Chapter 209 209 Our Day
Chapter 209 209 Our Day
After the bright wave, about twenty minutes later Darius contacted Kays, sounding completely bewildered. No surprise—three adult members of the royal family and a little girl were wandering the palace in utter shock, while the child ran around cheerfully, chattering with delight.
Hearing this, Kays froze for a moment, and I saw his breathing hitch with emotion.
“Darius, give them the communicator,” my beloved asked. A couple of seconds later, a hologram of a little girl appeared, smiling from ear to ear.
“Sabi…” Kays’s voice trembled, and the girl’s smile grew even wider. “Little sister… it really is you…”
“Kays! My favorite big brother! When are you coming back?” the little girl rattled on in a clear, ringing voice. Then holograms of the rest of the family appeared as well.
“And how does this thing even work?” Kays’s father grumbled, poking at something with his finger. “Always inventing nonsense…”
“Father! Mother! Viel!” I saw my dark-haired man’s eyes grow wet. “You’re alive…”
“Karadeylis, my dear, what on earth happened?” Dalila asked gently, studying us. “We don’t understand… everything is so different…”
“I’ll explain everything,” my beloved promised.
He told them what had happened—without going into details. Laverna hadn’t cursed them, just as he hadn’t, and even we still didn’t know how it all came to be. The most important thing was that they were back and alive.
Kays told them that he was getting married tomorrow and introduced me to his family. They were shocked by everything, but he said that once we returned home, he’d explain it all properly. The family talked for a long time, and they made Kays promise there would be another wedding in Virolia—with everyone present… resurrected and in keeping with family traditions.
“Kays,” I said to my beloved fiancé, “we could postpone the wedding for a couple of weeks so your family can come.”
“Oh no,” the man grumbled. “The wedding is tomorrow, and you’re not wriggling out of it. I know you too well—sooner is better. And besides, you don’t really have a choice anymore. You’re completely mine.”
“And I wasn’t trying to wriggle out,” I puffed my lips theatrically. “I was just suggesting…”
“Besides, tomorrow you’ll be proclaimed Queen of Zergedia, and back home you’ll become Queen of Virolia as well. A second coronation is unavoidable anyway.”
Closer to evening, we finally saw our long-awaited newly formed couple. Laverna was shy, constantly lowering her eyes—we all knew exactly how the curse had been lifted today. She kept blushing and almost hiding behind Anton, who hadn’t let go of her hand for a single minute. They were glowing with happiness, unable to tear their loving gazes away from each other.
“About time it finally clicked for you!” I barked at Anton, then hugged the shy beauty. “We’re so happy for you! And we have some great news!”
Laverna looked at me intently, then lit up with a radiant smile—so unfamiliar. Gods, she’s beautiful.
“Oh! Congratulations!” the green-eyed girl hugged me, then glanced at Kays and faltered awkwardly. “Um… not that—well, never mind. What’s the news?”
Kays pulled out the communicator, and the entire Bretyan family appeared before us once again.
“Lavi!” the little girl squealed. “Mom, Dad, Viel! Look—it’s our Lavi!”
Laverna couldn’t immediately process what she was seeing, and tears welled up in her eyes.
“Sabi, my little doll… you’re alive…”
Leaving the device with her, we gave Laverna and Anton privacy with her family. Now it was the turn of the adopted sister to talk to her loved ones alone.
And then our special day arrived.
If before I hadn’t been nervous about the wedding at all, now—seeing how many people were gathering—my nerves finally gave out.
Gerald had truly outdone himself and spared no expense for my wedding and coronation. He loved lavish celebrations, and this was the perfect excuse.
Huge festive tents, hundreds of tables overflowing with food, and even more guests. Everyone was arriving—artists, musicians, cooks, servants—and as for the guests, don’t even get me started. Anyone who wasn’t afraid of the All-Seeing One’s gaze didn’t miss the chance to witness her wedding. And there were many of them.
In the morning, Iolanta and Laverna burst into my room and shoved Kays out the door. Then a whole swarm of girls rushed in and began fussing over me.
