75. He who shall fall
**Lucifer**
Nothing else was left behind...just a trail of blood spluttered everywhere and a dead body...
Our sweet little Blake...
My gaze darted once again towards her lifeless, bloodied form, a heavy pang of pain striking in my chest once again as I watched my dear Erick now suffering in silence, his bloodshot eyes intensely staring down at her deathly pale features, gingerly caressing her cheek with the back of his hand.
This is all my fault...
I have acted so immature...
Instead of throwing harsh words at her, I should’ve protected her...
Damn...I should’ve-
The words suddenly died in my mind as I heard the soft flapping of wings wooshing through the air and the moment I looked up, Raphael’s pure white wings gracefully moved at his sides as he slowly descended from the dark, crimson sky, his gaze trained on the horror scene beneath him.
Immense pain crossed his features, the moment his dark eyes landed on her lifeless body, everything else seeming momentarily forgotten as he rushed to kneel right next to her, his breathing ragged, barely containing the tears threatening to fall as he took in her bloodied form.
Grave, deep silence continued to float among us all as I watched him continuously staring down at her, a strange look suddenly flashing in his eyes, seconds before he rose his sight to look at Erick, telling him something I obviously failed to hear.
Curious by nature, I purposefully enhanced my hearing, focusing on their small conversation, just in time to hear those last words,
“...you have to trust me...”
Oh brother...What in Father’s name is crossing through that crafty mind of yours?
I frowned, curiously watching how my dear friend reluctantly placed his sister’s dead body in Raph’s arms, at the same time wondering what the bloody hell was he up to, before he did the unthinkable.
Inhaling a deep breath, he held her inanimate body closer to his, slowly leaning closer, and closer, until his lips gently touched her bloodied ones, pressing an intense, yet chaste kiss.
What the...
My breath suddenly stopped in my throat, the moment that pure, bright light left his chest, quickly sinking deep inside hers, my eyes widening at the sight, staring utterly shocked.
Holy cow.
Thum-thump... thum-thump... thum-thump...
The faint sound of a weak heartbeat instantly reached my ears, my entire frame lightly trembling after hearing that sweet sound, still struggling to process what just happened.
He did it.
He had made the ultimate sacrifice.
