Chapter 184 Chapter 183 – THE END

After ending the call with her father, Love lay back on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. Hearing Leonard’s words had made her happy, no question about it, but a tiny seed of doubt still sat stubborn in her heart and refused to leave.
What if he was right? What if Asher was only standing by her because he respected her parents? She hated that the thought kept circling around no matter how hard she tried to push it away.
Sitting up, she shook her head hard. “No,” she whispered to herself. “I’m done running from him.”
After a long, relaxing shower she changed into the most beautiful lingerie Asher had ever bought for her. It wasn’t because she wanted to tempt him. She simply wanted him to see that she wasn’t afraid of loving him anymore. This time she wanted to be the one waiting for him.
While she got ready, room service came through to clean the suite. Once they finished she asked them to set up something romantic for lunch.
Fresh flowers covered the dining table, candles sat arranged neatly around the room, and a delicious meal waited beside a bottle of chilled champagne. The luxurious hotel suite suddenly felt warm and intimate. Everything looked perfect. All that was missing was Asher.
Not long afterward the suite door opened. Asher walked in carrying a large bouquet of flowers. The second his eyes landed on Love he froze in place. His heartbeat kicked up hard. She looked breathtaking.
His fingers tightened around the bouquet before he awkwardly shifted it into one hand. With the other he loosened his necktie, trying to steady his breathing. His eyes never left her.
“Love…” His voice came out lower than he expected. “What are you doing?”
Love looked up from the king-sized bed. A champagne flute rested easy between her fingers as a playful smile curved her lips.
“I don’t want to go anywhere today.” Her eyes softened. “Can we spend the rest of the day together?”
For a second Asher simply took her in. Everything about her stole his attention, the smile on her face, the warmth in her eyes, the confidence she had slowly gotten back.
She looked happier than she had in weeks. Without taking his eyes off her, he slipped off his jacket and tossed it onto a nearby chair before climbing onto the bed beside her.
Only then did he remember the flowers. A smile spread across his face as he placed the bouquet into her hands. “These are for you.”
Love’s eyes brightened. “Thank you.” She held the bouquet close before looking back at him with an affectionate smile.
“You are beautiful, and I love you,” Asher replied, Love was completely caught off guard by the unexpected compliment. A quiet laugh escaped her.
“I’ve been waiting to hear that from you.” Warmth spread across Love’s cheeks and a blush slowly colored her face.
“I love you too.”
Asher’s smile grew even gentler. “Then I guess I’ll have to make up for lost time.” He reached over and brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “You’ll be hearing it a lot from now on.” His gaze locked with hers, every word carrying the full sincerity of his heart. “I love you, Love.”
Those four words shattered every remaining wall around her heart. The champagne glass slipped gently onto the bedside table as tears filled her eyes.
Without another thought she wrapped both arms around his neck. Their lips met in a long, heartfelt kiss filled with relief, forgiveness, and every emotion they had been holding back.
Neither of them wanted to let go, not after everything they had survived. Not after nearly losing each other. This wasn’t simply a kiss. It was a promise to stop doubting, a promise to trust, a promise to choose each other every single day.
Two weeks later the investigation officially came to an end. Love and Asher were finally ready to return home to New York.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough evidence to convict Danny of all his crimes. He had carefully manipulated every one of his victims into signing documents that authorized the hospital to donate their organs and use their bodies for scientific research.
Since the victims were no longer alive to expose him, the prosecution couldn’t prove everything they suspected. In the end Danny received only a two-year prison sentence. The judgment left everyone disappointed.
Leonard hid his anger well, but inside he was furious. Part of him wanted Danny to experience the same cruelty he had forced on innocent people.
He planned to have Danny kidnapped and his organs harvested as after his release from prison. He wanted his remains reduced to ashes just like those of his victims. Only then would justice feel complete. But he buried those thoughts. For Love’s sake he chose to look ahead instead of backward.
News of Love and Asher’s reconciliation spread quickly through both families. Everyone was overjoyed. The wedding preparations began almost immediately after the couple announced they would marry in three months.
With capable successors finally ready to take over, Leonard and Lucinda decided it was time to enjoy a well-deserved vacation. They handed most of the daily responsibilities over to Love and Asher before boarding their private jet.
Leonard leaned comfortable against his seat and looked at his wife with a satisfied smile.
“At last,” he muttered happily, “we finally have people we can trust to run the businesses.”
Lucinda smiled shyly. “There was a time when I thought that day would never come.” She looked out the window before turning back to him. “But now…” Her eyes sparkled with happiness. “The future looks full of wonderful surprises.”
Leonard couldn’t stop smiling. He gently cupped her face with both hands before leaning closer. His lips met hers in a loving kiss filled with years of shared memories. A moment later the pilot’s voice echoed through the cabin.
“We’re preparing for takeoff. Please fasten your seatbelts.”
Leonard sighed dramatically before pulling away. His eyes stayed fixed on Lucinda. A teasing grin slowly spread across his face.
“You just wait,” he winked. “I’m going to make you feel like you’re twenty again.”
Lucinda burst into laughter, the joyful sound filled the cabin. “I can’t wait.”
Their laughter continued as the private jet slowly rolled onto the runway, carrying them toward a future filled with peace, family, and new beginnings.
THE END.
