Chapter 236 Candice, You Can Only Be Mine!
Candice stared in shock as Brandon jumped off the balcony. In that instant, her heart leaped into her throat, and she rushed forward to look.
She saw him land steadily on the ground, completely unharmed.
Candice breathed a sigh of relief, but also thought he was absolutely crazy!
Did he really think he was Superman or had superpowers?
She went back to her room, grabbed her phone in annoyance, and sent him a message.
[Next time, if you hurt your leg or break it, don't expect me to treat you!]
When Brandon saw the message, the corners of his mouth curved up in amusement. He slowly typed back: [I'll bring a ladder next time.]
Candice was furious.
[There won't be a next time! I'm locking my door every night from now on! Don't think you'll ever get into my room again!]
Brandon just chuckled softly and didn't take her words seriously.
Candice looked at the messages, feeling exhausted. She tossed her phone aside and went to sleep.
The next day.
After breakfast, Candice wanted to go to the research institute—staying at home was too boring.
But remembering Anais's warning, she felt frustrated again.
She could only discuss it with Ulysses. "Ulysses, can you do something about those reporters at the research institute? If they keep staking out there, I won't be able to go to work."
She didn't care so much about herself, but she was worried those reporters hanging around would affect others at the institute too.
Ulysses was replying to some work messages. Hearing her question, he told her, "Don't worry, Kenna already handled it. You can go to work without any concerns."
"That fast?" Candice felt relieved hearing this.
Ulysses nodded and said, "Kenna dealt with it yesterday, but I was so tired that I crashed and forgot to tell you."
"Okay then, I'll head to work and drop the two little ones off at school."
"Alright, be careful on the road."
Ulysses waved at them.
The two kids obediently said goodbye to him. "Bye, Uncle Ulysses!"
Then they put on their little backpacks and bounced out the door following Candice.
The Elikin Group.
Xander waited all night for a reply from Candice, but instead received notice of Vesper's penalty payment first.
Because of the public opinion backlash, Vesper was forced to terminate her contracts and was now liable for eighty million dollars in damages!
Such a huge sum was an astronomical amount for Vesper.
The Elikin family's current situation couldn't support her spending like this at all.
When Xander found out, his expression changed completely.
"How can it be this much?"
Vesper said through tears, "It's because my company won't help me. They're saying I wasted company resources instead. They said since the contracts were canceled because of me, I have to pay the compensation myself!"
After hearing this, Xander's anger flared up. "Flora has some nerve! Does she really think the Elikin family can't make a comeback?"
Vesper asked him anxiously, "Dad, what should I do now?"
Xander was actually a bit angry facing Vesper's plea for help.
His tone wasn't very pleasant as he said, "With such a huge mess, naturally, you need to find ways to minimize the losses! What good does crying do? Right now, we can only wait for the right opportunity."
"One is waiting for Candice's reply, and the other is waiting for Mrs. Opal Obelon's birthday banquet at the Obelon family!"
"As long as you win over Brandon and get pregnant with his child, then have a shotgun wedding, forget eighty million dollars—even eight hundred million would be nothing."
"But for now, don't just sit around. Find ways to reduce the penalty payment yourself, by whatever means necessary! Otherwise, if something goes wrong with the plan, no one will be able to bail you out!"
Xander meant he couldn't help her cover this penalty payment either.
Vesper understood what he meant, and her heart sank.
Before she knew it, the morning had passed.
Xander still hadn't received any calls.
His expression grew darker and darker until he finally couldn't help but call Candice himself.
However, Candice didn't answer at all.
Unable to reach Candice no matter what, Xander was going crazy with frustration.
He sent Candice another message.
[Answer the phone! Are you really not afraid we'll expose what you did?]
Candice saw his threatening message but didn't reply.
She took a screenshot and forwarded it directly to Ulysses.
[Work without worry, I'll handle this.]
After Ulysses saw the message and reassured Candice, he called Xander directly.
Hearing the phone ring, Xander thought Candice was scared and immediately answered.
Before he could speak, he heard Ulysses's voice.
Ulysses spoke in a casual tone. "Mr. Elikin, Candice told me you want three projects from Ascend Global Holdings and two other groups. I can give them to you, but it will take time!"
"Because I've contacted the people in charge of these companies—some are on business trips, some are on vacation. Getting their signatures will take at least a day or two."
"But I also have a requirement. I hope you won't reveal anything about Candice's past!"
Xander's expression lit up. He said happily, "Looks like you're more reasonable! Don't worry, as long as you give me those three projects, I won't leak anything about what happened back then!"
Ulysses smiled. "Well, thank you so much, Mr. Elikin. Rest assured, in a few days, I'll definitely deliver the 'big gift'!"
He emphasized the words "big gift" heavily, making it sound like he was truly grateful.
But only Kenna, who was in front of Ulysses, could clearly see the murderous look in his eyes!
Kenna couldn't help but shake his head.
The Elikin family really didn't know what was good for them!
After Candice sent the message to Ulysses, she didn't pay any more attention to the matter.
In the evening, after finishing work, she went to pick up Elijah and Yasmin.
After getting in the car, Elijah told her some news. "I might go to Great-grandma's house for dinner tonight. Will you come with me, Mom? Great-grandma asked me to invite you and Yasmin. She said she had the chef prepare lots of dishes we love!"
Hearing this news, Candice looked a bit hesitant.
To be honest, she didn't really want to go.
But seeing Elijah's eyes full of anticipation, she couldn't refuse. So she asked Yasmin, "Do you want to go?"
"There's a feast? Of course I'm going!"
Food-loving Yasmin agreed without thinking.
Before Candice came to pick them up, she already knew about this and was really looking forward to it.
Seeing Yasmin say this, Candice could only agree. "Alright then, let's go."
She sent Orla a message saying they wouldn't be home for dinner, then took the two kids directly to the Obelon Manor.
When they arrived, Brandon had just gotten there too, waiting for them to get out of the car together.
"Dad!" Elijah ran up to him to say hello.
Brandon patted his head but kept his eyes on Candice. "Let's go. Grandma is already waiting for us to have dinner."
Candice just nodded slightly and walked straight in holding Yasmin's hand.
Seeing Opal again, Candice didn't have the cold expression she showed Brandon. She actively greeted Opal, calling out, "Mrs. Obelon."
"You're finally here. I've been waiting all afternoon."
Opal smiled happily, invited Candice to sit down, and showed her concern. "I saw the news from a few days ago, too, Candice. The media reporters were just making things up, talking nonsense. Don't take it to heart."
Candice understood Opal was concerned about her, so she smiled and said, "I didn't take it to heart. Everything's been resolved!"
"That's good." Opal nodded.
Butler Kian soon came to say dinner was ready, and she invited Candice and the children to eat together.
After dinner, Opal had the servants bring out toys for Yasmin and Elijah to play with.
These were all newly bought. Candice didn't know this at first, but she saw there were Barbie dolls among the toys—toys for girls.
Candice was quite surprised. "You bought new toys for Yasmin, too?"
Opal smiled and said, "Yes, I really like Yasmin. I couldn't forget her after meeting her just once! So I bought toys for both of them."
"I see. That's very thoughtful of you."
Candice's expression softened. Yasmin was also Opal's great-granddaughter. Although she hadn't told them, seeing that Opal also liked Yasmin naturally made her happy.
The two kids played nearby while Candice made coffee.
