Chapter 162 Stirring Up Trouble!
Though Qiana was worried, she still told Candice, "Candice, if there's anything you need help with later, just tell me! I'll definitely help you!"
Candice naturally understood her kindness.
With red-rimmed eyes, she nodded and said in a choked voice, "Okay."
Seeing her like this, Qiana felt terrible. She stepped forward to hug her again and said, "Come on, don't cry anymore. Let's go see Elijah first! You two can finally be reunited as mother and son! Elijah will be so happy when he finds out you're his mom!"
Candice nodded, following Qiana's lead.
Since she wasn't in any condition to drive, she sat in the passenger seat and let Qiana take her to the kindergarten.
Along the way, Candice couldn't help but recall the time she'd spent with Elijah recently, and her heart ached wave after wave.
Especially when she thought about what Elijah had said last night.
He said, "My mom probably doesn't want me anymore. She left for good and isn't planning to come back."
She couldn't help feeling awful, like someone had carved a hole in her chest. It hurt so much.
She had never abandoned her child!
When she learned her baby had died back then, she was so devastated that she nearly suffered from postpartum depression.
He was her precious treasure.
Candice's eyes reddened again.
Qiana knew her emotions were running high, but there wasn't much she could say. She could only reach over with one hand while waiting at a red light to pat her comfortingly, "Candice, don't get too worked up. You'll scare the child if you're like this."
"Besides, I was just thinking—you probably don't need to worry about Elijah being taken away by the Obelon family right now."
"Think about it, Brandon went on a business trip and felt comfortable leaving Elijah with you. Doesn't that mean he wants you and Elijah to spend time together? So he probably wants you two to recognize each other."
However, Candice's emotions were too volatile right now to think through all this carefully.
All she knew was that her child had been stolen from her!
And that was something she simply couldn't accept.
Candice wiped her tears, took a deep breath, and said, "When he gets back, I'm going to demand an explanation from him!"
Seeing her say this, Qiana didn't say anything more.
Soon, they arrived at the kindergarten.
It was pickup time, and there were quite a few parents at the kindergarten entrance picking up their children.
After unbuckling her seatbelt, Candice couldn't wait to get out of the car to pick up her two children.
But when she got inside the kindergarten, she only saw Yasmin by herself. Elijah, who was usually inseparable from the little girl, was nowhere to be seen.
Candice froze for a moment, then quickly stepped forward and asked, "Yasmin, why are you alone? Where's Elijah?"
When Yasmin saw Candice, she pouted, clearly unhappy, and said, "Mommy, I was just about to tell you about this!
Elijah's grandma came and took him away. She said Elijah has recovered and can go home now.
Elijah didn't want to go with her, but she forced him into the car anyway."
When Candice heard this, her expression darkened.
She hadn't expected Brielle to cause trouble at a time like this!
She'd arrived one step too late, and Elijah had been taken away by Brielle!
Candice had already been harboring anger toward the Obelon family, and after hearing this news, her fury was ignited.
Taking her child away without a word again!
If this had happened before, she would have asked about it at most, but wouldn't have interfered with Brielle's actions.
But now, knowing Elijah's identity, she naturally wouldn't allow the Obelon family to take the child away again!
Candice's anger shot straight up.
She reassured Yasmin, "Don't worry, Mommy will bring Elijah back. You go home with Qiana first."
Qiana, standing nearby with furrowed brows, couldn't help asking worriedly, "Candice, what are you planning to do?"
Candice's eyes were ice-cold as she said, "I'm going straight to the Obelon Manor to demand they return him! If they don't give Elijah back to me, then don't blame me for not being nice!"
After saying this, Candice randomly hailed a car on the street and headed straight to the Obelon Manor.
However, when she arrived at the Obelon Manor, she didn't see Brielle or Elijah—she only saw Sterling.
The servants at the Obelon Manor hadn't been able to stop Candice from barging in, and now they looked at Sterling somewhat helplessly.
Sterling didn't blame them and waved for the servants to leave first.
He then looked at the aggressive Candice.
"Why are you in such a rush to come here? What happened?"
Sterling's attitude was fairly decent.
But Candice's voice was cold as she said, "Elijah's condition still hasn't fully recovered. Mrs. Obelon disregarded his wishes and forcibly took him away. If Elijah has another episode later, who's going to take responsibility?"
From this sentence, Sterling understood what had happened.
He hadn't expected Brielle to start causing trouble again after only a few quiet days!
"Don't worry, let me call and ask about the situation."
After reassuring Candice, he called Brielle.
When Brielle heard on the phone that Candice had come to the Obelon Manor to demand the child back, her voice went up several notches!
"Elijah is our family's child to begin with. Brandon let her take care of Elijah for a few days, and she really thinks Elijah belongs to her family now?"
"I'm taking my own grandson, visiting my own grandson—do I need her permission?"
Candice heard everything Brielle said, and her expression grew extremely dark!
Seeing Candice's poor expression, Sterling also sternly scolded Brielle, "Aren't you being too reckless? Elijah hasn't fully recovered yet! Bring him back right now!"
Brielle said unhappily, "He's already recovered. I've been watching him all this time, and he's clearly fine."
"Anyway, I've brought the child back, and there's no way I'm letting her touch him again! I have to go now, the party here is about to start!"
"Vesper happens to be here tonight too. I'm taking this opportunity to set the record straight—Vesper is the future wife of our Obelon family heir, and she'll become Elijah's mother in the future. This should stop certain people from clinging to false hopes."
Sterling frowned, about to say something more, but Brielle hung up directly.
After hearing Brielle's last words, Candice's murderous aura practically radiated from her.
Make her child call Vesper "mom"?
Did Vesper deserve that?
Candice didn't say another word. She immediately turned and left the Obelon Manor.
After leaving, she made a phone call directly.
"Holden, bring people and meet up with me!"
Holden Harrison was the personal bodyguard that the Mortimer family had assigned to Candice.
When she came to Seaside City this time, Holden had come along too!
It's just that Candice usually felt she didn't need him, so she hadn't had him follow her around.
This time, however, she gave an order that brooked no argument!
After hearing this, Holden respectfully asked, "Ms. Elikin, what happened? What do you need me to do?"
Candice's voice carried an extremely cold and forceful tone as she said, "I'm going to start some trouble! Bring plenty of people!"
