He dropped all pretense of civility. “You’d rather have Alex’s child, wouldn’t you?
Dreaming of marrying him, right?”
“Let me tell you, a weakling like him could never satisfy you!
He couldn’t possibly give you a child!”
Maureen had no idea Alex had returned to Karaville.
Maureen was hearing about Alex’s situation from Geoffrey for the first time.
“Where is Alex?”
She wanted to ask him why he had told her his name was Geoffrey back then.
She also wanted to know where he had gone all these years.
Seeing Maureen so desperate to find Alex, Geoffrey realized he was the real joke.

“You’re married yet pining for your own brother–in–law? How dare ask?”
Geoffrey’s eyes reddened.
“I stopped wanting to be with you long ago.”
If not for the mandatory cooling–off period, they would’ve divorced already.
Geoffrey clamped his hand over her mouth, silencing her.
Maureen slapped and clawed at his back, but he wouldn’t release her.
Cold wind howled outside. Knowing she couldn’t escape, Maureen cradled her belly, fearing for the baby.
At that very moment, Maureen decided she must sever all ties with Geoffrey.
The night raged with howling winds and driving snow.
Geoffrey held Maureen tightly in his arms. Her throat felt parched, craving water desperately.

“I need water.”
Her voice came out hollow.
Geoffrey’s eyes slit open. His long arm reached for the bottled water on the nightstand, revealing clear teeth marks on his hand.
His shoulders bore similar marks, his lips split and bleeding.
He uncapped the bottle and handed it to her.
Maureen took a few sips, finding slight relief before sour bile rose in her throat. Nausea gripped her.
“Ugh!”
She couldn’t hold back, shoving Geoffrey’s arm away as she doubled over the bedside, retching violently.
Geoffrey sat up, his hand moving to rub her back. “What’s wrong?”
Maureen slapped his hand away. “Don’t touch me!”
His hand froze mid–air.
She turned, icy eyes locking onto him. “Get out. Now.”
Geoffrey’s handsome face darkened instantly. He grabbed her face, ignoring her struggles.
“You have one Reenie’s hour to pack. We return to Karaville in sixty minutes.”
They’d lingered here long enough. He had neither time nor energy left for her defiance.
Releasing her, Geoffrey rose from the bed. He pulled on a robe and strode out, the door clicking shut behind him.
Maureen didn’t plan to escape this time. Last night, she’d realized Geoffrey kept pursuing her precisely because they remained legally married.
She picked up her phone and dialed Katherine,
“Kathy, do you handle divorce cases?”

One hour later.
Maureen stood by the entrance with her suitcase.
Geoffrey emerged with bodyguards trailing him.
He’d prepared to forcibly remove her, never expecting she’d obediently wait for him.
Geoffrey approached in his tailored suit: “Changed your mind?”
“Mm.”
Maureen’s expression stayed cold.
A bodyguard automatically took her luggage, following them.
The group boarded a car bound for the airport.
Unseen observers watched their departure.
They arrived in Karaville at four that afternoon.
Maureen stepped out wearing a down jacket into swirling snow that blanketed everything
white.
She instinctively tightened her coat.
As Geoffrey moved to pull her close, a clear voice called from afar: “Reenie!”
Maureen turned to see Katherine waving at her.
Katherine had only ever seen Geoffrey on television or in newspapers before this moment.
Alex stood tall and handsome, surrounded by bodyguards like an untouchable flower–aloof
and noble.
No wonder Reenie had been so infatuated with him before, and why both Little Buns turned out so handsome–it’s all genetics!
Maureen turned to face Geoffrey’s outstretched hand and ignored him completely. “My friend’s here to see me. I’m going to meet her
Geoffrey figured since she’d agreed to come back with him, pushing too hard might make her bolt again.

“Okay, go ahead.”
He withdrew his hand.
The moment Maureen left, he immediately dispatched two private bodyguards to follow her. Then he boarded a business sedan headed for the office.
After Katherine picked up Maureen, the two settled into the car.
Katherine sighed genuinely, “Seeing Geoffrey just now, I finally understand why Jacob’s so brilliant and handsome.”
She then pulled a document from her purse and handed it to Maureen.
“Are you sure about suing Geoffrey?
Here’s the complaint I drafted for you.”
After Maureen and Katherine discussed the divorce lawsuit, Katherine began drafting the complaint.
“Well, I don’t think we can keep going on like this forever.”
Maureen glanced at the complaint before telling Katherine: “Just let me know what documents you need.”
“I want this lawsuit wrapped up quickly. Are you confident we’ll win?”
Katherine hesitated for a moment, studying her carefully:
“Reenie, if you provide your past medical records, we’d have an 80 percent chance of winning.”
Maureen had struggled with infertility since marriage, undergoing various treatments.
