Chapter 307 He Can Be Reckless When Protecting Someone
Chapter 307 He Can Be Reckless When Protecting Someone
When Candice and her group returned to the Mortimer Mansion, it was already very late, and the two little ones had long been asleep.
However, Gabriel and his wife were still up.
The couple had been incredibly anxious all night after finding out about Candice's accident.
They couldn't get through on the phone either, so they were still waiting in the living room.
Hearing the sound of footsteps, the couple jumped up to meet them as they came in.
"Is that Candy back?"
"How is Candy? Where is she hurt? Is it serious?"
Ainsley was extremely worried.
Their daughter had been so hard to find and bring back - if anything happened to her, it would kill them.
Candice knew they were worried and felt a bit guilty.
She quickly said, "Dad, Mom, I'm fine. My phone died tonight, and I didn't notice. I'm sorry for making you worry."
"Why are you apologizing? We wanted you to go out and have fun, to relax a bit. Who knew something like this would happen?"
Ainsley held Candice's hand, but her eyes were fixed on the gauze on her forehead, clearly still worried.
She looked at Caspian and asked, "Is her forehead really okay?"
Caspian nodded and reassured her, "It's really fine. We went to the hospital for a checkup. I've seen all the reports - it's just a bump, nothing serious. Please don't worry."
"That's good, that's good."
Ainsley felt relieved.
Gabriel's face darkened though. "The White Family has gotten bold, daring to lay hands on Candy!"
Caspian knew Gabriel was angry and said, "I'll handle this matter. Don't worry!"
Ainsley didn't want these things to affect Candice's mood, so she interrupted them. "Alright, it's getting late. We can talk about this tomorrow.
Candy, Qiana just arrived in Silverlight City today and must be tired. Take her upstairs to wash up first, then get some rest early."
She said to Qiana with some apology, "Qiana, it's too late today, so I won't be a proper host. Please make yourself at home here, treat it like your own place, and don't be shy."
Qiana wasn't visiting for the first time and didn't mind. She smiled and said, "Okay, good night, everyone, and good night, Caspian!"
"Good night."
Caspian gave a nod, his expression cold and distant, yet he was still strangely handsome.
Qiana sneaked another glance before heading upstairs.
That night, after washing up, Qiana and Candice lay in the same bed chatting about the evening's events.
Qiana asked Candice curiously, "Candy, why didn't you mention Valencia tonight? Rhett targeted you, maybe Valencia was behind it all. Valencia was there tonight too, and we just embarrassed her earlier, so maybe..."
"Qiana."
Candice interrupted her. "We don't have any evidence. Although we know from the dashcam that Rhett got a phone call before the accident, the conversation didn't reveal any names, and the content was too brief. We can't prove anything against her. Even if we know in our hearts who's behind him, without evidence, we can't just accuse her directly. And..."
At this point, Candice frowned. "You should know Valencia's position in the Mortimer family."
Qiana fell silent at these words.
Even though Candice was now officially the young lady of the main Mortimer branch, Valencia was still just as much Nolan and Faye’s biological granddaughter.
To put it bluntly, Valencia's status wasn't much lower than Candice's.
Plus, Valencia had grown up in the Mortimer family. Some relatives and elders in the family valued Valencia even more than Candice, who had only recently returned.
So, without any evidence, pointing out Valencia would only make people think Candice was slandering her.
Outsiders would just say the sisters didn't get along.
This wouldn't be good for Candice.
"Besides, if I insist on accusing Valencia, it might cause trouble for my brothers and my parents."
That's what Candice didn't want.
Qiana thought that made sense too.
Even though Valencia and Candice didn't get along, accusing her of attempted murder without proof would likely backfire, making people think Candice was just being spiteful.
Qiana stopped insisting on the accusation and just said, "I hope Valencia really didn't do this, but you still can't let your guard down. Be careful around her from now on."
"I know."
Qiana thought of something else and asked, "Speaking of which, Brandon was so crazy at the racetrack tonight, getting justice for you. Will he be okay? I know no one dares offend him in Seaside City, but Silverlight City is complicated. He's an outside force here after all."
Candice replied somewhat hesitantly, "I'm not sure, but he said he'd be fine. In this country, there probably aren't many who can give him trouble!"
Now that she had calmed down, she had thought about this question too.
Qiana thought that made sense.
Local powers can be intimidating, but since the true extent of the Obelon family's influence was a mystery.
She couldn't help but click her tongue. "His crazy moves tonight were pretty cool. At least Kieran didn't dare do that at the time."
Candice thought of that scene and couldn't help but smile. "Kieran is younger after all. Although he has his methods, he lacks a bit of ruthlessness."
Brandon was different.
Candice had to admit, it was the first time she'd seen Brandon like that.
When he was cold and heartless, he could be as ruthless as they come.
When protecting someone, he was unrestrained, reckless, domineering and intimidating.
These were two extremes - one chilling to the heart, the other touching it.
How did Brandon manage to stir people's hearts no matter what he did?
Because of everything that happened, Candice couldn't stop seeing Brandon every time she closed her eyes to sleep..
She drifted off into a hazy sleep.
When she woke up, it was already the next day, and the weather in Silverlight City had changed.
Last night, Rhett from the White Group had been taken to the police station overnight.
The White Group’s stock went into a freefall overnight, turning the market volatile and scaring off any potential business partners.
The White Group's chairman, Rhett's father, after understanding what happened, quickly called the Mortimer family personally to apologize, hoping for forgiveness, but didn't even get to hear Caspian's voice.
The Mortimer Group didn't even have to get involved; the Talbot family had already lost their temper and taken action.
Sabrina's father, Zephyr Talbot, was famously doting on his daughter, even more so than Gabriel.
Rhett knew it was Sabrina's car and still dared to ram it repeatedly.
The Talbot couple were so furious when they heard the news that they slammed the table, wishing they’d been there to personally give that jerk Rhett what he deserved.
But just because they couldn't beat up Rhett didn't mean they'd let the White Family off.
The Talbot Group directly started attacking the White Group's core businesses.
Everyone in Silverlight City who knew about it understood - the White Family was finished this time.
Even if they didn't go completely bankrupt, they'd at least be kicked out of Silverlight City.
From now on, the White Family wouldn't just struggle to survive in Silverlight City - their business throughout the country would be difficult!
Not to mention, there was still the Mortimer family in the shadows, and the Obelon family.
Being targeted by three families together, the White Family's downfall was inevitable.
