Chapter 82

Sophia gave a slight nod, acknowledging Henry had a point.

Those seemingly insignificant gloves might just be the key to cracking this case wide open.

Without wasting any time, they set off to find Jack again.

Sophia kept her tone calm as she asked, "Hey, Jack, we noticed you were wearing gloves earlier, but then you took them off. Where are they now?"

Jack's eyes flickered at the question, but he replied casually, "The gloves got dirty, so I changed them. Is there a problem?"

He tried to appear composed, but the slight tremor in his voice gave him away.

Sophia fixed her gaze on Jack's eyes and continued, "It's not a problem. We just need to check your gloves. Is that okay?"

Her eyes were determined, leaving no room for negotiation. As a police officer, she wouldn't let any potential evidence slip away.

Jack seemed flustered by Sophia's request, his eyes darting around as he mumbled, "It's not that it's inconvenient; I just don't recall where I put them."

As he spoke, he instinctively touched his pocket, a gesture that didn't escape Henry's notice.

Henry, ever perceptive, immediately sensed something was off.

Without hesitation, he reached out and placed his hand on Jack's pocket, his voice calm but authoritative. "Mind if I take a look at what's in your pocket?"

Jack's face turned pale, and sweat began to bead on his forehead. His hands instinctively moved to protect his pocket, and his body started to tremble.

Seeing Jack's guilty expression, Sophia instantly realized that whatever was in his pocket could be crucial evidence, possibly even proof of his crime.

She gave Henry a subtle nod, signaling him to retrieve the item by force if necessary.

Henry understood and acted without hesitation.

Jack struggled fiercely, trying to break free from Henry's grip, but there was no way Henry would let him escape.

Amid their intense struggle, the gloves were finally pulled out.

The moment they saw the clear burn marks on the gloves, the truth seemed to reveal itself.

Seeing this, Jack collapsed to the ground, utterly defeated, tears streaming down his face.

He clutched his head in his hands, his voice trembling as he said, "He forced me. If it was just me, I could have endured it, but he went after my sister, Luna. He handed her over to them as a plaything for his own gain. And then..."

Jack's emotions grew more intense, his voice choked with sobs. He pounded the ground with his fist and shouted, "And then they killed her and threw her off the yacht."

His eyes were red with rage and sorrow, and he seemed to be drowning in his own despair.

Henry listened to Jack's confession, feeling a pang of sympathy.

He could sense Jack's pain and hopelessness, but no matter the reason, murder was still unforgivable.

Sophia, however, remained stern, her voice serious as she said, "I understand your reasons, but you can't take the law into your own hands. Otherwise, how are you any different from them?"

Her eyes reflected a mix of regret and helplessness.

Jack seemed taken aback by Sophia's words. He looked up, his eyes filled with confusion and pain, as if he was contemplating what she had said.

At that moment, Frank arrived. Seeing the scene before him, he quickly grasped the situation.

He pulled out a pair of handcuffs and efficiently cuffed Jack. "Let's go. You're coming with me to the station."

His voice was firm and unwavering.

With that, the case was temporarily closed.

Exhausted from the long hours without rest, Sophia felt a wave of fatigue wash over her.

Knowing she wasn't in the best state to handle the remaining tasks, she handed them over to Frank.

Then she left the scene with Henry.

Once outside the hotel, Sophia let out a deep sigh, feeling a bit dejected. "Looks like today was a bust. I thought we'd uncover something bigger, but we only solved this one case."

Her eyes showed signs of weariness and frustration from the relentless work.

Henry replied, "Not really. At least we solved another case, right?"

He squinted slightly, lighting a cigarette and taking a deep drag.

He tried to comfort Sophia, hoping to lift her spirits.

Just then, Henry's attention was caught by a figure.

He saw the hotel event host sneaking into an alley, looking around nervously as if trying to avoid being seen.

Henry's eyes sharpened, his instincts telling him that this person was definitely up to something.

Sophia quickly picked up on what Henry was observing. Following his gaze, she recalled the series of incidents that had occurred.

Almost simultaneously, she reacted, whispering, "Let's follow him."

As a police, she wouldn't overlook any suspicious lead, no matter how insignificant it might seem.
