Chapter 240 Only Care About You, You Are My Wife
Kenna nodded, "It must be Brandon's own idea. Otherwise, the Obelon Group wouldn't bother going to such lengths. This doesn't benefit them at all."
Ulysses, listening nearby, glared at Kenna with dissatisfaction and said, "Why did you tell her about this? Brandon is doing all this just to win Candice's favor. Where was he before?"
Then Ulysses turned to Candice and said, "Candice, don't fall for it! This Brandon is no good. He had something going on with that Vesper before, and now he's turned against her just like that. Who knows, he might do the same to you later."
Ulysses meant to warn Candice not to be easily fooled by Brandon.
But Elijah, hearing this, immediately frowned and corrected him, "Uncle Ulysses, that's not true! My dad never had anything with Vesper!"
"Although the two families did talk about some engagement matters, I stopped it all before Mom came back! Dad has no such feelings for Vesper. You must not misunderstand this! "
Ulysses was caught off guard by Elijah and didn't know what to say for a moment.
He had forgotten that the Brandon he called no good was still Elijah's real father.
No wonder Elijah came out to explain when he spoke badly about his dad in front of him.
Candice found Ulysses's speechless look a bit amusing.
But she still reassured him, saying, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
"Alright, just stay away from him."
Hearing their conversation, Elijah couldn't help but start worrying.
With Ulysses having such a bad impression of Brandon, he began to worry that Candice might feel the same way.
After Ulysses and Candice walked away, he immediately called Brandon.
"Do you still want your wife or not?"
Brandon, in the villa across the way, was puzzled when he saw this random message.
"What's wrong?"
After sending the message, Elijah complained, "You haven't come to see Mom in days! If this keeps up, all the good impression you worked so hard to build will be gone! How can you be so half-hearted when pursuing someone?"
Reading this, Brandon could imagine Elijah frowning.
He really was worrying himself sick over adult matters.
Brandon couldn't help but smile and rarely explained, "Your uncle is there, isn't he? It's not convenient for me to show up. Plus, your mom has been busy these past few days. Don't worry, I'll definitely go see her tonight."
Seeing this, Elijah felt relieved.
He didn't forget to remind him, "Then you better do well! Do you know that Uncle Ulysses still hasn't changed his opinion of you? I even had to say good things about you in front of him. I'm really worried sick!"
His adult-like tone made Brandon smile.
But he still gave Elijah face and replied, "Got it."
When night fell and the sky turned completely dark, Brandon watched the lights go out in the villa across the way and finally left his house.
This time, he naturally climbed up to Candice's balcony from downstairs again.
But unexpectedly, just as he landed, he saw Candice collecting laundry on the balcony.
She looked at him with an indescribable expression and said, "You're the president of the Obelon Group. Can you please stop climbing through windows in the middle of the night?"
Brandon said matter-of-factly, "That depends on when you're willing to make my status official."
Candice had gradually gotten used to his suggestive remarks.
Not wanting to respond, she simply ignored it and asked, "What are you here for this time?"
"To see you."
Brandon answered directly, and before Candice could scold him, he added, "And to confirm something. Did the Elikin family come to see you recently? Did they say anything to you?"
Candice's eyes flickered slightly. Thinking of what Kenna said tonight, she wasn't surprised by Brandon's question.
She nodded and replied, "They did come to see me. My brother told me you helped block the news?"
"Yes."
Brandon nodded and said, "They wanted to use what happened back then as leverage again. So what exactly did the Elikin family want from you?"
Even though he admitted it himself, Candice still felt conflicted.
She pressed her lips together, and after a while, she looked at him and asked, "If I tell you, will you believe me?"
Hearing this question, Brandon froze.
He instinctively stared at Candice and saw a hint of distrust in her eyes.
This stung Brandon a bit.
But he also knew why Candice felt this way.
It was because he never cared about or asked about her affairs before.
So today, years later, she had much less trust in him.
Brandon immediately answered, "Tell me, and I'll believe you! Whatever you say, I'll believe you from now on!"
His tone was very sincere.
Looking at his serious eyes, Candice felt a mix of emotions.
When he got serious, his presence was quite convincing.
However, Candice instinctively looked away, not letting herself get too absorbed.
She told Brandon, "Xander asked me for three projects worth tens of billions of dollars each, saying it was compensation for raising me. He threatened that if I didn't give them to him, he would expose my past!"
Brandon understood.
It seemed Uly didn't agree, which led to Xander's subsequent actions.
Brandon didn't say anything because he also thought Uly's approach was right.
Candice asked him in return, "What do you think?"
Brandon was confused.
What did Candice mean by this?
He asked, puzzled, "What should I think?"
Candice didn't beat around the bush and said directly, "The Obelon family and the Elikin family have been family friends for generations. You used the Obelon Group's power to stop Xander. He'll find out soon, and maybe your family will know too."
Hearing this, Brandon immediately frowned and denied, "That's the previous generation's business. It has nothing to do with me!"
He answered without hesitation, and Candice was slightly stunned.
Brandon felt he needed to talk to her properly about the two families.
So he told her directly, "The friendship between our families ended when our marriage ended. The Obelon family has protected the Elikin family enough over the years."
"All things considered, I didn't hold them accountable for what they did, which was already generous enough."
"From now on, whatever happens to them has nothing to do with me. Compared to that, what I care more about is my relationship with you!"
Candice's emotions surged.
In the past, she never would have dreamed she could hear these words from Brandon's mouth.
Candice couldn't help but sigh, "Brandon, you've really changed. Now you're sweet-talking. My brother told me to be careful not to be fooled, and I think he's right!"
After saying this, Candice turned and went inside with the laundry.
Brandon thought she was upset again and quickly grabbed her, defending himself, "Your brother means well, but he's not always right about everything. Don't just listen to him about everything. At least when facing me, you don't need to be on guard."
Candice looked back at him with a half-smile and said, "Just based on you sneaking into a woman's room in the middle of the night, I shouldn't be on guard? Brandon, do you even believe what you're saying?"
Brandon was stumped for a moment, but quickly said calmly, "I have my reasons. According to Elijah, I need to keep a close eye on my wife and not be half-hearted."
Candice originally wanted to hear what other excuses he could come up with.
But after hearing this, her ears immediately burned.
Because the term "wife" he used was something she never heard him say, even when they weren't divorced!
Now they had no relationship at all, yet he dared to talk such nonsense!
Candice's face flushed with embarrassment, and she couldn't help but deny, "Who's your wife?"
