Chapter 59 The Allies
After dinner, everyone was more relaxed. We trained as usual and no fights broke out. I told Dad that we should throw in some fun every once in a while to keep morale high and the fights to a minimum. He agreed.
While we were training, the fae started to arrive. We stopped for a moment and welcomed them to the territory. We turned the school’s gym into a barracks of sorts and set them up there. Tomorrow they would train with us.
We went back to training. I heard a few people grumble about the fae being here, but they got quiet as I approached them and I let it go.
Day Three
I woke up and got dressed. I was going to head over to the school and help make breakfast for the fae, but when I got there, they were already eating. I found Phoenix and joined him for breakfast. Taylor was there, too. I told them the plan for the day and they thought it was a good plan. Every group of wolves would get a fae to help them. Since only a few fae warriors came, this would work. There were more than enough of them to work with our pack. Enough to work with at least two more packs our size.
While we waited for everyone to finish breakfast, our first wolf allies showed up ready to go. We got them setup in the gym as well. They had already eaten breakfast on their way here. So by the time they got settled we were ready to start training.
After training, I got acquainted with the Beta of their pack. Their Alpha stayed behind. They were a good pack to have as allies. We were actually related. They split off from Hyacintho Lunar about two hundred years ago when twin sons were born to the Alpha. The pack was split between them when their father died. They were the Blue Moon pack and they settled just north of the Green Mountains.
Just before lunch, the Verdant Valley pack showed up. Their territory was west of the Green Mountains. We got them setup in the gym and then went to have lunch. We did lunch BBQ style today. We ate at Cedar Park where there were plenty of picnic tables and grills already setup. The fae got a game of Facdow (fa-doe) going, so while we waited on the food to be cooked, we watched them play.
After lunch, our witch allies from Vera Fides arrived. The built themselves a temporary barracks near the packhouse. Once they were settled, we paired them up with groups of wolves just as we did with the fae. We had enough witches to put two with most groups and three with the ones that didn’t get a second fae. Once all the groups were set, we began training.
Training didn’t go as smoothly. Most of the wolves had never fought side by side with witches and fae or vampires for that matter. So there was a lot of hostility we had to deal with before we could be successful. After we got everyone under control and worked out the issues people were having, things seemed to go pretty well. Our fae and witch allies had helped in the fight against Khenzu and were pretty comfortable around each other. Our wolf allies were comfortable around each other but not so much around our magical friends. Though they didn’t seem to mind sharing sleeping quarters.
After training, we did some getting-to-know-you games while Mom and Dad and a few others got dinner going. We also did some trust exercises. I wanted everyone to work and get along well with each other so we wouldn’t have as many casualties in the fight. It was important for them to trust each other.
Day Four
I started my day the same as usual. I helped make breakfast and ate. Afterwards, everyone was ready for training.
Lunam Deam, our other witch allies and Taylor’s coven, were scheduled to arrive around lunch today. I knew Taylor was excited to see Mary again. Excitement was all over Taylor’s face. I had to admit I was a little excited myself. Mary was a funny person. I loved the way she spoke, kind of sing-song, she had a rhythmic cadence in her voice.
After training, we had leisure time. Dad and I decided we would do this periodically to stave off any fighting due to the stressfulness of the situation. Today we were having a football game between the packs, Blue Moon and Verdant Valley versus Hyacintho Lunar. We held the game on the school’s football field. Not everyone wanted to attend the game, so we also opened the bowling alley and movie theater. Everyone had time to relax a little before lunch.
Lunam Deam arrived just as the game ended. They, too, set up temporary quarters near the packhouse. Then we all ate lunch in the park.
“EJ, my favorite king, how are you, my boy,” Mary asked.
“I’m doing well, Miss Mary. How are you,” I replied.
“I am fabulous, my boy. Where is Taylor? I was hoping to see him. I have some news he will want to hear.”
“Taylor might be over there with Dad. I know Dad had wanted to talk to Taylor also.”
“Thank you, dear. I will find him.” And with that she walked away.
When lunch was finished, I helped with the clean up. Then it was time for more training. With the new group of witches, the small groups got a little bigger. The groups were pretty even for the most part.
Mary was great. She joined my group. While I was running in for an attack, I tripped and fell on my face. Everyone was laughing, and I couldn’t help it, I laughed ,too. Mary had tripped me by bringing a root just above the ground in front of me. I of course didn’t see it and tripped. I wiped the blood from my lip and got up. It was a lesson well learned by all of us. To expect the unexpected.
After training, we gathered in the park once again for dinner. The Fae were cooking tonight. It was sure to be delicious. Not that Mom’s and Dad’s meals aren’t. After dinner we all settled down for the night. We set a bonfire up and roasted marshmallows. Some of the older folks told stories about battles long past. They were very good stories. I remembered reading about some of them in the library when I was little. A few hours after sunset, we called it a night and everyone went to their quarters to shower and sleep.
Day Five
There was a loud boom outside the packhouse, it woke me from my sleep. It woke everyone from their sleep. I ran to my window to see what had happened. I saw Mary and Taylor practicing magic in the yard below. Did they really need to practice this early? It was like four in the morning. I got dressed and went downstairs to ask them.
“You’re waking everyone up with whatever you’re doing,” I said.
“Sorry, dear. That last spell went a little not as intended,” Mary said.
“Yeah, sorry. I mispronounced one of the words, my bad,” Taylor said.
“Well, since I’m up…What are you two working on?”
“Were working on the spell you gave me to stop the Blood King from teleporting,” Taylor said.
“Oh, and you blew it up. That was a loud boom,” I replied.
“Yeah, I guess if I mess it up it might kill him or it will make him angry if it doesn’t,” Taylor said.
“It probably won’t kill him,” Mary said.
“I’ll go get started on breakfast. See you guys later,” I said.
The rest of the day went pretty much the same as the others.
