Chapter Six — This Thing Called Fate

Will’s POV:

I can’t believe I was the therapist she signed up with, how in fate’s name did that happen? I’m so glad I cancelled and didn’t reschedule, it would have been really overwhelming for her, and especially after what I said during the argument we had. And now she’s applying into my Dad’s company, I wonder how shocked she would be if she finds out I’m the CEO and the owner is my dad. I let out a scoff in form of a small laugh. She’s going through a lot so getting that job would mean a lot to her.

I reached for my phone immediately and put a call through to the head of HR department Rachel. I wonder why she’s not answering. I decided to send her a text.

'Hey, call me asap.' It was delivered immediately, but I didn’t get a reply. Maybe they were having a meeting. After a few minutes my phone started ringing.

“Hello"

“I can’t believe you called me. I was in the middle of an important meeting. So what’s your emergency?” she asked. I couldn’t believe I'd just called her myself.

“I need you to help out with a candidate who just applied, her name is” I paused. I had taken a glance at her name when I went through those documents, now I just had to remember. “Her name is Irene Juls,” I said. I could hear her say the name in the background, she was writing it down I guess.

“She must get in” I added. That can be my little compensation for the things I said to her at least. And it would also help get her mind of her piece of shit ex-boyfriend.

“Okay Sir, noted. Who is she to you anyway?” she asked.

“It doesn’t matter, just do what I said” I replied.

“Okay. Would you be coming to work at all?"

“No,” I replied and ended the call. I knew she would be heartbroken. She had always been very nice to me, and at one point, she almost confessed her feelings to me, but she couldn’t get herself to rebel against my so-called ‘fiancé,’ who was her friend. That was another reason I didn't want to go back to that company. My dad wanted me to get married to some girl, just because her father was the owner of the biggest automobile company and my dad thought marrying into their family would give us a shot at being their permanent ads company. She was very pretty, but I didn't like her. I’d only liked someone once in my life, when I was in seventh grade, and she smashed her ice cream cone on my face before I could speak. Going back to that company would rob me of my own life.

*****

I just woke up from a nap and I’m seeing 12 missed calls and 5 new messages from my friends asking me if I’m throwing a party today. I don’t think I would though, for some reason I just need total silence and time to think about my life thoroughly.

'No party today,' I texted back.

'Whyyyy?'

'What is wrong with you jerk?'

'You had better be kidding,' my friend Reed texted back. He is my closest friend and the biggest fan of the parties I throw. He’s the owner of biggest publishing and broadcasting house.

'No jokes, fam. I need some time off,' I replied.

'All good man, take all the time you need,' he texted back.

I knew he would understand. That’s why he was my closest friend.

'Please help tell the others,' I asked. He had access to the others and had his way of getting an info about the party passed to them.

After the fight with Irene I started to think deeply about my life. To an extent what she said was true. These parties were an escape from my reality. I always get reminded about my childhood, it was a very lonely one, Dad was never at home, Mum left him when I was just two years old for a richer Man and I never had any siblings. Even if Dad hired the best nannies and gave me all I needed I still somehow always felt this void on the inside. Like I was the only boy in the world, like I wasn’t loved. Maybe running from it only made it worse, I think it’s time I learn how to heal and fight whatever the feeling was.

I turned up the speaker in my room, I was really emotional now and I just need to drown myself in Sia’s bird set free. You know the saying that ‘Money can’t buy happiness’ is very right. I have all the money but here I am still drowning in so much sadness and loneliness.

I checked my phone to see that I missed Rachel’s call. I knew she had to be calling about Irene. I called her back immediately.

“Hey, what's up? Have you seen her documents?” I asked.

“No, she was here but turns out her application was trashed from the recruiting department” she replied.

“Wait, what? Why? She has all the qualifications and even the experience. Who is in charge of the recruiting department?” I said angrily.

“One Mark guy, I don’t know. According to him she is not qualified” she said.

“What? Is it a dullard like that you made head of the recruiting department? How can we ever have the right people hired then? Do you know what? I will call you back"

Sometimes I think about this, the Company had a lot of people who were working to only bring it down, I might have to accept my dad’s offer and go back. I mean I already plan on stopping these parties anyway. I called my Dad’s assistant immediately.

“Hey, Wi…sorry Mark” she said.

“Get everything ready and do not let anyone asides Dad know. I will be starting work as of tomorrow,” I replied.

“So you will be stopping the parties then?” she asked.

“Obviously,” I replied.

“Oh, wow…erm, Okay,” she stuttered.

I went through Irene’s CV and she was perfect for the role she applied for, she had a lot of experience and she had the qualification as well and I also saw the certificates she had in other areas. So what was this so-called Mark guy thinking? To think the idiot even bears the same name with me. I would have a lot of work to do starting tomorrow, and a lot of firing as well.
