Chapter 54 - I'm back

The door swung open, and I came face to face with the pretty werewolf, Jeremiah. He looked from the crumpled body of Nicole to me.

"Is she-?" he started.

"No, of course not. There is a weakness in the human nervous frame, just below the neck. I just made her go to sleep for a bit." I replied.

"I didn't know that" muttered Jeremiah. I stood tall in my triumph. It was the second time I was beating him, and a great sense of superiority washed over me for the second time. Which was strange considering that he was technically still my junior. What exactly was I trying to prove? He looked at me again. Harshly, this time.

"What do you want?" he asked seriously. I looked from him to the outside.

"Is that any way to treat your saviour? Your rescuer?" I asked playfully.

"Don't talk like you're one of the pack, Ms Naomi. Aren't you here for your own selfish interests?" he asked me. I scoffed and tried to move inside, but he was like a boulder blocking my path.

I had forgotten how towering he could be, my eyes went to his attire for the morning, a tight tank top that wrapped around his defined chest area nicely and dropped down just short of his groin area. Why did I always notice things like that? Was I really that thirsty of a woman? It hadn't been too long since Vincent adequacy fucked my brains out.

"If you can call staying here to clean up your mess selfish, I'm not quite sure you understand the meaning of the word." I snarled.

"You-"

"I could've just left and come back another day, you know. And you have no idea the carnage I just prevented by just being here. Have you ever tried fighting the police, dear Jeremiah?" I asked him. He turned a sour face.

"I'm here to see Harris. What's it going to be? Are you going to refuse me entry, or not? In the meantime, I'll just leave Ms Nicole here by your doorstep. But I have to warn you. It's not going to be that long before she wakes up" I replied. Jeremiah gave a shallow sigh as he stepped aside.

"He's in the Alpha's office" he replied.

"Expecting me, isn't he?" I asked, and he didn't answer. But I was right. He wouldn't be nonchalant enough to not look outside the windows to assess the events that had just taken place. I marched into the main hall to see something heartbreaking. Werewolves clustered together, the kitchen staff, hunters, foundlings and elders, hunched together in rooms, away from the windows, all silent as a mouse.

They eyed me waringly as I entered, and soon removed their gaze in boredom. Werewolves, like their natural parent, were incredibly territorial and had vicious methods of marking out and protecting their territory. In fact, over 80% of our conflicts involve breaching of territories.

But here, it was far from that. These wolves were in hiding. Being secluded in fear of the humans, no, in fear of breaking the accords. This was the power of the Moonlight Family. What consequence did they place on killing humans, that was so great, so absolutely sacrosanct and portent, that could put wild dangerous werewolves, in this kind of state? Someone bounded towards me from the Kitchen.

It was Catherine. She looked from me to the open door outside.

"Looks like somebody finally came to their senses," she told me.

"Yeah, well, we'll see" I replied.

"What about the woman?" she asked. "I assume she's not dead, you can't be that stupid."

"No, she's not. " I pacified.

"She might be if she's not careful" warned Catherina. I shook my head.

"Then more people will come looking for her. More people you have to kill"

"I know, I know. It's just this is the fucking worst" she replied. I understood her. It was not natural, as natural as you could get anyway, for werewolves to behave like this.

"I'm going to see Harris," I said, taking the stairs.

"I'm coming with you" she replied. How odd. I already knew the way there, but I didn't think much of it at the time. Upstairs, I rapped, more politely this time, on the Alpha's door, until I heard a soft "Come In"

His office was still as bizarre as ever. I found him to the right, sitting by his desk. He gave a warm look, smiled and approached. "Welcome Back, Naomi," he said.

"Uhh-Thank you"

"I've been expecting you," he said. To me, it was as if his words were covered in dripping chocolate. That was as close to "I miss you" that I had heard in years. "We have an extenuating situation" he started.

"Yeah, I saw" I replied humbly.

"And I thank you for it. That chop move you did. I believe that's the first time I've seen anything like that" So he really was watching. Suddenly, it was getting hot in there.

"Yeah, I found that out in my 3rd year when I confronted a bunch of them by accident. One fell to the floor without any noise, and the others, the unluckiest of the bunch, had severe bone injuries" I explained. He laughed deeply, and I smirked.

"Come, Naomi. We have to discuss " he instructed, and I was all too happy to obey. Catherina cleared her throat. When I saw her, she was scowling.

"What is it?" asked Harris.

"What do we do with the body, outside?" she asked.

"Just leave it?" Harris turned to me. "How much longer do we have before she comes to?" he asked.

"It depends. It's all physiology. But I would say around an hour or two, MAX"

Harris turned to Catherina "Leave her there. I believe with Naomi here, we shall have an inspiration to a solution" he winked casually at me. My heart fluttered. "Now" He turned to Catherina and nodded. I knew that look. 'You can leave now'
