Chapter 88
The trash cans lining the city streets gave off a nasty stench, mixing with the damp air and making the whole area smell so bad it could make anyone gag.
To stay under the radar, Henry led Gary into a dimly lit, abandoned room. The walls were covered in blotchy water stains, and cobwebs hung in the corners.
Right then, Gary was sweating bullets, his eyes wide with terror. He kept rubbing his hands together like he was trying to calm himself down.
Facing Henry and Sophia, he realized the mess he was in and how it would affect his family and his life.
Gary didn't dare hold back anymore. He spilled everything he knew to them.
His voice shook, and he talked fast, his mind racing. He was scared that leaving out any detail might hurt his defense in court.
He laid out every delivery spot, time, and the specifics of each handoff.
After listening to Gary, Henry squinted a bit, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
Henry quickly ran through the situation in his mind and soon had a plan.
The plan was to avoid tipping off the enemy and find the mastermind behind it all. Grabbing Gary would only get them a small fish, which wouldn't help much.
The network behind Gary was complex. If they could use him to uncover the higher-ups and take down the whole criminal organization, it would be a game-changer.
After thinking it over, Henry turned to Sophia, his eyes lit up with anticipation, and shared his idea.
"Sophia, I think we can use Gary to get inside their operation and draw out the big players," Henry said firmly.
Sophia shook her head right away.
Her eyes showed concern, her brows furrowed tightly. "It's too dangerous. If they find out, we'll be in even more trouble. These guys are smart and ruthless. If they discover who you are, your life will be at risk. They used a sniper rifle in a crowded area, which shows how dangerous they are," she said.
Henry replied, "But given the situation, isn't it worth a shot? The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward, Sophia. You get what I'm saying, right?"
He raised an eyebrow, a sly smile on his face. He made a goofy expression, trying to lighten the mood.
He added, "Besides, we have backup. If things go south, our team outside isn't just for show, right?"Henry had total faith in Sophia's skills, believing that as long as they teamed up, they could handle any curveballs thrown their way.
Sophia's frown deepened as she took in his confidence.
She felt torn, worried about Henry's safety but also knowing this was their best shot.
After a moment of silence, she let out a heavy sigh. "Alright, we'll do it your way. But if anything goes wrong, we act immediately."
"Deal! No problem." Henry nodded eagerly, a triumphant smile spreading across his face.
Having convinced Sophia, he turned to the anxious Gary nearby, a scrutinizing look in his eyes.
"Don't be nervous. Sophia and I have decided to give you a chance to redeem yourself. If you help us, we'll say you were an undercover agent. This way, you can save your son and protect yourself. Are you willing?" His voice was steady, carrying a reassuring strength.
Gary responded, "Yes, of course. But what do you need me to do?" A glimmer of hope appeared in Gary's eyes, quickly replaced by worry.
He looked at Henry, confused. "I've told you everything I know. What else can I do to help?" he asked.
He couldn't think of any other valuable information he could provide to the police.
"Just follow my instructions." Henry moved closer, lowering his voice as if afraid someone might overhear. "I'll go with you to make the delivery. After the deal, introduce me to your contacts. Got it?"
His eyes locked onto Gary's, searching for any sign of hesitation.
Gary's eyes widened in disbelief. "Okay, but it's really dangerous, sir. These guys are ruthless. I've seen how they deal with traitors. Are you serious?"
He knew the dangerous nature of the deals he was involved in. Dragging Henry into it filled him with fear.
Henry rolled his eyes in exasperation. "Do I look like I'm joking?" he asked.
Henry said, "Just do what you need to do, and don't ask questions. If things go wrong, just say I forced you at gunpoint."
"Alright." Gary agreed reluctantly, his voice tinged with helplessness and fear.
He knew he had no other choice but to follow Henry's plan.
With the plan settled, Sophia immediately began organizing the operation.
She grabbed her radio, her eyes sharp and resolute. "Center the operation around the location Gary mentioned. Have the police units on the outskirts of the slums gradually move in. Everyone, stay alert and be ready for anything."
