Chapter 179 Asher, Do You Forgive Me?
Chapter 179 Asher, Do You Forgive Me?
Danny thrashed wildly against the agents pinning him down, his eyes wild and desperate as they locked onto Love.
He scanned her face frantically, praying for even a tiny spark of pity or understanding, but there was nothing left. Every ounce of trust and love she’d once had for him had completely vanished, wiped out by his betrayal.
If she let scum like him walk away, he’d just hurt someone else next time.
Her hand shook as she lifted it and pointed straight at him, her voice cutting through the room.
“He’s the one behind all of it. I heard him talking to the doctors about harvesting every single one of my organs.”
In the distance, police sirens wailed louder and louder until several patrol cars screeched up outside the hospital. Their flashing red and blue lights danced wildly across the windows.
Love blinked hard, caught completely off guard. “What the heck is going on?”
Leonard placed a steady, comforting hand on her shoulder, his face set with rock-solid determination.
“I called the cops the second we landed. Something this messed up can’t just get swept under the rug. Every single person mixed up in this nightmare is gonna get dragged through the wringer.”
Pure relief flooded across her exhausted face, making her shoulders sag as the tension finally broke.
“Thank you, Dad.”
Danny’s face drained of all color, turning ghostly pale as panic clawed at him.
“No… no, Love, please!” His voice cracked and trembled, thick with fear. “You’ve got this all twisted. It’s one huge misunderstanding, I swear it wasn’t me!”
But his desperate pleas fell flat, carrying zero weight anymore. No one believed a single word.
Officers burst into the room just seconds later, taking full control while the agents stepped back. Leonard stared Danny down with ice-cold eyes that sent chills through the air.
“You’ll make this a whole lot easier on yourself if you start talking right now and give up every single person who helped you. Otherwise, prison’s gonna feel like the loneliest hell on earth.”
Danny opened his mouth to protest again, but nothing came out. Cold steel handcuffs snapped tight around his wrists with a sharp, final click that echoed through the room like a death sentence, sealing his fate for good.
Asher moved over to Love without saying a word at first. The second he reached her, his whole expression melted into pure softness and care.
He slid one arm under her knees and the other around her back, then scooped her up so gently, like she was made of the most fragile glass that might shatter at any second.
“It’s time to get you the hell out of here, Love.”
Love searched his face for a long moment before a sudden thought hit her hard.
“The nurse…” She frowned, digging through her memories. “Cornelia. That was her name.”
She remembered Cornelia saying her shift would wrap up in about an hour.
Love spun toward Leonard, her eyes lighting up with real warmth despite everything she’d survived.
“Dad, can you help me track down a nurse named Cornelia? Her shift should be ending soon, but I really need to thank her properly. She took care of me when nobody else would.
She dreams of going back to school and becoming a doctor one day, and I want to make that happen for her. I want to help her chase that dream with everything she’s got.”
Leonard didn’t even hesitate for a heartbeat. Anything his daughter wanted, he’d move heaven and earth to deliver.
A warm, loving smile spread across his face. “Don’t you worry about a thing, sweetheart. I’ll handle every single detail.”
Love smiled back at him, gratitude shining bright in her eyes. “Thank you.”
Asher carried her out of the room while Leonard stayed behind to wrap things up.
The moment they were out of sight, Leonard’s face hardened like stone as he turned to the men Dominic had sent. Every bit of gentleness vanished, replaced by a chilling intensity.
“I know bastards involved in crap like this usually have some powerful friends in their corner.”
His eyes turned even colder, sharp as knives.
“If he somehow walks free…” His lips twisted into a dark, humorless smile. “Take him. Harvest every damn organ he’s got.”
After he spoke, he slowly scanned the entire hallway, checking every corner for cameras or prying eyes.
Lucinda stood there with her arms folded, looking cool and collected as ever. “Don’t worry about it.”
A confident little smile played on her lips. “I already wiped every single recording of what you just said.”
Leonard gave her a look full of quiet, deep appreciation. Having someone as sharp and brilliant as Lucinda on their side felt like the biggest blessing.
She’d never been okay with the mafia’s brutal ways and always pushed for handling things the legal way whenever possible. But today had shattered something inside her.
She’d seen up close just how close they’d come to losing Love forever. If Love hadn’t kept her cool and thought fast on her feet, they might’ve never found her alive. Instead, they could’ve gotten a devastating call saying their daughter had simply vanished.
The real truth would’ve been even more horrifying—her organs ripped out and sold off, her body tossed away like trash with no one ever knowing what really happened.
That nightmare image twisted Lucinda’s stomach so hard she felt sick. She wanted every single person responsible to pay dearly for what they’d done.
Leonard’s expression darkened even more as another thought slammed into him.
“Oh, wait.”
He yanked out his phone.
“Love sent me another video.”
He pulled up the recording and held the screen out so everyone could watch. The footage clearly captured the doctor conspiring with Danny right there in the hospital.
“There,” he said, his voice dropping to pure ice. “This doctor needs to be slapped in cuffs too.”
They all watched the video in heavy silence. The evidence was undeniable.
Because of Danny’s arrest and the massive investigation kicking off, Asher couldn’t whisk Love back to New York just yet. The police still needed her full statement before they could wrap up the case.
So instead, he brought her back to the hotel where she’d been staying. The second they stepped into the suite, he carried her straight to the living room and gently lowered her onto the soft couch, fussing over her to make sure she was perfectly comfortable before stepping back.
“You’ve been through absolute hell today,” he said softly, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “I’ll order us some food so you can finally relax.”
He’d barely turned around when he felt her small hand wrap around his arm. Love pushed herself up, wincing as she limped closer on her bad leg, her fingers gripping his sleeve tightly.
She looked up at him, her eyes filled with raw nervousness and vulnerability.
“Asher…” Her voice came out as barely more than a whisper, trembling with emotion. “Do you forgive me?”
