Chapter 55 Blood King

I gathered all the information I could find on the Blood King. What I couldn’t get myself, I had the other councils send me. The Blood King dates back to the mid to late fourteen hundreds. It is said he was a relative of Vlad the third Dracul or was Vlad himself. Whether those rumors were true, I had yet to verify. I was waiting for a few more documents from the European council. Asia and the Middle East say he was a relative. Africa says he was Vlad the Impaler. Last year I learned a little bit about him in history class. He was ruthless. The history books say he was assassinated in fourteen seventy-six. So if the Blood King is indeed Vlad Dracul, he must have been a vampire by then. The people of that time already thought he was a vampire anyway.

While I waited for the other documents to come from Europe, I studied up on Vlad the third. He was a king in Romania. During his war with the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed the second, he went to see the king of Hungary, Mathias Corvinus. Mathias was a Lycan. He had two sons, one of which had been turned into a vampire. So it is quite possible that some of the help he received was he himself becoming a vampire.

Reading that. It made me think the Blood King was in fact Vlad the third Dracul. He did inspire Bram Stoker to write Count Dracula.

When I wasn’t training or checking on things, I was in the library. I wanted to know as much as I could about Vlad and this Blood King. Were they the same person? I aimed to find out.

The documents arrived from Europe. I skimmed through them. It seems the Blood King made his first appearance after the death of Vlad the third. But I didn’t find anything that proved one way or another if they were the same person or even related. I guess I’ll have to ask the Blood King.

The Blood King had disappeared again. He hadn’t attacked any packs in over a week. I was worried he was here and we just didn’t know it. Was he spying on us? Our scouts hadn’t seen anything nor had the patrols. Did he find who he was looking for and Scarlett was off the hook? So many questions. I called a virtual council meeting with all the councils. I needed to know if anyone had heard anything.

“Hey, Aunt Scarlett.” I said as I turned around. She scared me with her sudden appearance.

“Hi, EJ. How are you doing?”

“I am fine. A little worried about what the Blood King is up to since he disappeared, but otherwise everything is going well.”

“I overheard you with the councils. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. But, um, well. I was wondering if you had some time before the meeting to talk.” She asked.

“Sure, what did you want to talk about?”

We went into the library and closed the doors.

An hour later, we left the library. Aunt Scarlett was in bad shape mentally. I recommended she talk with Nathan. I wasn’t sure how to help her other than reassuring her that none of this was her fault. She was also hungry. With everything going on, I had forgotten to make sure we had blood bags in stock. You would think my mother would have handled that. But she has been scatterbrained lately. And I know Dad has been busy with pack stuff.

I called the pack hospital to see if they had any blood bags and to see if they could order some more from the blood bank. We had asked our vampire family not to hunt until after we took care of the Blood King situation. I didn’t want anyone to get hurt or worse if the Blood King showed up.

Another week had passed and still no sign of the Blood King, not here at least. The European Council had reports of the Blood King near Bosnia. I wondered what he was doing there and if he was done with the United States. His behavior was confusing me. Why did he go back to Europe? I’m not complaining, I’d rather he was there than here, but what did that mean for us? Again, I had so many questions. While he was in Europe, I decided to go back to school.

I had been catching up on my schoolwork over the weekends, so I was prepared when I went back. I walked into my English class. Everyone was surprised to see me, except Beth. I was running a little late that morning or I would have arrived with Beth. I handed Mr. Tricarico my assignments and took my seat. Going back to school gave me a break from everything else. I really needed a break, too. Really it was a much needed distraction.

By the end of the day, I had handed in all my assignments. I was glad to see everyone. Most of the kids I only saw at school or at training. But at training I was their leader, at school we were all equals. I had missed playing Magic the Gathering with Ethan and Lucas. And I learned that my friends kept the school dance information from me. Next Friday was the Sadie Hawkins Dance. I wondered why Beth and the guys hadn’t mentioned it. Maybe they did but I was too preoccupied at the time to pay attention. I would ask them before dinner.

We all went to the cafe after school. I ordered my usual smoothie. Man, did I miss this. I have been so busy lately, I haven’t been in to get my afternoon smoothie in a while. Being worried all the time I forgot to take time for the simple things. I would have to do better. I was glad the Blood King had gone back to Europe.

I wasn’t going to let my guard down though. I didn’t know why he had gone back or if he would return here. I left all safety measures in place, the only thing that really changed was me going back to school.
