Chapter 47 Chapter 47

Chapter 47 Chapter 47
Liora’s POV

Over the next few weeks, my life spiralled into a completely new routine. The change was so rapid, and it felt so natural, that I almost did not realize it.

Although my private training with Kysen did not stop, I was more involved in proper warrior training now. Running drills and practicing routines with other fellow warriors was slowly becoming my favorite thing to do. I had always wanted to be a warrior, but given the whole ‘not bonding with my drakyn' thing, I could not. I was not allowed to. After all, what type of warrior did not have a drakyn.

It's not even the fighting part. I mean, I had begun training since I could fly, so I was a pretty good fighter. It was more because there were necessary things to do to officially be called a warrior. Well, I was now going through the proper process.
I followed my mother to countless meetings, mostly of affairs that had to do with the welfare of the city. She might have not been the best mother, but she was an excellent queen, one that always looked out for the betterment of her people. And she was training me to be the exact same.

Stepping into this whole new world was nothing like I imagined it to be. Before this, I grew exhausted at the mere thought of taking the throne. Because I could not bond with my drakyn earlier, the idea was a major burden for me.
But now, actually seeing what my mother does, watching her, helping her, listening to the people, going to meetings… All of that was actually exhilarating, and as much as I was reluctant to admit it, it almost made me excited to take the throne.

“Vyrmoth, why did you bond with me?” I randomly asked, as I twirled my ink-quill between my fingers, absent-mindedly staring at the blank note in front of me.
I was supposed to be working on some assignment from my healing class, but my head was even more blank than my note was.
So, naturally, my mind wandered.

“Does it matter?” He asked, clearly hesitating.
Even if it didn't before, now it did. There was no way I was letting it go, especially since he hesitated.

“Yes, it does” I responded as I dropped my ink-quill, now fully dedicated to drawing answers out of him.

“And don’t say it's because we are connected and you did not want to die. We both know that's a lie,” I paused, letting it sink, before I continued “I know you are not scared of dying. So, what exactly is the real reason you decided to save me and bond with me?”

Vyrmoth grunted, “Do not pretend to know everything about me, little one”

“Maybe I don't, but you know I'm right about this” I said and he went silent.

“Your boyfriend cried” he suddenly said and I flushed instantly.

“He is not my boyfriend!” I retorted, my face as red as it could possibly be.

“He is,” he stated calmly.

“No, he isn't!” I argued, very embarrassed now.

“What is he then?” He asked, and I was at a loss of words.

“He's… ummm, well, he is…” I stuttered over words that just would not come.
Wait a minute…
Wow, very sleek as usual.
He had managed to change the topic and flip the entire table on me.

Vyrmoth happened to be a master of deflecting. He did it so easily and swiftly, that most times, I didn't even realize it until later when it was too late.
And he just did it again.

But this time, I was not going to cave.

“No, no, no. This conversation is about you, not me.” I said and he grunted again.

“You didn't bond with me because Kysen cried, that's a lie” I said.

“Why do you think so?” He asked.

“Because if you were going to cave so easily from tears, you would have a long time ago. I cried to you so many times and you didn't ever so much as blink” I explained and he went silent again.
Got him.

“It was stupid of you to put yourself in harm's way in the first place, but the fact that putting yourself in that situation was your immediate reflex, was quite… intriguing” He explained and my brows shot up.

“You were impressed?” I asked, shocked that anything I did could ever impress Vyrmoth.

“I was more curious than impressed,” he said, his tone firm.
But I smiled nonetheless. The wide grin on my face was more than enough proof that I was happy with what I was hearing.

“I saved you because I finally saw the strength I had been waiting for you to show me. It was never about physical strength” he added and I smiled even wider.

“Aww, who knew you could be sentimental?” I teased and he grunted again.

“Keep quiet,” he warned, with a slight growl.

But guess who did not listen?
Me.

“Oh sweet sweet Vyrmoth,” I teased again.

I felt his frustration within me as he stirred.
I almost laughed.
Keyword. Almost.

The laughter stopped right in my throat at the sound of what he said next.

“The only sweet thing you should be thinking of is your boyfriend's sweet mouth,” he said, referring to when Kysen said there were other things his sweet mouth could do.

I happened to subconsciously let my guard down that day and Vyrmoth has taken the liberty to tease me about it endlessly.

“When are you going to let that go?” I asked, rolling my eyes in part annoyance, and part embarrassment.

“I don't know. Maybe when I get over the trauma that it gave me” he said and I groaned.

“I'm beginning to wonder if that will ever happen,” I said, thinking about all the times he had brought it up.

“Me too” he responded, clearly annoyed by the memory.

I sighed, before picking up my ink-quill again. I tore a page out of my note, and scribbled on it:
‘Note to self: Avoid saying the word ‘sweet’ to Vyrmoth'

That seemed to be the trigger. I giggled as I stuck it to my table.
