After Diana changed and came out, they set an extra place at the table and invited her to join them for dinner.
Dione, still curious, asked, "Didn't you two get divorced? Why were you arguing here?"
Diana took a sip of water and summed it up, "Property dispute. My company's in his hands. It's going bankrupt, and I want to buy it back, but he won't sell."
Tony and Dione, having seen a lot, knew that upper-class divorces always involved big asset transfers.
Dione, always interested in gossip, asked, "How much did you get in the settlement? Half?"
"She probably won't get anything. Mr. Percy is the boss. No one from the Percy Family ever got the better of him," Tony said bluntly. It wasn't that he looked down on Diana, but Charles was tough and never took a loss.
Tony was right.
Diana's expression changed at the mention of the Percy Family. She thought Tony might know something useful. Charles's past was a mystery to her.
Diana said dejectedly, "Yeah, my company's entirely in his hands. It's the result of generations of my family's hard work, and now it's gone."
She ate her food, feeling down. Tony and Dione exchanged a glance and sighed. They were too insignificant compared to Charles.
The only person who could help Diana now was the deceased Juniper. Yes, Juniper.
Tony suddenly put down his utensils and said to Dione, "Dione, remember that gemstone Mrs. Percy gave to Mr. Percy? Later, he was kidnapped, and the gemstone was taken. It still hasn't been found."
Dione frowned, thinking. There was indeed such an incident. The gemstone was valuable, passed down from the Percy Family. Charles was only a teen, and Juniper, who adored him, gave it to him early. Charles was kidnapped, rescued, but the gemstone was lost, and the kidnappers were never caught.
Dione replied, "Yeah, I remember. That gemstone was valuable. Why bring it up now?"
Tony continued, "If we could find that gemstone, maybe we could negotiate with Mr. Percy."
Dione said, "It's been years. If it could be found, Mr. Percy would have found it by now. Diana, don't listen to his nonsense." she glared at Tony, thinking he was getting more muddled with age.
Tony muttered, "Yeah, if it could be found, he would've found it by now."
But Diana remembered their words. If it was valuable, the kidnappers wouldn't lose it. According to Tony, the kidnappers were never caught. Either Charles was too busy to find them, or they escaped overseas, making it hard for Charles to track them.
Diana pondered the possibility that if the kidnappers used the gemstone for money, it wouldn't enter a market where Charles could find it. It was likely sold to a private buyer through the Dark Web. Regardless, she planned to try, as it might be her last chance to save the Spencer Group.
Tony and Dione didn't pay much attention. Dione felt a bit regretful, thinking it was just a marital quarrel. If that were the case, she could have tried to persuade Charles. Though they were just servants of the Percy Family, they had taken care of three generations, so Charles still respected them.
Tony and Dione didn't have kids and had planned to retire to the countryside. But a few years back, Dione got sick and needed a lot of money for treatment. Juniper stepped in, paid for everything, and even gave them a nice settlement.
Grateful, Tony and Dione volunteered to guard Juniper's grave after she passed. Despite being gravekeepers, they lived pretty comfortably.
The Percy Family cemetery was in a beautiful, remote location. Hardly anyone visited, so their job was mostly cleaning up fallen leaves and wiping tombstones.
Charles still paid them a salary every month and arranged regular health check-ups, making their retirement quite comfortable.
However, Tony and Dione had mixed feelings about Charles. They were grateful but also felt he had become ruthless, which pained them. Luckily, they only saw him a few times a year, so their conflicting feelings were manageable.
Seeing Diana today, they realized Charles was indeed very bad.
After dinner, Diana asked Tony for a phone charger.
Once her phone powered on, it was flooded with messages from Robert, all expressing concern.
Feeling a warmth in her heart, Diana called him back. Robert answered almost immediately, sounding anxious, "Hello? Diana, are you okay? Where are you?"
Diana replied, "I'm fine, but it's a long story. Robert, can you help me look into a case?"
Robert, initially very worried, relaxed upon hearing her normal voice. Every time Diana went to see Charles, it never ended well. Last time, she was gone for three days, and this time, there had been no news for an entire day.
But hearing her call, Robert felt relieved. He grabbed a pen and paper and asked, "Sure, tell me. I have friends at the police station, but I'm not sure if they can access the files."
Diana didn't plan to have Robert investigate thoroughly; she just needed some details. Once she contacted people within the organization, it would be easier to find.
Diana said, "I want to know about the kidnapping case of the Percy Group heir."
Robert paused, doubting what he had heard, "What did you say?"
'Isn't she supposed to ask Charles to spare the Spencer Family? How does it turn into investigating a case?' Robert wondered.
Diana knew Robert was surprised but didn't explain, "I need you to look into all the kidnapping cases involving the Percy Group heir. This is very important to me. I'll explain the details when we meet."
Robert jotted it down without further questions. "Okay, anything else?"
"Yes, come to the Percy Family cemetery to pick me up tomorrow morning. I can't get a cab here, and I can't get back. Or I can send you my location, and you can call a cab for me," Diana said.
Robert was stunned again, unable to imagine what Diana had gone through today. But his tone remained calm and reassuring. "Okay, I'll pick you up at nine tomorrow. Get some rest and don't overthink."
Diana hung up the phone and lay on the bed, thinking about what to do next. She needed to make good use of her previous resources. The original Diana's identity was practically useless. Since her rebirth, she had stepped into one trap after another. She had intended to seek revenge on those two bastards. But she had unluckily encountered Charles, another bastard.
As she thought about it, Diana's consciousness gradually blurred, and she fell asleep.
