Chapter 245 Brandon: Be Good and Wait for Me!
Candice looked confused.
Anais, sitting across from her, noticed and asked, "What's wrong?"
Candice wasn't quite sure, so she shook her head and said, "Nothing."
However, throughout the meal, she kept thinking about it.
She had a vague guess in her mind, but wasn't sure if it was the person she was thinking of!
Not only that, but Candice also thought of the person who had broken into the research institute last night.
Could it be that they weren't after the drugs, but were coming for her?
Candice couldn't rest easy, so after lunch, she went to find Holden to ask about the investigation.
Holden told her, "The internal members of the research institute should be fine, but a security guard mentioned that a couple of days ago, an electrician came for a routine check of the wiring."
"The research institute has fixed contractors, but they sent a new person this time, saying the previous electrician wasn't feeling well and this electrician was replacing him. I think the problem is probably there."
Hearing this, Candice immediately said, "Go check the surveillance footage and see what he looks like."
Holden nodded, "Don't worry, I've already sent someone to check. We should have results soon."
Just as he was speaking, his subordinate came over and said, "Ms. Elikin, we've pulled up the surveillance footage!"
"Let me see!"
Candice immediately looked at that section of surveillance video.
In the video, the electrician's behavior was indeed suspicious.
Every time he was under a camera, he deliberately kept his head down.
Plus, he was wearing a baseball cap. From other camera angles, Candice still managed to see his face.
Very ordinary, no distinguishing features, the kind of face you'd lose in a crowd.
The day he came to check the wiring, he practically toured the entire research institute.
Candice took a screenshot of his face, thought for a moment, and sent it to Brandon.
Brandon replied shortly after, asking: [Who's this?]
[An electrician who came to check the circuits at the research institute.]
Candice explained the situation to him, then said: [Not sure if this is the person who broke in that night, but the build is similar. You can probably find out faster than we can.]
In Seaside City, Brandon's speed was beyond question.
Brandon felt quite pleased when he saw her message.
Candice was willing to come to him with problems, didn't that count as progress?
He immediately responded: [Okay, wait for my news!]
[Okay!]
After sending the message, Candice continued with her busy work!
In the evening, she rarely finished work early, planning to pick up the kids from kindergarten.
When leaving the research institute, she checked her phone and found that Brandon had already sent the investigation results.
The message included the electrician's information. His name was Dash Cooper, a local from Seaside City. His family had been relocated years ago, and their financial situation was good.
So Dash just naturally became lazy and didn't work, becoming unemployed.
Dash's hobby was celebrity worship.
The information showed he was a fan of Vesper!
After sending the information, Brandon also sent a voice message telling Candice: [I've already sent people to find this Dash's whereabouts, and also reported it to the police, submitted some materials, and got the police involved in the investigation.]
[It should have been this Dash that night. These past few days, try not to go anywhere alone. He didn't succeed last time, so he might try to find you again.]
[I went to a neighboring city on business today, might be ten minutes late getting to you, so wait for me!]
Seeing him reporting his schedule to her, Candice replied: [It's fine, you do what you need to do. I still have Holden and the others protecting me. I'll pick up the kids and go straight home!]
After this message, Brandon didn't reply, probably because he was busy.
Candice didn't send him any more messages either.
After putting away her phone, she left the research institute and had Theo drive her to the kindergarten.
When she arrived, it was right when the kids were getting out of class. The kindergarten entrance was crowded with many cars, children, and parents.
They arrived a bit late, so the car was parked further back.
Holden and the bodyguards who were following behind, although they had come with Candice, were separated by other cars due to the crowding and couldn't keep up closely.
And it was at this moment.
A loud crash, Candice's car was attacked.
A fully disguised man suddenly emerged from the crowd, carrying a baseball bat, and violently smashed it toward the driver's side window.
Theo never expected someone to be this crazy. He had no time to prepare and was hit by the shattered glass, getting cut in many places.
Though Candice was in the back seat, she was also affected. Sharp glass cut her arm, and one piece even lodged into her arm.
Candice felt a sharp pain but didn't have time to cry out. She immediately looked toward the car window.
Almost instantly, she recognized that face - it was the person she'd seen in the surveillance footage during the day, Dash!
His expression was twisted. Candice's heart immediately tensed up.
Ignoring her injury, she reacted quickly and swiftly moved to the other side of the seat.
Dash reacted quickly too. Realizing the driver was an old man and Candice was in the back seat, he immediately changed direction and came to pull the back door.
"Ms. Elikin, run!"
Seeing this, Theo ignored his own injuries and tried to stop Dash.
But because he was still wearing his seatbelt, he couldn't stop him in time.
Moreover, Dash wasn't attacking empty-handed, he had a baseball bat, and his movements were fast. Theo couldn't help at all.
He watched helplessly as the baseball bat swung toward Candice.
"Ms. Elikin!" Theo cried out in alarm.
Candice was a bit panicked too. At the critical moment, she pulled open the door on the other side to get out, but because of her previous leg injury, she stumbled and nearly fell again.
Holden, on the other side, also noticed something was wrong with Candice and quickly got out of the car to rush over.
But at this time, because of Dash's sudden attack, the crowd panicked, and the scene became very chaotic.
Many parents and children were scared into screaming and running around.
This caused Holden to be pushed back by the crowd, delaying him by a few seconds.
Seeing Candice get out from the other door, Dash also chased after her, raising the baseball bat and swinging it hard at Candice.
Candice had just steadied herself and had no way to dodge. She could only watch helplessly as the baseball bat swung down at her.
She instinctively raised her arm, preparing to respond.
However, before she could do anything, a figure flipped through the air and with a flying kick, immediately sent Dash flying.
Dash's whole body fell to the ground.
Holden landed, rushed forward in a few steps, and pinned him down.
Dash still glared in Candice's direction, cursing at her, "Candice, you deserve to die! How dare you ruin Vesper! You ruined my favorite goddess! You deserve to die! You should die!"
Holden was furious and punched Dash, "You die first!"
Dash still tried to struggle, but Holden showed no mercy and simply kicked him unconscious!
