I knew I had found my true home, in the arms of those I loved

My heart beat wildly in my chest, each pulse echoing like a drum in my ears as I ran down that long, dark alley, followed by Bella through the darkness. Every step we took was a struggle against exhaustion that began to fill us, but fear propelled me forward even though my muscles were burning with all that damn effort.

"Run, Julie, run!" Bella screamed, her voice charged with urgency as she struggled to keep up the pace right behind me.

"Come on, Bella," I replied, my voice a breathy whisper, "We’re almost there." I looked back for a brief moment, seeing Bella a few steps back, determined not to be left behind.

Together, we had raided one of our father’s sheds in search of clues, hoping to uncover one of many truths and secrets he was trying to hide.

Bella had found some suspicious documents, and they were now stored in my bag, a souvenir of our dangerous adventure. But our search was interrupted by John’s bodyguards, men who were willing to do anything to protect that place and its secrets. We managed to take down some of them, so we could escape, but more of them were approaching, forcing us to run faster and faster, my lungs burning with effort. We knew we couldn’t handle them all alone, that we needed to find a way to escape before it was too late.

My mind spun with tumultuous thoughts as I ran, preoccupied with the fate of Jordan and our son. I knew I couldn’t count on him right now, he was too busy with his own mission to help us. As the sound of the security guards' footsteps echoed behind us, I forced myself to focus on the goal ahead. He would not allow anything to stop us, no matter how dangerous the path I had to take. The night was dark and full of perils looming, but I was so determined to face anything to protect those I loved, and also in pursuit of the justice I longed for, from the first time I believed I had lost everything. I took a deep breath and turned to a small entrance to the right. Every corner of the alley seemed like a promise of freedom, that we would leave unharmed, but also an imminent threat that everything could go wrong. Sweat ran down my forehead as I ran, my body begging for rest, but my mind refused to give up. I can’t give up, not now.

Bella, who was already beside me, cast a look back, her eyes wide with fear.

"They’re closing in, Julie!" I clenched my fists, my determination burning stronger than ever.

"We can’t give up now, Bella. We have to find a way out." We turned another corner and came across a narrow street, a little lit by rusty posts. Ahead, we glimpsed a staircase leading to an even narrower alley.

"This way!" I screamed, throwing myself towards the staircase with Bella on my tail.

The security guards were getting closer and closer, their voices echoing down the alley as they called for reinforcements via a radio communicator. I felt the panic threatening to consume me, but I refused to give in to despair. With each step we climbed, the air became more compressed, my legs protesting the effort. But we couldn’t stop now, not when we were this close to escaping. Finally, we reached the top of the staircase and found ourselves at a dead end. I looked around desperately, looking for an escape route. It was then that I saw a window open in the next building, a weak light coming out of it, it was like a light in the tunnel. I felt that it was a promise of hope. Without hesitation, I grabbed Bella’s hand and ran towards the window, my heart beating like a drum in my ears.

With one last desperate jump, we threw ourselves through the window and fell to the floor of the building, which was not so high, had fallen on top of bags of garbage panting and exhausted, but free. I looked at Bella, our eyes finding themselves in a silent bond of relief and gratitude. We had managed to escape the clutches of those men and were more determined than ever to discover the truth he was trying to hide. As adrenaline began to subside and exhaustion took over our bodies, I knew the challenge was far from over. But we were ready to face whatever the future held together, knowing that we could overcome whatever obstacles we encountered ahead. I looked at Bella, our eyes meeting in a mixed silence of mutual understanding. We both knew that the battle was far from over and that we would face many challenges before we could find the truth we sought.

"Are we safe now, Julie?" asked Bella, her voice a husky whisper after the frantic race.

"For now, Bella. But we need to get out of here ASAP." I told my sister, though my mind was still spinning with worries.

We got up from those cold bags by the building and rushed out the front door. The air that night was fresh on our faces as we moved away from the dark alley and into the busy city streets. Every step we took brought us a little closer to home, we preferred to walk around a certain perimeter and when we were far enough, we took a car by app and went to my boyfriend’s house, and that made my seizures only increase. I knew I would have to face Jordan and explain why I had slipped out of it, putting not only my life in danger, but Bella’s as well. Two blocks away, we went. My down and walked in silence through those deserted streets. My mind was filled with tumultuous thoughts. I feared yes, Jordan’s reaction, I knew he would be furious to find out what I had done. I loved him more than anything, but I also knew I had to follow my instinct and protect my family at all costs. However, this meant disobeying and disagreeing with certain things he said and risking our safety. The weight of guilt weighed on my shoulders as I got closer and closer to home. I knew I would have to face the consequences of my actions and only hoped that Jordan could understand my reasons.

Finally, we arrived at the condos in Calabasas, where Jordan had brought us to live, so we rescued Claire. The familiar sight of the bright lights of the streets filled me with a feeling of relief mixed with apprehension. I knew I would soon face Jordan and have to explain what had happened. When we got home, we were greeted by silence, which only increased my anxiety. I knew Jordan would be awake, waiting for us, and the thought of facing him left me heartbroken. We slowly climbed the small steps of the entrance, as if each step were a silent confession of our sins. I felt Bella’s gaze on me, full of concern and solidarity, and knew she was by my side, no matter what. When we finally reached the door of the mansion, I stopped for a moment, gathering courage before turning the knob and entering.

And there was Jordan, standing in the room, his expression a mixture of worry and anger when his eyes met mine. I could feel my stomach twitching with anticipation of the confrontation that would follow.

"Where were you, Julie?" he asked, his voice hard and cold.

"I... I went looking for clues, Jordan. I needed to figure some things out." I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of my actions weigh on me, but trying to hold on.

"Did you leave without telling me? Put yourself and Bella in danger?" he looked at me, his piercing gaze like a sharp knife.

I nodded, unable to find words to justify my actions. I knew there were no excuses for what I had done, but I hoped that Jordan could understand my motivation to do it. I continued to look at him, and he remained silent for a moment. His expression gradually faded away as his eyes met mine, and in them, I saw understanding making me feel a little relief.

"You could have told me, Julie. We could have done this together, you know you can always count on me, my love." I felt a weight being lifted off my shoulders as I listened to his words, knowing that he still loved me despite my failures. I knew we had a lot to talk about, but for now, I was just grateful to have him by my side.

I saw it from the corner of my eye as he walked away and up toward his room. With a sigh of relief, I approached Jordan and hugged him tightly, knowing that, together, we could face any challenge that life would hold, even if, for a few moments, I acted on an impulse. I knew I could count on him. And so, embracing that silent night, I knew I had found my true home, in the arms of those I loved.
