.
Back when Geoffrey questioned them about Maureen and Zoe’s whereabouts, they hadn’t dared look up, failing to recognize him.
Now, seeing Zoe and Maureen’s blind husband, they couldn’t resist stealing glances.

Initially pitying the blind husband, their admiration for Maureen surged upon seeing Geoffrey–landing such a handsome man. Blindness has its perks; he couldn’t wander off
After the brief commotion,
Geoffrey and Zoe returned indoors.
Geoffrey still remembered Zoe introducing him as her son–in–law, his ears faintly flushed.
Zoe never expected a dignified big boss could be bullied by some shrew.
