Chapter 243 Hug Her and Kiss Her to Confirm She Is Okay
Holden was nearby, and by the weak light of his phone screen, he saw that Candice was okay and felt relieved.
But seeing Brandon holding Candice right now, his feelings were quite conflicted.
Should he go up and pull them apart or not?
If Ulysses found out, he'd probably beat Brandon up himself again, right?
However, before Holden could finish wrestling with this decision, Candice spoke first, her tone somewhat uncomfortable, "Brandon, let go, you're hurting me!"
Her voice brought Brandon back to his senses, and he finally released her. "How are you? Did that person hurt you?"
His tone was cold and tense.
Candice shook her head and replied, "No, they didn't make it inside. I'm fine."
Just as she finished speaking, she stumbled.
Brandon's voice became anxious, "And you call this fine? Tell the truth, where are you hurt?"
Seeing his serious attitude, Candice could only come clean, saying, "It's not a big deal. It was pitch black, and I accidentally fell."
As soon as she finished speaking, Brandon had already crouched down, using his phone to look at her leg.
Candice's knee was badly bruised, with a large red area.
The color was particularly dark, you could tell at a glance that it was a hard fall.
Brandon barely touched it when Candice immediately pulled away, her tone almost distorted, "It hurts! Don't touch it!"
She then looked at Holden nearby and asked, "Did you catch the person who broke into the research center tonight? What happened?"
Holden quickly answered, "That person seems to be hiding. Our people are searching, but because of the power outage, the surveillance isn't working either, and we have limited emergency lights, so we might not find them."
Candice couldn't help but frown. "Since they dared to break into the research center, it means they were prepared and probably already knew the layout. They might have already left."
Holden nodded and told her, "Don't worry, even so, we'll keep investigating!"
"Okay." Candice nodded.
Just then, the main power seemed to be fixed, and all the lights in the research center suddenly came on.
Candice raised her hand to shield her eyes, still adjusting.
Brandon also took this opportunity to look her over again.
Only after confirming she was really okay did he relax.
After Candice recovered for a moment, her beautiful eyes slowly fell on his handsome face, asking, "Why did you come?"
Brandon's tone was gentle and low, "Seeing you hadn't come back so late, I came to check."
'Good thing I did.'
This last sentence, Brandon didn't say out loud.
But somehow, Candice read this meaning in his eyes.
Her heart stirred slightly, and she didn't respond.
Brandon didn't say anything either, just scooped her up in his arms.
Candice was startled and exclaimed, "What are you doing!"
Brandon let out a breath and said, "Taking you to apply medicine, then going home."
After speaking, he turned back and instructed Holden, "You guys stay tonight to investigate this matter. Make sure to get to the bottom of it, find the person as soon as possible, and don't leave any loose ends!"
"Also, the research center's security needs to be strengthened. Since they dared to come once, they'll dare to come a second time."
"I know."
Holden nodded, "Starting tomorrow, I'll personally protect Ms. Elikin and won't let anything happen to her!"
Brandon nodded, said nothing more, and carried Candice to a nearby chair to sit down.
Then he asked her, "Where's the medicine?"
"Over there." Candice pointed to a desk not far away, saying, "That green bottle will work."
Brandon nodded, walked over in a few steps to get it, skillfully poured some into his palm, then began rubbing and massaging it on Candice.
"I can do it myself."
Candice wanted to do it herself.
But Brandon didn't agree.
His large hand held Candice's leg as he said, "When you're hurt, just sit still. I'll do it."
Candice had experienced his domineering attitude too many times.
At this point, she was too lazy to argue with him and just let him do it.
A few minutes later, after the medicine was applied, Brandon put the bottle aside and looked at her knee, which had turned an even brighter red.
His brow furrowed tightly, his tone worried as he asked, "Does it still hurt a lot?"
Candice shook her head and replied, "Actually, it's okay. I'm not that delicate."
But Brandon wasn't reassured. "It's already swollen. If you don't take care of it, it might get worse. You need to apply medicine on time every day from now on."
After saying this, he asked, "Are you done with work? Should I take you home to rest first?"
"Pretty much done. Let's go home."
After what happened tonight, she wasn't in the mood to finish the remaining tasks, so she didn't refuse Brandon.
Brandon nodded and picked her up again.
On the way back, Candice wasn't feeling well. Sitting in the passenger seat, she fell asleep before long.
Brandon only noticed when they got home.
But he didn't wake her up.
He knew Candice had been working overtime these past days, exhausted every day.
So after parking the car, he got out, walked around to the other side, unbuckled her seatbelt, and carefully carried her out.
Candice was sleeping deeply. Being carried by Brandon, she only shifted positions, leaning against his chest, completely unaware.
When they reached the upstairs bedroom, Brandon put her on the bed, and his movement accidentally jostled her, finally waking Candice up.
Just waking up, her mind was still foggy, her open eyes showing confusion.
Especially when staring at Brandon, her gaze was particularly pure and innocent.
Brandon hadn't planned to take advantage of her, but being looked at with such eyes, his weak self-control vanished instantly.
He lowered his head and kissed her directly.
It took Candice a while to react.
Brandon was taking advantage of her again!
She patted his shoulder, her voice muffled as she protested, "Brandon, when will you stop taking advantage of people?"
Brandon kissed her enough before leaving her lips, his voice low and husky, "Just now you were clearly inviting me, and besides, I wanted to do this back at the research center!"
Only by holding her in his arms and kissing her could he confirm she was still safe and sound.
His eyes deepened, his voice hoarse as he said, "Candice, you absolutely can't let anything happen to you, or what would I do?"
Candice glared at him irritably, "Who cares what you'd do! Brandon, have some shame! Move! I smell like medicine all over, I need to get up and shower!"
Brandon didn't stop her, moving aside, then told her, "I'll stay here tonight."
Candice turned back, looking at him with a puzzled expression, "Why would you stay here?"
Brandon's tone was gentle and low, "That person from tonight hasn't been found yet. We can't rule out that they were coming for you. If they haven't given up and know where you live, and sneak into the villa at night..."
Before he could finish, Candice interrupted, "Are you treating all those bodyguards downstairs like decorations? And if you really stay, my brother could run back from the filming site overnight to beat you up! Those bodyguards outside are all his informants!"
Brandon frowned.
For the first time, he felt that Ulysses's existence was quite troublesome!
He was like a roadblock on Brandon's path to winning Candice back!
