Chapter 92 Difficult To Traumatise

Chapter 92 Difficult To Traumatise
EILEEN POV:

No matter how much I wanted to go home with my family, the medical team deemed that everyone needed to be monitored for forty-eight hours before we were allowed out. Dominic thought it was the best course of action, as well. He took work calls in the VIP ward hallway while I went from one room to the next, keeping track of Harry, Bethany, and Lucy simultaneously.

Greg was going in and out, keeping his distance whenever there was some article he had to take down about the situation. His phone was constantly ringing, and Lucy looked mildly irritated with him.

“Can you wait outside?” she groaned when the ringing hurt her ear.

I bit my lip, holding back my laugh as Greg stared at her helplessly for a moment before rushing out of the room.

“You know he can’t help it,” I said softly, caressing her arm.

Lucy sighed. “I know. He keeps hovering and breathing down the nurses neck every time they come in to check. He has so much work, but he insists on staying,” she groaned. So, she wanted some peace.

“You don’t think I’m coddling you?”

Lucy rolled her eyes. “That, I welcome.” Then she frowned. “There is a shower in here, but I want my own clothes. Can someone bring them to me?”

I perked up. “Dan is on his way, apparently.”

Lucy’s eyes lit up. “And he is bringing my stuff?”

I nodded. “Leigh prepared bags for all of us with supplies. From what Dan said, Leigh wants to come but she knows the moment she steps out of the property, she will be followed and our location compromised.”

Lucy flinched. “Yeah, I don’t need the media looking at my face. I look terrible.”

At least she was bouncing back quickly. I couldn’t say the same about myself. Despite the worry easing, the fear that a dark shadow would jump out of the shadow and steal my babies away still lingered. Every time Dominic stepped out, the panic increased.

The facade of calm I had put on myself crumbled and I inched closer to the little cribs and checked that Harry and Bethany were still inside. If Dominic noticed when he returned, he didn’t comment on it.

Right now, he was inside the next room, keeping an eye on the babies while I checked in on Lucy.

“Before you apologize again, know that I will brag about being kidnapped for the rest of my life. Our grandkids are hearing about this,” she pouted.

I chuckled at the absurdity of her words.

“Glad you are difficult to traumatize.”

Lucy shrugged. “Not difficult to traumatize, but I will make the best of it.”

I heard the door slide open and Greg peered inside sheepishly. “Dan is waiting for you outside,” he announced. He waved a small bag, which was meant for Lucy in the air as an offering to enter once again.

Lucy waved him in, the offering seemingly appeasing her.

“Well, enjoy your shower,” I called over my shoulder.

“And my undereye cream!” Lucy exclaimed upon opening the bag. Leigh had put in the most important essentials, apparently.

I shut the door behind me and the silence enveloped me. In such moments of loneliness, the urgency to find someone to be with was more pressing. I was about to move into the next room when Dan came out and stopped me.

“You need to come with me,” he spoke softly.

My brows furrowed. “Why?”

“The security and cops have kept the media away, but Arthur’s parents found out you were also here.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose. “I don’t know either of them,” I admitted.

“Well, they just found out about you and they are pestering everyone at the nurses station to find out where you are.”

I groaned. “What could they possibly want to talk about?”

I was glad they weren’t allowed to come anywhere near the ward. I had to thank the security profusely when I left.

“Probably about Arthur.”

I sighed. “Is he still in the emergency room?”

Dan shook his head. “He was moved to the general ward. The cops somehow got a single occupancy room for him and he is heavily guarded. So far, his parents have been allowed in one by one, and I have no idea what he told them. They don’t look angry, though.”

Why would they be angry? No matter what Arthur told them, their son had committed a crime. They had no right to be angry at me.

“What would you have me do?” I asked. I was at a loss. I wanted nothing to do with him. “I don’t want to meet Arthur.” That was my bottom line.

“And you shouldn’t.” The cops had taken statements from everyone present, me included. “I just wanted you to know that they were calling. I spoke to Greg already and he wants to leave the decision to you. No matter what you decide, he will back you up and coordinate with the media accordingly.”

Right, the whole scene was sensational. People loved a good car chase and police hunt. And Arthur had added kidnapping, blackmail, children, and billionaires into the mix. It would surprise me if the media allowed this juicy piece of news to die down so soon.

The media would flock to whoever would speak to them. And if Arthur’s parents were anything like them, they would be happy to open their mouths and pin the blame on me.

“And what did Dominic say?”

“You know him…” he started. “He trusts your decision.”

My decision…

I thought about it for a long time. I didn’t want to put more stress on Dominic or Greg, but at the same time, I didn’t want to do anything with Arthur. But if they knew nothing about what he had done, they were Bethany’s grandparents. I couldn’t really stop them from seeing her.

I had to scope them out to make sure they were not terrible parents. For now, the odds were not in their favor.
