Chapter 145 Do You Still Like Him?
"Right, the Obelon Group."
Ulysses's voice continued, "Candice, don't you think you owe me an explanation about this? When you went to Seaside City this time, we all thought you were focusing on your own research and development, so we didn't ask too many questions. But why are you getting involved again with the person who let you down before?"
At this point, Ulysses's tone became stern yet worried, "How long has this been going on?"
Suddenly being confronted about her situation with Brandon, Candice wasn't mentally prepared and immediately panicked, like a child caught doing something wrong.
She hurriedly replied, "This was an accident. I can explain. Please don't be angry."
Her tone was a bit rushed as she said this.
Only after blurting it out did she realize that the other person involved was still right there on the phone.
She couldn't discuss him in front of Brandon, so she quickly got up and walked to the side.
Brandon had been watching her the whole time. Seeing that she even needed to avoid him to take a phone call, his face immediately darkened, an indescribable anger churning inside him.
If her somewhat intimate tone earlier wasn't enough to make him overthink things, then her flustered "don't be angry" just now carried a special meaning!
Realizing that Candice was actually afraid of making another man angry, Brandon's expression turned very sour.
He suddenly remembered the men's pajamas she had given him at her house last time.
So, Candice already had someone she was involved with?
Was that why she kept trying to keep her distance from him?
Brandon's eyes instantly darkened to the extreme.
He couldn't calmly listen to her chatting with another man. Rage and an unknown jealousy surged violently in his chest.
Finally, he turned abruptly and stormed out, slamming the door.
Candice was by the floor-to-ceiling window, explaining the current situation to Ulysses.
"After I came to Seaside City, I didn't actively seek out Brandon. The only reason we got entangled was purely because of a medical case. I didn't know at first that the patient the hospital director recommended was him, so that's why..."
"This really was an accident. As for what happened after, we just ran into each other by chance. After all, we move in similar social circles, so it's hard to avoid..."
Candice tried to downplay things as much as possible.
Ulysses sounded somewhat helpless on the other end.
He seemed to sense her nervousness and sighed, saying, "I'm not blaming you. It's just that, Candice, you know that Dad, Mom, Caspian, Finnegan, and I are all afraid you'll get hurt and bullied again."
"I know."
Candice nodded, "You're all concerned about me. But don't worry, no matter what, I can still protect myself."
"How can we not worry with you there alone?"
Ulysses wasn't reassured at all and immediately said, "Even if you're not as easy to bully as before, there are still people who don't know better and will have bad intentions. Didn't something just happen this time? No, I think I need to come to Seaside City myself!"
"What?"
Candice thought she'd heard wrong and asked in surprise, "You're coming to Seaside City?"
Ulysses confirmed, "What? Don't want me to come?"
Candice immediately shook her head in denial, "No, that's not what I meant. It's just, Ulysses, aren't you really busy?"
Ulysses went with the flow, "I am busy, with a packed schedule every day. I was originally planning to go somewhere else to film a variety show, but now I've changed my mind and switched the location to Seaside City. I need to see you in person to feel at ease!"
Seeing that he'd made up his mind, Candice felt her scalp tingle but didn't dare resist.
She could only ask quietly, "So do Mom, Dad, and Caspian know about what's going on with me here?"
Ulysses understood what she was worried about and actually laughed, "How could they know? If they knew, they would have run over there themselves to bring you back. How could they let you stay there?"
Only then did Candice breathe a slight sigh of relief.
"That's good then."
Ulysses found it amusing, "What? If I hadn't discovered this, were you planning to just keep hiding it?"
"Not really."
Candice mumbled back, "It's mainly that I figured once I finish things here, I'll go back, so there was no need to mention it and make everyone worry for nothing."
Ulysses didn't seem to believe her.
He asked, "Really? Why do I feel like you still... Candice, in your heart, do you still like that guy..."
Before he could finish, Candice immediately denied it, "No!"
Because she responded too hastily, it actually made things between her and Brandon seem unusual.
Ulysses noticed, and his heart immediately sank.
He was about to say something when he heard a loud noise from her end.
His heart jumped, and he immediately asked, "What was that sound?"
Candice was also startled. She turned to look but found that Brandon had already left.
That sound just now must have been him closing the door.
What was wrong with him?
Why was he losing his temper out of nowhere?
Candice looked completely baffled.
However, thinking about what Ulysses had just said about the Obelon Group helping her, she still needed to thank Brandon.
She collected her thoughts and said to Ulysses, "It's nothing. Ulysses, I have something to take care of here. I'll talk to you later. If there's anything, we'll communicate then."
Seeing her say this, Ulysses didn't say much more, just reminded her, "Go home and rest early. Don't work too hard."
"Okay, I know. Bye!" Candice obediently agreed, then hung up the phone.
After putting away her phone, she immediately left the office to chase after Brandon.
But unexpectedly, just those few dozen seconds late, and Brandon was already nowhere to be seen outside.
He left so fast!
Candice grumbled to herself.
Since she couldn't catch up to him, she didn't call Brandon either.
Anyway, he would come see Elijah tomorrow morning, so they'd definitely meet.
Although she'd promised Ulysses she'd go home early, by the time she actually got off work and went home, it was almost midnight.
Early the next morning.
The two little ones asked Candice with concern at the dining table, "Candice, are the news stories online affecting you a lot? Don't be sad."
Yesterday's news had spread all over the internet, and they'd seen it too.
Both of them were very worried about Candice.
But even waiting until very late, they hadn't seen her come back.
Elijah, beside them, also looked concerned and comforted her, "Candice, we all believe you. There must be a misunderstanding. The truth will come out! Don't be sad. You still haveYasmin and me."
Receiving the two little ones' concern first thing in the morning, Candice felt warmth in her heart.
She reached out to pat both their heads and said, "I'm not sad. Don't believe what's said online—it's not completely true. I'm already handling this matter, and it should be over soon. Don't worry."
Elijah nodded and said to her, "Candice, if it's really troublesome, just ask Dad for help! He can definitely help you handle it!"
"Okay!"
Candice didn't refuse him. After ruffling his hair, she unconsciously glanced outside.
Usually at this time, Brandon would definitely come over.
But this morning, he still hadn't appeared. What was going on?
