Maureen knew Heather was strong–willed with a controlling nature. She understood that revealing the truth meant she’d lose custody of the child after birth.
“Mrs. Sutton, I’ve made myself perfectly clear. If you doubt me, ask your son.”
Heather’s expression froze.
eyes Mentioning Geoffrey made her redden.
“Do you even have the nerve to mention Geoff?
Do you realize he’s still in ICU after saving you? The doctors say glass shards pierced his eyes–completely destroyed.”
Completely destroyed.
Maureen stared blankly, disbelief washing over her.
“What?”
“The doctors say even if Geoff wakes up, he’ll be blind!”
Heather clenched her fists.
Her brilliant son–ruined.
With Geoffrey blind, who could she rely on?
Maureen never imagined the man born with a silver spoon could lose his sight.
How would someone so proud endure blindness?
Maureen always knew why Geoffrey resented her. Beyond the fraudulent marriage, her partial deafness played a role.
Her difficulty hearing drew mockery from elite social circles.
Geoffrey feared nothing more than taking her to banquets, and now his eyes were ruined.

Heather could see from Maureen’s eyes that she wasn’t as heartless as she appeared.
“Maureen, Geoff told me you were the one who saved me before.
At first I didn’t believe it, but I had people investigate. Turns out I was blind and mistook the person.”
“I’m here to apologize to you!”
“Geoff saving you this time makes
up
for
my wrongs,
but you can’t be ungrateful!”
Heather stared intently at Maureen, asking word by word, “Now tell me, who’s the father of that baby in your belly?”
Heather had decided: if Maureen admitted the child was Geoffrey’s, she’d raise it after birth to take Geoffrey’s place.
Maureen stayed silent for a long while, just about to answer.
Urgent knocking came from the door.
Heather went to open
From across the room, Maureen heard the approaching nurse say, “Mrs. Potter, Mr. Sutton’s awake.”
Heather hurried out of the hospital room.
Maureen got up to follow, but before reaching the intensive care unit on the second floor, bodyguards stopped her.
“Sorry. Mrs. Potter said no one goes upstairs except her.”
Maureen could only return to her room and wait.
She prayed nothing was wrong with Geoffrey, please let nothing be wrong with his eyes.
Not because she still loved him, but because she didn’t want to owe him.
After some time, a bodyguard knocked: “Ms. Ramirez, Mrs. Potter requests your presence.
Maureen left her room and headed to the second floor.
Just as Katherine described, security was extremely tight–only Heather, bodyguards, and medical staff were present.

The bodyguard announced to Heather: “Mrs. Potter, Ms. Ramirez is here.”
“Understood.”
Heather stood at the ICU entrance, eyes bloodshot as she looked at Maureen. “Geoff wants to see you.”
Maureen nodded and entered. Her gaze immediately fell upon Geoffrey lying in bed, bandages swathing his head and eyes.
Medical equipment surrounded him, the wrappings obscuring his features completely.
Maureen’s pupils contracted. Unbidden, her mind flashed to her father after the car accident- covered in blood, weak and helpless in his hospital bed.
She didn’t dare approach, standing meters away from Geoffrey, watching him from afar, her throat tight.
Perhaps hearing no sound of her approach, Geoffrey raised his hand, his thin lips parting: “Reenie…”
Reenie…
He’d always called her by her full name before.
Maureen dragged heavy footsteps toward him: “I’m here.”
Hearing Maureen’s voice, the man on the hospital bed seemed to relax at last, exhaling deeply.
Then, Maureen heard Geoffrey continue:
“It hurts so much, Reenie.”
Maureen froze slightly, having never seen Geoffrey act coy before. She felt at a loss.
What shocked her more were Geoffrey’s next words.
“Reenie, make them leave. I don’t know them. You know I hate strangers.”
“What did you say?”
Maureen turned to look at Heather.
Heather stood with tears welling up.

A doctor nearby explained: “After Mr. Sutton’s accident, his memory suffered damage. He remembers nothing.”
“He woke up calling your name, demanding to see you.”
Maureen couldn’t believe it: “Impossible?”
As her words faded, the man on the bed violently ripped off the medical devices attached to him, then-
Crash!
-heavily slammed onto the floor.
Heather and the others panicked.
“Geoff, Geoff, are you alright?”
Geoffrey endured the pain, refusing their help as he groped blindly through the air.
“Reenie, where’s Reenie?”
This disheveled version of Geoffrey seemed utterly foreign to Maureen.
Heather tried forcing him to lean on her, but he shoved her away.
“Reenie, where are you?
I’m scared!”
The doctor urgently told Maureen, “Ms. Ramirez, please calm Mr. Sutton down.”
Maureen snapped to attention and rushed to Geoffrey, grabbing his hand.
“I’m right here. Get back in bed now.
Hearing this, Geoffrey stilled, allowing her to guide him onto the hospital bed.
Nurses re–treated his reopened wounds.
