Chapter141
“What’s the rush?”
His Adam’s apple bobbed: “Didn’t you say before you wanted us to be real husband and wife?
Holding hands, embracing, kissing……..”
Maureen couldn’t fathom why he’d suddenly bring this up.
Her younger self had been so naïve.
He’d been her first crush, her secret love, the man she’d married.
Naturally she’d wanted to share everything couples do–every intimacy married partners experience–even dreaming of having children together and growing old side by side…
But now, after all they’d endured, she’d long abandoned those hopes.
“I don’t dare wish for such things.”
She answered.
Not that she didn’t dare–she simply didn’t want to.
Geoffrey saw right through her, his throat suddenly clogging as if stuffed with cotton, choking him.
“But now I want to try with you.”
Maureen froze, staring at him in astonishment.
Geoffrey continued: “Be my wife for a month. If you agree, I’ll let you go afterward. All past debts will be written off.”
He refused to believe Maureen didn’t love him at all.
Previously, her anger never lasted more than a week.
“Really?

You won’t lie to me?”
Maureen calculated–one month was perfect to confirm pregnancy. Leave if pregnant, stay if
not.
For some reason, her question made Geoffrey uneasy,
“Mm, I won’t lie.”
Maureen knew verbal promises meant little.
But she had no choice.
“I trust you. Don’t deceive me.”
Geoffrey’s chest tightened further.
Confirmed–she truly wanted to leave.
Suddenly he craved to chain her down, forbid all movement.
He quickly suppressed the urge.
He didn’t need Maureen!
Keeping her? Probably just resentment.
Since choosing to divorce, Maureen had never thought she and Geoffrey would become real husband and wife.
Geoffrey stroked the stray hair at her temple: “Call me.”
Maureen parted her red lips: “Geoff.”
Geoffrey was about to kiss her, but the doorbell ruined the beautiful moment.
It was someone delivering food.
An hour later.
The two tidied up and had their meal.
“Is there nothing at the company today?”
Maureen asked tentatively.

Geoffrey noticed she seemed eager for him to leave.
“Yeah, I’ve handed most of the work to others.”
Actually, it should have been done earlier, as the head of the group, he had too much to do and should delegate.
Maureen couldn’t help worrying: if he didn’t leave, how could she go back to the room to get that bottle of sperm?
Geoffrey looked at her: “Do you really want me to go to the company?”
Maureen shook her head: “No, I was just asking out of curiosity.”
“This month, I’ll put work aside, and we’ll get along well.”
Geoffrey added.
Putting work aside…
Maureen was a bit incredulous but nodded: “Okay.”
“Didn’t you say before that you wanted to go back to Small Town?”
Geoffrey said casually.
Maureen’s hand holding the water cup tightened.
When they first got married, she often told Geoffrey about the small County Town where she
grew up.
After all, liking someone means wanting to share everything with them.
“Yeah, I did say that.”
“Later, pack your things. We’re driving there this afternoon.”
They agreed to be husband and wife for a month.
It was his first time deciding to be Maureen’s husband, and he didn’t know how to do it.
Thinking of what others called a honeymoon, he figured it must be like this.
Maureen froze for a while before snapping back: “Okay, I’ll go pack now.”

She went back to her room.
Maureen picked up her phone and saw a missed call from Katherine.
She called back.
The call was answered quickly.
“How did it go?”
Katherine was eager to know the answer.
“Yeah, it worked.”
Maureen felt there was a high chance she could get pregnant this time.
“Great! So can we take Steven away from here?”
Katherine asked.
“It’s not certain yet. I want to get checked and confirm the pregnancy before leaving.”
Maureen also told her about Geoffrey saying they’d be husband and wife for a month, and that they were going to Small Town this afternoon.
Katherine was confused: “What kind of trouble is that jerk trying to cause now?”
“Anyway, we still have to wait a month.
Maureen’s hand rested on her lower abdomen. If she was pregnant, it would take ten months to carry the baby to term–it wouldn’t be born so quickly.
“Alright.”
Afraid Geoffrey might come upstairs. Maureen didn’t say much to Katherine before hanging
She quickly packed a suitcase.
When the cleaning lady came to tidy up, Maureen excused herself to the master bedroom, secretly wrapping the sperm bottle in a quilt to smuggle it out.
After packing, Maureen changed into casual clothes and dragged her suitcase downstairs.
“Are we leaving now?”
