Chapter 93 Chapter 93 Dinner with Mother
I smooth out my white linen dress as I stand at his front door. Thin straps are tied in bows over each shoulder, the corset portion of the dress is made up of accordion elastic, the skirt is loose around my legs. I picked up this beauty in Mexico. What am I even doing here?
"Dinner? With my mom, she is as fun as your dad" his words replay in my head.
That sounds like no fun at all. At least I don't need to bite my tongue here. I feel the spot where I made myself bleed in my mouth, it's healing up already. I thought I tore off a piece but it's fine, in one piece still. I straightened my hair, black looks good on me, it's so shiny right now and my Spring Break tan looks good covered in white. I sway back and forth while I wait for him to answer the door. He is taking too long, I can turn around and just go home, I should just go home.
The door swings open, I almost gave up. Grant stands there dripping wet, his bottom half barely covered by a towel. He braces himself on the corner of the door while clutching the towel together. I get so flustered sitting there watching the water drip down his chest.
"Good evening ladies!" he looks around me.
I turn at the waist, there are three moms pushing strollers on their afternoon walk. They are frozen just staring at him.
"Fan club?"
Grant laughs. "Please come in, I am starting to feel objectified!"
"He looks even better without the towel!" I yell.
They all blush and scurry away quickly. Grant chuckles and moves away from the door letting me in. I walk in holding my fruit tart, I have a bottle of wine in my tote and cookies for my boyfriend. He tells me he will be right back, then he runs up the stairs. I go to the kitchen to set the tart and wine down. The kitchen smells amazing, whatever he has roasting in the oven is making my mouth water. Grant comes strolling in the kitchen wearing khakis and a white t-shirt, it's stretched over his chest the sleeves struggle against his arms. I suck a breath in and lean against the counter. A girl can get used to this view.
He closes the distance between us, his arms wrap around me, his lips on mine.
"Have you slept?" he asks between kisses.
"Nope, I am running on caffeine and sarcasm. Watch out!!!"
I left Taylor home, I don't need him here. I am fine here, with him, I feel like I can handle myself.
"Last night has been replaying in my head all day. I couldn't focus on work at all." he curses under his breath as his hand grabs my ass.
We get lost in lust until someone clears their throat behind me.
"I thought it was just going to be family, Grant!" her voice cuts like paper.
He turns me around, his mom is tall, her brown hair pinned up in a bun.
"Elle!!!" screams Ryan running toward me. I bend down and pick him up, he gives me his sloppy baby kisses all over the side of my face.
"Who's is Elle?" says another female voice coming around the corner.
She is tall with black hair and blue eyes, she shoots ice picks at me but she is holding someone's hand. A man walks in with her and he looks like an older Grant.
You can cut the tension in the room with a dull butter knife. We are in a standoff, I can feel Grant stiffen behind me, he is on edge.
"I am Elle. The girlfriend!" I offer a mischievous smile, their jaws hit the floor. "Ryan's girlfriend. Right buddy?"
He gleams in my arms. "Yes, Elle is my girlfriend, she makes the best pancakes and cookies!" his arms tighten around my neck.
"My mother, Anita. My brother Chad and my ex, his wife, Jennifer!" he names them off like they are tasks.
Holy fucking shit, his ex is married to his brother. The awkward exchange is coming into clear view.
Dinner was just as weird, no one talked, they just watched the two of us. Grant leans back in his chair, his arm resting over the back of my chair.
"I made a fruit tart, would anyone like some dessert?"
Everyone nods, even my little man.
"Ryan baby you don't like fruit." says Jennifer.
"Elle said I have to try everything at least once. I want to try it!" he stands up in his chair.
If looks could kill, I would be dead, she hates me. Grant laughs softly covering his mouth. I don't think she spends time with Ryan, he ate fruit months ago.
"I was as surprised as you. The first time....Elle was over, she made pancakes and Ryan was eating berries, when I came downstairs." says Grant proudly.
"He helped me cut them up!" I smile back at him.
To everyone's astonishment Ryan ate two pieces. He asked to play in the backyard, he has playground. We are all sitting on the outdoor couches with wine. Grant tried to refuse me a glass. I asked him which reason he was going to give everyone on why I am not drinking. Pregnant or underage??? He laughed so hard.
I swirl the deep dark red liquid in my glass and take a slow sip. Grant's hand has been slowly creeping up my side. His fingers are gazing my under boob. Chad has been watching his brother's hand move over me. Jennifer elbows him and glares with distaste while she talks to their mother. The conversation has been around me, the women are pretending I am not here. That's fine because I wish they were not here.
"Where did you meet my brother?" asks Chad.
"Last year, at Mason Jones' New Years Eve party!"
"You've been dating for a year and half?" he leans forward, Jennifer and Anita turn interrupting their conversation.
I grab Grant's thigh and realize too late his dick is right there. He shifts in his seat, all eyes rest on my hand placement.
"No, we started seeing each other sometime after I broke up with Mason. How long has it been, babe?" I turn and look at him, pink is caressing his cheekbones.
"A few months but who's counting?"
Chad pulls his phone out and he is scrolling and looking up at me. Jennifer looks over at his phone and frowns. He is zooming in. Grant starts to laugh uncontrollably, his hand moves and he squeezes me. I push it down back to my waist.
"Lucky fucker!" mumbles Chad.
"You don't know the half of it!" says Grant placing a kiss on my shoulder.
An exhausted Ryan climbs in my lap, his head resting on my chest. I rub his tiny back until he falls soundly asleep. I push his hair out of his face and hand my wine glass to Grant so I can hold Ryan better. He is such a little cutie pie.
Then Anita smiles at me for the first time.
