Chapter 60 - Mo Money, Mo Problems
-Naomi-
“Jeremiah, take Naomi. Naomi, take Jeremiah,” instructed Harris.
“To do what?” asked Jeremiah and I in unison.
“You guys are headed to find the third solution.” Stated Alpha Harris.
“What are you talking about, Alpha? Killing her is still our quickest bet,” said Jeremiah.
“I won’t accept killing the human agent. And neither can we afford the ridiculous amount of money to buy the property. Therefore, we must find another way. The third solution.” said Harris.
“There is no other way.” Said Naomi.
Harris rose once more. “I refuse to accept that.”
“You really think you can have your cake, and eat it too. That’s being too selfish!” asserted Jeremiah. Instead of getting furious, Harris smirked innocently.
“Of course. Why else would I have the cake in the first place?”
“He’s got you there” I mentioned. “The correct quote is ‘You can’t eat your cake and have it too’” I replied, turning on lecture mode.
“Naomi, you have your work cut out for you already. You begin immediately.” Commanded Harris.
“Even though I haven’t taken the trials yet?” I teased him.
He waved it off. “Like I said, that’s just a show of confidence.”
“But what happens If I fail?” I asked. “You’re not going to kick me out, right?”
There was a pause. “You’re not going to fail, Naomi. At least, you better not. Now, off with the both of you. I have some other work to attend to.” He escorted us out of the office, and I was alone with Jeremiah again.
Still, he wasn’t keen on giving me any form of eye contact. “What are we going to do?” I asked him, as we walked downstairs. He didn’t bother to turn or make any movements that acknowledged my existence.
“Hey!” I called out, still to no response.
“I heard you the first time, Ms Naomi. Unfortunately, your screeches are preventing me from thinking clearly.” He scoffed.
“Do you really think you can talk to me like that?” I asked. “I have explained this to you, many times before. We are of the same rank now. If you are not willing to comply co-operatively, that will be insubordination to your Alpha. So do, you want to continue acting like a baby, or actually come together to see what we can do about your mess?” I asked him.
He rolled his eyes and approached me. “Don’t be mistaken, Ms Naomi. You may be overflowing with confidence since you got a few lucky hits, but I am a werewolf of chivalry. I don’t believe females should be warriors.” He started.
“Such warm progressive thinking” I snarled.
“And I am very very much stronger than you would believe.” He said as a warning but I brushed it off as part of some weird masculinity thing he had going.
“Are you done waving your dick around in my face?” The statement seemed to jade him, and he widened his eyes. Innocently. Don’t tell me- I took the opportunity to have some fun. “Or you want to slap it on my face? Want me to look as you stroke it? Or maybe” I moved my hands as seductively as I could, starting from my lips. “Here?”
I watched him shudder a bit, and I traced my fingers from my lips gently to my collar bone, and down to the top of the small cleavage I had taken the risk of flaunting for this visit.
“Maybe in here?” I asked, taking my pitch higher. Jeremiah seemed transfixed. He didn’t speak or move for the longer stretch of a minute, maybe his brain was trying to process what was happening. I looked over at his groin area.
Somebody was tight, like tight, tight. His brain might have been confused, but that part of him was standing on business. I snapped my fingers together and clapped my hands. “We have a job to do. I suggest you focus on that, instead of trying to prove a point. Now, I’ll ask again. What is the plan?”
He grit his teeth and pulled away from me. “If Alpha Harris is so intent on doing this without any bloodshed, and risking the livelihood of the pack might I add-“ He sure did like to talk down on Harris a lot. Why was that?
“Can I ask you something?” I asked.
“What?!”
“Isn’t Harris your brother? Why do you have to keep that type of hostile energy when talking with him?”
Jeremiah flared red. “What is that supposed to mean?” he asked slowly.
“That you talk about him, with no modicum of respect” I replied, not backing down. “That’s not how family does it.”
He laughed. “And what would you know about family ties? Your own father abandoned you, and left you out to rot.” He chuckled.
“I know you’re trying to trigger me, and it’s so obvious to see. What he did, wasn’t emotionally based. It was for the pack. You’d be a fool to think I blamed him specifically. After all, they all wanted me gone! It’s the elders I blame.” I said sincerely.
“Well, I say what I say for the well-being of the pack too.”
“Is that right?”
“Being able to speak my mind is important, regardless of whether the Alpha is my brother or not, don’t you think? Isn’t that the whole point of democracy?” This boy is deluded, I remember thinking.
“You think a werewolf pack is a fucking democracy. What are they teaching younglings nowadays?” I asked.
“Whatever. I’m going to say what I have to say, especially if it depends on the survival of our pack. And anything less than killing that agent immediately - is just pandering for another problem.” He explained.
“Interesting. I could say the same about you. Say what you have to say, regardless.” I replied, almost instructing him.
“If Alpha Harris, insists on keeping the humans alive, and with the financial non-existence of our pack, the only logical thing to do is very clear.”
“Hmm?”
“We’re going to steal the money.” He said. I paused, hoping the words that came out of his mouth would bounce back to his brain for a re-analysis.
“You want us to steal 1 million dollars?” I asked.
