Chapter 107
She hadn’t paid much attention before, but now, thinking back, that woman had delicate features, a perfect, alluring figure, and most importantly, eyes that seemed to hold a pool of clear spring water, unforgettable.
Could such a beautiful woman really be deaf?
She couldn’t help feeling regretful inside.
Geoffrey didn’t answer his friend, got up and said, “I’ve got something to do; I need to head back.”
Under everyone’s astonished gaze, Geoffrey headed toward the entrance, halting when passing Larry.
“What did she say to you just now?”
Larry relayed Maureen’s words to him verbatim.
Geoffrey asked no further questions and strode away swiftly.
Not long after he left, someone from their social circle informed Andrea about Kim’s situation.
Busy managing online backlash and suppressing trending topics, Andrea froze upon hearing some woman dared pur- sue Geoffrey, frostiness flashing in her eyes.
“Thanks for telling me.”
Andrea immediately made a call: “Teach that woman named Kim at Chaster Club a lesson.”
How dare any Tom, Dick or Harry compete with her for Geoffrey?
This Andrea wasn’t the poor girl who could be bullied anymore–being a star gave her leverage.
Pearl.
When Geoffrey returned, all living room lights were off.
Only after switching them on did he spot Maureen’s purchases on the table, confirming her return.
Approaching the coffee table, he eyed three shopping bags containing clothing.
Geoffrey looked closer and realized they held men’s apparel.
His eyes darkened.
Upstairs, Maureen’s bedroom door stood ajar, glowing faintly.

He gently pushed the door open to find Maureen sitting on the balcony chaise in a pale, thin dress. Her hollow gaze fixed on the moon outside as she melted into the night like a painting.
Geoffrey stared, transfixed by her silhouette against the darkness.
Maureen turned to look at him, the corners of her eyes flushed red. Yet when he braced for tearful accusations, her voice remained eerily calm.
“I went to Chaster Club earlier. Saw you and your friends didn’t want me there, so I came back.”
She rose, padding barefoot toward him.
“I’m tired. If you’ve nothing else, could you please leave?”
Geoffrey remained, studying her serene face. “You went shopping? Really?”
No bodyguard would lose her on a shopping trip.
Maureen knew he’d doubt her. “Thank you for agreeing about the contract. I picked up clothes for you while I was out.”
He hadn’t expected gifts.
Logic screamed she was lying, yet when their eyes met, Geoffrey swallowed his doubts.
After a brief silence in the room, Geoffrey added, “Don’t take what you heard at Chaster Club seriously.”
It was the first time he’d ever offered words of comfort.
Yet Maureen didn’t feel any better. Her hands, hanging at her sides, tightened slightly before she forced a bitter smile.
“Yeah, I know. I’m used to it.”
Used to it…
A lump formed in Geoffrey’s throat. He wanted to explain, but the words died before reaching his lips.
Maureen spoke with feigned nonchalance, “Don’t worry, I’ll hurry up and repay you. Once you’ve resolved whatever’s bothering you, things will be fine.”
Geoffrey couldn’t recall how he left that place.
Back in his own room, an intense discomfort settled in his chest.
This unease wasn’t born of guilt, but rather Maureen’s attitude.
Her indifference now stood in stark contrast to how she used to be.
When you
love someone, it shows. When you don’t, that shows too.
Sleep eluded Geoffrey again. He sat on the balcony, his gaze drifting unconsciously toward Maureen’s room.

Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined their relationship would deteriorate to this.
On the other side of the wall,
Maureen lay awake too.
Even in summer, she still wrapped herself in a blanket to sleep.
The moment she closed her eyes, the taunts echoed relentlessly in her ears and mind.
Little deaf one…
She touched her ear, warm liquid trickling down.

Maureen took the tissue from the bedside, wiped away the blood, then took some medicine, and hugged the doll left by Ethan and Jacob, dozing off lightly.
Geoffrey was trustworthy this night and didn’t come over.
The next morning, when Maureen woke up, she saw a figure bustling in the open kitchen.
Dressed in a light shirt and gray pants with an apron tied at the waist, the man cooking porridge made Maureen stare in surprise.
She had never seen Geoffrey cook before.
She only knew from Andrea that he could cook, and had personally cooked for her.
Geoffrey heard footsteps upstairs and looked up.
“Awake?
Come have porridge.”
As he spoke, he ladled two bowls onto the dining table.
Maureen didn’t notice the pot of failed porridge piled in the sink.
Geoffrey’s slender fingers were red from scalding.
Born with a silver spoon, he couldn’t even wash dishes–useless at daily life. He’d just followed an online tutorial for this porridge.
