Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Michelle, who was standing behind and hearing Anna’s words, turned and came to stand in front of her, feeling even more upset.
“Wow,” she said. “What are you trying to do, Anna? You’re already married to Sam’s uncle, but he’s not enough?
“Why are you talking to my husband? Are you trying to seduce him? Is this what you want to do?”
“What is going on here?” At this point, Henry, who had just arrived with the company of two of his bodyguards, stood beside Anna and asked, “Are you okay?” Anna shook her head, looking aggrieved.
“Oh, don’t even pretend,” Sam said to Anna. Turning to Henry, he said, “Uncle, she has been deceiving you. She has been lying to you. You were her target from the very beginning. She wanted to be your wife all along, so she pretended to date me.
She pretended that she wanted to marry me just to get in your bed. Uncle, don’t trust her. She’s a gold digger. She’ll do anything for money.”
Henry scoffed. “Really?”
He turned to stare at Anna, who nodded. “It’s true. I plotted everything, including plotting with him, my ex-fiancé—to end up marrying my cousin. Yes, I must have plotted everything.”
Henry shook his head. “Wow, you insulted my wife—the would-be mother of my child—in my presence.”
Both Michelle and Sam widened their eyes in surprise. “Would-be mother?”
Henry turned to two of his bodyguards and said, “Go ahead, give them five slaps each so they would learn to respect my wife the next time they see her.”
“Oh no, no, no, don’t touch me. My makeup…”
While Michelle was still speaking, the bodyguard held her and began to slap her on both sides of her cheeks until they were both swollen. Even Sam was not spared. Their cheeks were stinging and red by the time the guards let go of them.
Henry said, “This is the last time I’ll warn you. If you ever make trouble for my wife again, I will not spare you.”
With this, he held Anna’s hand and took her away from them.
They went to a quiet place where it was just the both of them, and Anna saw that he was angry. She gently tapped his back and said, “Don’t be so upset. They couldn’t really harm me, to be very honest. I’m not that weak.”
Henry turned to stare at her and said, “I know that. But still, I got so angry.”
She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him, her arms going around his neck as she said, “Actually, there’s something I’ve not told you. A part of what Sam said was the truth.”
“What part?” he asked. “Because I vividly remember everything that happened that night and… Oh, I was not even supposed to be at that hotel, so there was no way you could have planned that.”
She said, “Oh no, no, no, not that. The thing is that I’ve always had a crush on you right from high school. You came once to my school, and you came for a meeting. I don’t know what it was about, but I caught a glimpse of you, and ever since then, I dreamt of you.
At night, I would see your face, and I would dream of being your wife and stuff like that. You know, I never thought it would ever be possible. I had your pictures locked away in my phone.
I had a private folder filled with your face. I always told myself that after my marriage to Sam, I would delete everything and focus on him. I never loved Sam.
I just went ahead because, well, my family were impressed with his background, I thought he was kind and considerate, and he said he wanted to marry me. I didn’t think there was a possibility of me ever being with you.”
As she spoke, Henry went back to the night they had spent together—when she had woken up in the morning, her reaction was quite different from what he expected.
And he said, “Wow, now I get it. For a while, I was baffled. I used to wonder—if you loved Sam so much, why were you not hurt? Why did you move on from him so easily? It turned out that I was always the one.”
“Yes, you were always the one,” she replied. “I love you, Henry. I have loved you even before I knew what the meaning of love is.
And I know that even until my dying breath, I will still love you.” She placed her hand on her tummy and said, “I feel extremely privileged that I’m going to birth your child. I can’t ask for anything more.”
Henry smiled and pulled her closer, his arms going around her waist as he said, “Then I guess I am the luckiest man in the world.”
“I love you too,” he replied and kissed her.
