Chapter 47 I Am a Good Person
Chapter 47 I Am a Good Person
The thief never expected that he'd be caught right after getting his hands on the wallet.
Carol looked at her own wallet and snatched it back at once, then stuffed it into her pocket and clutched it tightly.
"Everyone be careful, there's a thief here."
Caught in the act, the thief panicked and tried to pull his hand free from Klein's grip, only to find that Klein's hold was incredibly strong - he couldn't break free at all.
Seeing more people looking their way, the thief grew more anxious. He yanked open his jacket, revealing a dagger at his waist.
"You better let go of my hand, or else I can't guarantee what'll happen next."
The thief's eyes were full of menace, his voice threatening.
However, Klein glanced dismissively at the dagger at the thief's waist and reached out to pull it from his belt.
"Come on, tell me what's going to happen next?"
Klein asked with a smile, while the thief's face froze instantly.
Usually when he got caught, he only needed to flash his dagger and people would know he wasn't someone to mess with, then they'd keep quiet.
The thief never anticipated that someone would actually take his dagger right in front of him.
"If you don't let go, what will you do? Like this?"
Klein held the dagger against the thief's neck, still wearing that irritating smile.
The thief's throat bobbed as he clearly felt the cold sensation against the side of his neck.
"Actually, I was just joking. I saw this lady's bag zipper was open and wanted to alert her this way."
The thief put on a fawning smile, but his words only made Carol frown more deeply.
"You're even more shameless than him. How can you say such things? You clearly stole my wallet." Carol glared angrily at the thief, pointing at his dagger.
"And you were planning to threaten us with this dagger."
"No, no, no, miss, you might have misunderstood. This dagger is for trimming my nails. The law doesn't say I can't use it to trim my nails, right?"
The thief spread his hands, his smile growing more smug.
"He's right, maybe he really is here to trim his nails."
Klein suddenly put the dagger back in the thief's waistband.
"Thanks for the reminder. We'll be more careful with our wallets from now on."
Klein smiled and patted the thief's shoulder. This move left both the thief and Carol completely stunned.
"Are you crazy? You actually believed him!"
This time Carol finally stopped frowning, but her eyes were wide, as if she was meeting Klein for the first time. This capable but shameless guy shouldn't be this stupid.
"Why not believe him? We don't have any proof anyway."
Klein shrugged and pulled Carol's hand, walking to the side.
The thief hadn't expected to get out of this so easily either. He stood there stunned for a long time before coming to his senses and found a seat. Some onlookers around them cast scornful looks at Klein.
"Look at how they're looking at you. Everyone knows this was a theft, but you believed him. With your abilities, you shouldn't be afraid of that dagger."
Carol questioned him angrily in a low voice.
"If I cared about how others look at me, I wouldn't have survived this long. They're just looks anyway, not knives or bullets."
Klein rubbed his nose, still wearing that irritating smile, completely ignoring others' stares.
Carol glared at Klein irritably. Her wallet wasn't lost anyway, so she decided not to bother with this jerk anymore.
But what Carol and the others didn't notice was that the previously noisy train car had now gone quiet.
The subway continued along the tracks. Because of the earlier scene, people became more alert. Passengers clutched their pockets tightly, keeping a wary eye on the thief so they wouldn't lose anything valuable.
The thief was pretty frustrated too. Although he hadn't been beaten up by Klein or turned over to the police, he'd completely lost his chance to steal.
Until the subway reached a certain station, Klein looked at the familiar station name and suddenly spoke.
"Can you come with me somewhere?"
Carol glanced and saw they were still several stops away from their destination. She didn't want to go at first, but when she looked up, she was momentarily stunned.
Klein always had that irritating expression with that playful look in his eyes. But this time, as he looked at the station, there was nostalgia in his eyes, along with a hint of sadness.
What's wrong with this guy? Did something happen at this station?
Carol's curiosity was piqued. She didn't refuse Klein, but nodded instead.
"Let's go then."
Klein grabbed Carol's wrist, and Carol didn't refuse. But she didn't notice that as they walked out of the subway station, several people followed behind them, staring at them with ill intent.
Outside the subway station was a somewhat run-down neighborhood. Cigarette butts and trash were everywhere on the ground. You could even see drunk people vomiting and homeless people covered with newspapers.
The street was filled with a strange smell, like the stench of sewage backing up from the drains.
Carol was starting to regret this. She'd never been to such a dirty and messy place before, and couldn't help covering her nose.
"Let me see, it should be this direction. Haven't been back in so many years, hope I didn't remember wrong."
Klein got his bearings and headed toward an alley.
Carol looked at the somewhat dark alley ahead. Generally, dark alleys like this were a staple of crime shows, where terrible things always happened, especially to women.
But Carol glanced at Klein's back and still followed. If Klein wanted to hurt her, he wouldn't need to choose this kind of alley.
The two walked through the alley one after the other for about eight minutes. Klein scratched his head, looked at the unfamiliar building at the alley entrance, and sighed.
"Looks like I went the wrong way."
"What are you looking for?"
Carol looked at the building in front of them and asked curiously.
Klein didn't answer Carol's question. Instead, he turned toward the depths of the alley and said, "You've been following us all this way. I don't think you're looking for my autograph."
Carol's heart jumped, and she immediately turned around. Footsteps came from deep in the alley, and several people slowly emerged.
Seeing their faces, Carol cried out in alarm.
"It's you? You're all in this together?"
